Firstoff I think we NEED a Hillary thread!:lmao:

Last week Obama called Hillary Clinton Divisive. However, IMO again he just says things, and offers no reasoning or facts to back them up. Anyhow, since Obama made this statement, here on the Disboards...I have seen many post since then stating that Hillary is 'Divisive.'

"DENVER (AP) - Democratic White House candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday said rival Hillary Rodham Clinton is too polarizing to win the presidency and she has taken positions shared by President Bush and Republican candidate John McCain for political expediency.
Obama depicted Clinton as a calculating, poll-tested divisive figure who will only inspire greater partisan divisions as she sides with Republicans on issues like trade, the role of lobbyists in politics and national security. At the same time, he elevated McCain, fresh off victory in Florida's crucial primary, as the likely Republican nominee. "

I dont think she is divisive at all. Can someone fill me in as to why they say Hillary is divisive.

Here is what Divisive means
Adj. 1. divisive - dissenting (especially dissenting with the majority opinion)

Who is she divise too? Americans, Obama, Congress, Bush???????

di·vi·sive /dɪˈvaɪsɪv/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[di-vahy-siv] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective

1. forming or expressing division or distribution.
2. creating dissension or *******.

Hillary is divisive because she creates dissension & *******. People do not like her because of her personality, her views and her past. Take your pick.

New Yorkers, Californians, New Jersayans, Arizonans, Massachusettans,
Floridians, Michiganers, New Hampershirites, Nevadans - and others don't think so!!!

Can I pick all three?

Right-wing talk show folks hate her for reasons that can't really be explained. But, somehow, that Hilary's fault. I don't get it.

Don't go blaming Hilary for other folks irrational hatred of her.

If you take the poll numbers seriously, and I'm not sure I do-her unfavorable numbers are higher than McCain or Obama. I just saw them again on Russert yesterday. I'm guessing that's where he's getting the divisive thing.

I think it's because she has a lot of baggage, and as a result makes an easy target. She would definitely have an uphill battle to prove herself to her critics, and even then some will never give up old grudges.

Just because you say it, dont make it so.
Give examples please.

Thank you.

It's explained all the time. It isn't irrational. It's just that some people (usually on the left) can't accept the reasons as rational.

Some people don't have to like the "person" but will vote for the positions they have. I don't like her personally (she's smug, arrogant, elitist) and really don't like her policies on just about everything. Is that rational enough for me do dislike her?

One could argue that she was proving herself - had the lead in the primaries - until Obama and others kept calling her divisive. Then people start believing it must be true!

All I can say is - the same thing happened to her in NY when she first ran for Senate - she got in and actually got things done - working across the aisle!

I think in this case - the perception does not match the reality. But its very hard to change perceptions!

Ask Obama!

Thats fine you believe all that, for what ever reason. That is your opinion about her personaity. BUT would you call her Divisive?

How does she cause dissention? And who is this dissention aimed at?:confused3

I must have missed those explanations. At best I've seen people point out annoying personality traits - but nothing that rationally explains the hatred and vitriol some have toward her.

Rational enough to dislike? Sure. Rational enough to hate, no.

There are tons of folks out there who are smug, arrogant and elitists - and tons of folks whose policies people don't like. For other folks, the person is just disliked. With Hilary, she is hated and blamed for divisiveness.

I think Obama is every bit as "divisive" as he alleges Hilary to be. Obama's campaign seems to be a repeat of the 2000 Bush campaign. "I'm a uniter, not a divider."

It wouldn't surprise me to find a Karl Rove clone in charge.

Some of us Michiganders think she is very Divisive! She won Michigan barely against an box marked uncommitted. Many people didnt even bother to vote since she was the only large candidate. Obama and Edwards weren't on the ballet! I would love to see who REALLY won Michigan in a fair election.

I think she can be divisive for some women. I have no respect for her. I would love to see a women president, but not her. I hate how it appears she sends Bill out to do her dirty work, or to whine on her behalf that people are being mean to her. And I think its partly due to how she handled Bill and Monica. She (in my mind) rolled over and blamed everyone on the republican side. Then they seem to continue like he never did anything wrong. If my Dh did that and IF I took him back, he would be walking funny for years from my shoe! (It seems like his indiscretions were never addressed by her.) I want a better role model for my DD than her.

I've given this a lot of thought, even starting my own thread a few weeks back trying to figure out why I hate her so much.
My background, female mid-40's, white, upper income, liberal, independent...
I can't put a finger on why I hate Hillary, I don't hate powerful women in general at all.
But I think the most IMPORTANT question should be:

"If it's just an intuitive hate for Hillary, shouldn't we be taking a much harder look at it?"

I've always listened to my gut and I'm seeing so many others that can't pin down why they feel so strongly against her. I've got to side with my intuition on this one. I'm not going to get on an elevator, alone with a guy that gives me the heebie-jeebies, why should I elect someone president that gives me the same feeling?

:thumbsup2 I am with you on that one!

Isnt he really being divisive by creating ******* in the primaries, saying she sides with Republicans on issues...etc.
Isnt working with the other party senators actually a good thing (regardless of the issue), to me, thats the opposite of divisive.
