Why is Breakfast so Horrible

I too feel that the breakfasts can improve. I found the waffles to be too crispy and the pancakes were too rubbery and tough as well. It didn't stop me from eating them every morning, but they weren't as enjoyable as I would like. Breakfast improved when one morning I asked the omelette station for eggs over easy and they said no problem.

It probably depends on when you get down for breakfast. we usually are the first ones through the door for the buffet so it isn't sitting out there for hours.

I like to get up and watch the sunrise so I usually find myself having to find something to do until the buffet opens.

We love Lunches and Dinners but breakfast is just horrible, waffles and Pancakes are like cardboard, sausage is yuk, limit myself to the omelet station, hard to believe, as we have sailed RCCL, Princess and Holland America and the Breakfast's are great.

Hopefully things will be better on the new ships.

I liked the breakfast. The bacon and french toast were good:) The rest of the food was ok. I wasn't super impressed with anything including lunch and dinnner. A few of the deserts were amazing. I didn't think anything was horrible though. The room service menu was better than a lot of the other options for me.

I agree with OP. I have actually found the breakfast buffet to be the same on most cruiselines. The rubbery pancakes, lukewarm eggs, hard as a rock waffles etc. I always say that I'm going to have breakfast in the dining room and then never do. The best breakfast buffet prize for me goes to Celebrity. However my kids love DCL, anything shaped like a mouse is the best, and that includes the waffles. :lmao:

I think it used tio be a LOT better when they brought your omlette to you, now its the same as everything else you get from the buffet, warmish if your lucky cold if your not.

I didn't find the breakfasts that great either (and we ate in the dining room - I try to stay away from buffets).

My preference was a room service breakfast (fruit, pastries, cereal one day, coffee, juice) and save my real eating for the rest of the day when the food was really good.

The only exception was key west day for brunch - but that's cause I didn't order "breakfast foods".

Breakfasts are okay to me. One thing I can't stand is the floppy bacon. I like my bacon cooked longer. I usually hold up the line digging for bacon that isn't floppy. I haven't tried a sit down for breakfast.....I think I will do that this time.

I'm always amazed how good the breakfasts are....... given that they are making about 2,000 servings.
Sorry, flashing back to college dining hall breakfasts........and have relived that with my kids in college.
Watched the dining hall chef walk out with box that says "Liquid Eggs", pull a sealed plastic bag out, slice it open over the hot grill, 30 seconds later, they're scrambled eggs.:scared1:

Do the breakfast buffets have those single serve boxes of cereal? I think that's probably going to be my kids' main preference and I'd love to be able to grab some extra to use for snacks later on too, especially since DS has a food allergy and it will be dicey finding safe stuff for him in port...

You can order them from room service. They'll bring you as many boxes as you want.

They also have cereal boxes at the buffets. They are not in the main serving line, but are where the desserts are located at lunch. I can't remember which brands they have. Perhaps someone else can share.

The dining room breakfasts are VERY good. If I want a bowl of muslei (sp) or cottage cheese with toppings, I'll go to Topsiders. Yes, they have individual serving boxes there too. If I want something cooked, I'll go to the sit down dining room and have a really good breakfast.

Yup, sadly enough (because I want to love everything Disney) breakfast is not great. Our family likes a regular American breakfast eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, waffles, pancakes -- but they are not good in our experience on DCL. I am sure it has something to do with the volume or maybe even what the chef considers cooked correctly. The scrambled eggs are watery and runny. The pancakes and waffles are cold and hard. And you can't get crisp toast that's warm. Even when we have eaten in the dining room for breakfast -- I ordered waffles and they were not the Belgian waffles I was really hoping for --they were thin and bland -- and still cold. My daughter loves sausage but I find it interesting that the kind that they serve is not what we find in our restaurants at home in Rochester, NY at all -- skinny links well done. Instead they serve kinda fat, chubby links that are spiced differently. Funny, but we love the Mickey waffles served counter service at Port Orleans. Must not be made the same way.

Anyway, we just eat some fruit and a muffin and then we are off to play. I'd like to invite some of the chefs to my home town for a diner breakfast -- now we're talking!

We actually liked the buffet breakfast-granted, we got our eggs from the made-to-order station. And we kept the rest pretty simple-yogurt, cereal, sweet rolls, donuts, etc. The small boxes of cereal were over where you get the yogurt, granola, milk boxes, etc. My kids love to snack on cereal so we would get extra and take it back to the room. It was also a great snack to take on excursions. They had corn flakes, frosted flakes, fruit loops, raisin bran, and I think maybe rice krispies. You can also order cereal from room service and get it at the quick service counters like Goofy's Galley.

Oh-I love breakfast at Mimi's-nothing compares!

I will grant you that a Mimi's breakfast puts the ships to shame!

TOTALLY! If DCL could replicate the buttermilk spice muffin and do a decent cream-cheese and fruit stuffed french toast, I'd pay Palo prices for that!

If anyone wants to make me happy, they know just to drop by Mimi's and grab me some muffins and I'm good to go.:woohoo:

Are there egg-omelet stations on each ship? Everyday do they have this?
Egg beater or whites? Anyone know what sort of add ins? peppers, onions, ham, mushrooms, etc?

I need to avoid carbs in the am. they just make me feel cruddy, so I usually eat a protein rich breakfast, but am generally picky...I also like crispy bacon, can I ask for it cooked more?

Thank you!!
