Why is Breakfast so Horrible

We love Lunches and Dinners but breakfast is just horrible, waffles and Pancakes are like cardboard, sausage is yuk, limit myself to the omelet station, hard to believe, as we have sailed RCCL, Princess and Holland America and the Breakfast's are great.

Hopefully things will be better on the new ships.

That is your opinion. My opinion is though I do not like the waffles, I think everything else is fine. I enjoy the variety of the breakfast buffet but do realize it is not fine dining.

If you want a different breakfast experience try breakfast in one of the dining rooms. They have different offerings than on the buffet and it is cooked to order.

Are you referring to the breakfasts available in Topsider's? I found the breakfasts in Lumiere's on the Magic are quite good. DH and I sampled a lot from their breakfast menu recently.

We like to go to Lumiere's for a fresh cooked breakfast. Love the eggs benedict!

Everyone is different, breakfast is the best meal love all the fruit, cream of wheat is a must (do not have time at home to make it normally) and the girls love the donuts.

the dining room bfast is great. You should try it next time.
I agree that the pancakes and waffles on BB or TS are yucky. I love me some of those but I purposedly avoid them on our cruises.

Never had any problem with breakfast except for those Krispy Kreme donuts (Sorry but cold and several days old is just not the same!)

I guess it is kind of like going to a cafeteria and expecting a five star meal. Not gonna happen.

If you want a nicer meal, try one of the dining rooms instead of the self-serve-fast-serve locations.

I too have to disagree with the OP. We enjoy breakfast on the ship whether it's at Topsiders or Lumiere's. I actually prefer Topsiders though, because to me a day on the ship is not complete without a bowl of DCL's Muesli!

I agree that some items are not the best (i.e. Biscuits and Gravy), but taken overall, it's pretty good IMO.

I usually have breakfast twice...once at the buffet very early while my wife and kids sleep, then again a little while later in the dining room with them.

I like them both.

On the buffet I usually enjoy a plate of meats and cheeses....bacon, sausage, cold cuts, sliced cheese, etc. I throw a couple pieces of fruit on there just for kicks. Maybe a bagel. I have never tried the waffles and panckes.

The dining room breakfast, especially the eggs benedict, I find to be very good. The eggs benedict were far superior to those I was served in Palo (blasphemy to some, but true nonetheless)

Some things on the buffet do not appeal to me, but the selections I have made have never been gross...

I have to agree with PPs about breakfast. I actually enjoy it, but usually stick to either the eggs benedict (once only because it is so rich) and either Muesli or oatmeal. The rest I can take it or leave it, though. I don't usually eat breakfast at home, so this can be a real treat. I do have to agree that the breakfast served in the dining room is far superior to that served at the buffet.

With regards to the pancakes and waffles, I have to agree. I wasn't all that impressed, especially with the character "Island Jam" breakfast offerings.

I have to agree with the OP. Eating breakfast out is usually my favorite since I never have the time to prepare so many different things. I was suprised that the breakfast just wasn't during it for me on our last trip. We did do a sit down breakfast one morning in the dining room and it was great, but it took us an hour and with our DS (2) it just wasn't feasible for us to do it again.

This is one of the few areas onboard where I would vote that they could do better.

To each is own when it comes to food. It is hard to please everyone all at the same time. I enjoyed both breakfast at bbb and tritons. I usually stick to the omlets and have not been dissapointed.

I love breakfast on board. I usually grab some smoked salmon, spread some cream cheese on each slice, sprinkle with capers, and roll it up for a really yummy breakfast. Sometimes I even have the muesli with cream.

I don't normally eat waffles, pancakes or sausage, so I'm not able to do a comparison test as to how cardboard-like they may be (course, I also don't normally eat cardboard, so it would be an extremely difficult comparison at best!).

Half a bagel, cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, onions - heaven

slices of meat, cheese, rolls, Muesli, yogurt, butter - I can pretend I woke up in Germany. I wonder if they could supply soft boiled eggs and an egg cup.

There is always something wonderful on the buffet for me.

I think food is probably one of the most personal and subjective things, especially on a cruise ship. I have (not on a cruise ship) sat at tables across from others where we both had the same dish and one loved it while the other hated it. Some even to the point of ordering something else while I was shoveling it in with great pleasure.

So with all due respect to the OP, we found our experience to be somewhat opposite. We loved the breakfasts on DCL. We loved everything we ate on DCL. We found the food on the RCCL Freedom, while not bad, was not as good at DCL's food, with one exception. In the mall area they had a pizza place. I will say that is some of the best pizza I have ever eaten, and it's free!!! (I do not remember there being a charge for it). It is one of the things I am looking forward to when we sail the Freedom this summer. That and Johnny Rockets. :thumbsup2

The food on DCL is one of the things I have always thought could use improvment and over the years it has gotten better. I agree with the OP, the waffles and pancakes are not good -- more brick-like than light and fluffy. My personal pet peeve is the really runny scrambled eggs. I don't want to have to do the sit down breakfast or special order from the omelet station (they cook eggs runny too even when specially ordered to have a well cooked plain omelet) just to get cooked eggs.

That being said, I've always found that there are enough choices for breakfast that it is an enjoyable meal. If the eggs are too runny one morning, I'll opt for something else. For me the fresh cut fruit more than makes up for anything else I may have to skip.

I just got off the Freedom and enjoyed every meal I ate on the ship. The breakfast in the dining rooms and the windjammer were all good. Of course they were all free as well as the pizza in Sorrentos. The beakfasts aboard the DCL were pretty good. I am a eggs and bacon fan, not pancakes and toast which I have never found to be really great on any ship.

I hate to say but I think the pizza at Sorrento's is really bland, my Tombstones at home are much better, but the puddings they have were really great. I ate one piece of pizza the whole trip. Johnny Rockets has great hamburgers, onion rings and french fries. The burgers were great. I don't normally eat in the pay restaurants on the ship, so Johnny Rockets was an exception for me.

well I haven't been to a johnny rockets on a cruise ship, but I do love Johnny Rockets when I get to go to them on land.

now as for breakfasts I enjoy them, I'm not picky about food, only thing I usually don't eat are eggs, but give me same ham, sausage, and bacon, and some fruit and my breakfasts have been great:lmao:

Since my breakfasts tend to be simple - yogurt with fruit, maybe a slice of toast or half a bagel - the buffet was great for me. I actually did enjoy the regular Mickey waffles, as well, but we found the chocolate ones to taste sort of like cardboard (not a bad thing, since it kept my girls from eating too many!). DH enjoyed the english muffin sandwiches and oatmeal and my kids never had any trouble finding something they liked, either.

I guess if you want/enjoy fancier breakfasts then the buffet is lacking. But none of us eat much or want a heavy meal. We're more interested in lunch and dinner. :-)
