Why is Breakfast so Horrible

I agree, I dont rate it, you stand in line, the foods warm ish if your lucky, then you get drinks ,then you have to find someone to ask for a bit of butter for toast.

This is why I have a proper sit down, waiters to serve me bfast, I only do buffet if Im in a real hurrry.

The buffet breakfasts on Princess were Very good! If I were to choose a cruiseline based just on food, it would be Princess. I didn't feel as though I was having as fun of a time though. I prefer the entertainment and vibe on Disney.

As someone else said, food like/dislike is purely subjective. My DW and her sister and Mom took a two-week sailing on Princess and their one major complaint was the food. :confused3

you have a good point! I'm a vegetarian as well, so that affects my opinion. My Princess cruise is the only one I gained weight on, I will say that

I took an Alaskan cruise in Aug on Holland America and we didn't find the breakfast any different than DCL. I guess different strokes for different folks.

I actually really enjoy breakfast onboard. Palo brunch is my favorite place. We also enjoy sitdown at Triton's/Lumier's as well. I also enjoy BBB and TS onboard. I have never had a problem with the buffet breakfast-enjoy the eggs, and omelet station. I even just enjoy fruit out on deck 9 aft.

I loved, loved, love that breakfast I got in Triton's! I think it was covered with cinnamon and sugar, but oh so yummy!

While slightly off topic, but still about breakfast buffet,
We were two adults, no children, and the breakfast buffet on our first morning was the only time on our four night cruise that we felt overwhelmed by screaming loud kids. (I know DCL is a family cruise ship so there is nothing to complain about, we just didn't go back.

The cooked to order omelet was good, and the buffet line food wasn't bad. (But I most likely would not have taken either pancakes or waffles)

Skipping the breakfast buffet was easy to do as Castaway day we had our REAS hot room service breakfast, and Day at Sea we had Palo brunch. The last morning, we skipped breakfast because we were getting a bridge tour during that time and had a McBreakfast off the ship.

Upcoming DLC cruise #2, the cruise to nowhere, we have Palo bunch booked, so we'll have to wait until 2012 and our 7 night Mexican riviera cruise to try the buffet again.

I also agree with the OP. I'm really not a fan of the breakfasts on the ships (and we usually eat at Lumiere's/Triton's) and it always seems blah. I usually get waffles or pancakes. They're always either cold or soggy. Buffet isn't much better.

I've started just eating the cinnamon rolls and not even trying to eat a real breakfast since it's always such a bust :(

I just got off the Freedom and enjoyed every meal I ate on the ship. The breakfast in the dining rooms and the windjammer were all good. Of course they were all free as well as the pizza in Sorrentos. The beakfasts aboard the DCL were pretty good. I am a eggs and bacon fan, not pancakes and toast which I have never found to be really great on any ship.

I hate to say but I think the pizza at Sorrento's is really bland, my Tombstones at home are much better, but the puddings they have were really great. I ate one piece of pizza the whole trip. Johnny Rockets has great hamburgers, onion rings and french fries. The burgers were great. I don't normally eat in the pay restaurants on the ship, so Johnny Rockets was an exception for me.

Funny, I thought we were talking about DCL.

I have to agree that the breakfast in Topsiders/BBB isn't too great. But then again, your typical breakfast buffet anywhere isn't 5-star dining. I use Topsiders for my quick breakfast fix on a port day; I love watching us dock from the outside decks. I'll stick to bagels, mostly. Sometimes there is something on the buffet that will appeal to me more, sometimes there isn't. I don't really hold it against DCL. I do have to say that I love breakfast in Lumiere's, and we eat there on sea days.

I agree that some items are not the best (i.e. Biscuits and Gravy), but taken overall, it's pretty good IMO.

I agree! While the chef's can make some of the best deserts and some killer main dishes - they need a good southern cook to come and show them how to make biscuits and gravy!

Maybe Paula Dean would go and teach them sometime! Or just order the pilsbury frozen bisuits - not as good as homemade but better than the things they serve on the ship!

Biscuits and sweet tea are the two things I miss while cruising.

The best omelet of my life was at Parrot Cay. It was so good I went over to the chef and told her and made her day lol! On the other had I have had the most horrible rock hard biscuits on a buffet and nasty bacon on a sandwich from room service. There was also some really bad sushi on a little table in the artium.
Other than that we loved all the food for the most part. I am a little weary of buffets after I saw the ABC story about how nasty buffets on cruise ships are in general. I know how good DCL is about handing out wipes though.

I don't know. When I think about being out on deck in the middle of the ocean smelling the salt air I don't think I could enjoy my breakfast any more.
Wish I were at Topsiders right now

I guess I have incredibly low standards because I LOVE the mickey waffles. When we stay concierge I'm having them deliver them to my door every morning :cool1:

Actually, I can honestly say that the mickey waffles are my favorite food on the ship!

We really liked the buffet but also had an excellent meal a la carte at Tritons last time.

I've never had a problem with the food selection at the breakfast buffet. Probably one of the reasons I get home from a DCL cruise several pounds heavier :rotfl2:

Considering I usually eat a muffin or cereal at my desk at work, I'll take any breakfast on a Disney cruise any time!

We did enjoy our one sit-down breakfast, but it takes so long and you don't get to be outside, smelling the lovely sea air, which is my favorite part of the cruise. I'm thinking for our trip next August maybe DH and I will try to get an early Palo brunch, and send my two girls (old enough to do this on their own) to the sit-down breakfast (they really like eggs benedict...)

I always thought the pancakes were a little like frisbees-rubbery and cold. The made to order stuff at Tritons was very good but the waffles and pancakes at the buffet and parrot cay weren't very good at all. I like my food hot.
