Why have these Boards turned nasty?

First of all, I don't know where to post this. I will also post it in the Community Forum. But, it seems to me that a lot of these posts have turned really nasty. People criticizing others, flaming and arguing about really insignificant ideas. While everyone is entitled to an opinion, why can't those opinions be based in civility? Disney is about magic; it's about fun; it's about leaving all the bad in the world behind you for a few days and experiencing the joy of life.

That's why it amazes me when someone posts something and right away someone gets on their case for a minor point they didn't like. Why do people take these posts so personally? Like the OP who "borrowed" someone's pix without giving him credit; or the OP who couldn't understand the CM because English was probably not their first langauge.

I think we have all been in some situations with Disney that were less than favorable, and I don't give anyone wrong for expressing their disappointment. But, when it gets personal it spoils it for everyone else.

The purpose of these boards is to share one's thoughts and solicit one's opinions. I don't think that means "flame me if you don't like what I had to say". I come to these Boards for the magic....not the reality. If I wanted reality, I would read the boss's "Memorandum to All Employees". Now those are something I could definitely flame!

Anyway, guys, this is a happy place....please don't change it!

I, for one enjoy the threads that offers tons of differing opinions because it has usually has some healthy debates that open up my mind to different things. When people get nasty, that's one thing. But I don't understand when people say things like "I want to feel the magic when I come here." or "I use this to escape other things" or "Stop the debates!". No offense, but come on...develop a tougher skin and if you don't like a thread, no one is forcing you to read it.

If you don't want to read about the war in Iraq or politics, or someone's complaint about a rude parent, skip it and read the threads that interest you. That's the beauty of this place..it has something for everyone.

Debate is one thing...having been on the debate team I know a thing or two about it. But personal attacks are something else. I'm not going to attack what you said personally because I don't want this thread closed. However, I don't think it serves any purpose whatsover to hurt someone's feelings...especially on these boards! And your analogy about Iraq or politics or the ERA or the NRA or the IRA have no place here. I will stop here! And, by the way, have a great day

There was a troll here on the DIS today that started several nasty posts. The best thing you can do is report things like that to a mod. If other topics bother you it is best to skip them.

I prefer to think of all the great posts and support you see here on the DIS. When someone needs help so many people usually post their good wishes.

I agree with you about the personal attacks and when people get nasty, like I said. There's no need or room for that here. Didn't mean to offend you, that wasn't my point. I just get a little tired of when others come here and complain about all the debating, etc. Sorry if I offended you, as it wasn't my intention.

If you don't like the tone of a thread, move on to another one.

It's as easy as that.

It's best to pick and choose your battles. All the threads on the CD are not nasty. Most people here are very friendly. You can tell by reading the first couple of posts what direction a thread is headed. If it's not my cup of tea I move on.

Satetymom....I agree with you totally. I have just seen too many newbies who have posted and gotten spammed. There are many people on these Boards who have the feeling that they are "superior" to any poster because they have been here for some time.

And to "Crusin"...yes I could move on if I don't like the tone of a thread, but how about the OP? Has he/she a right to a legitimate answer without getting flamed? Wouldn't that set a precedent for him/her posting again. I know if I got flamed on one of my first posts, I certainly would be hesitant to post again. And, if I had been posting for some time and someone got personal, I would be hard pressed not to reciprocate. I don't like the war in Iraq, but do I bypass the news about it....no!!! The news is presented objectively....It doesn't attack my stance personally. I object to those postings that attack the poster personally.

And to "NewJersey"...please know that I am not complaining about the debating...that's what makes these Boards so incredibly useful. It's the personal affronts that I find offensive and uncalled for. Debates are a great way to hear both sides of the story. That's why I have decided against making an ADR for LeCellier. I would never have considered that without reading all the pros and cons on this Board. As I've said before, when it gets personal, it spoils it for everyone else.

It's so weird... I must not be reading the right posts because I keep seeing posts like this and never notice any of the nastiness?!? I guess it's because i've belonged to some REALLY NASTY boards in the past with some really NASTY people so the people on here are all sweet as spice to me!
