Why have these Boards turned nasty?

Okay, but what if there are people who do come here for the reality? Are their wishes for this board at least as valid as yours?

It is all well and good to say "everyone should be nice to everyone else, all the time." But this is a community (albeit online), and like a real-life community has its share of people that are not nice or unlikable, or just plain weird. And as in real life, we just must find a way to carry on despite them, and minimize their impact on our life.

You have the power to choose what you read. There is a preview feature that allows you to see the first paragraph of any thread, without even having to open it. This is a wonderful feature.

I express my feelings toward certain topics or threads by ignoring them. After a few days, they are gone and forgotten.

I'm clueless as well I read quite a few posts on this board each day and I don't see any horrible nasty ones.

One thing I've noticed when reading some threads is that one person might say something that is a little rude, then everyone gangs up on that person, saying really mean things about them for being rude. Don't they realize that they are being rude to that person for being rude? They have stooped to the same level! They feel justified because that person was rude first. A little hypocritical, if you ask me!

You are 100% right...I just feel bad for those newbie posters who get slammed with their first post. Everyone deserves to be heard and not put down because "this has been posted before...do a search" or "I am offended by your comment" or....etc., etc., etc. I have heard from a number of people how intimidating these Boards have become (not all, but some). Like I said, if I were a newbie wanting an answer to something, having read some of the posts, I would be afradi to post my question.

These boards are for everyone and I think that anyone who posts should be made to feel welcome. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I think these Boards should not be controversial. I think negative responses (those that flame the poster) should not be allowed. If you have something negative to say, don't point it at the poster...point it at the topic. That's what these boards are for. Only my opinion.

I have noticed the nastiness but the CB goes thru these changes every now and then. I've seen MUCH worse in the past and I used to moderate this God forsaken board! Man, you should've seen the PMs I GOT!

This place is just like RL, there is always the a--h--e who has to prove themselves. There are people with opposing opinions and nasty ways of saying it but they are usually the minority. Unfortunately, they are usually the people you REMEMBER.

I visit here now and then now, usually only on the TH thread because I found another board I like so much better. Not the perpetual PMS and the slapping of the backs of those who honestly do not deserve notoriety... but get it anyhow. Sometimes you just can't stand the stupidity, then you realize no one's keeping you here!

I'm so glad we have that choice!

Toyman, calling someone a thief is not being annoyed, it is being angry. She never once claimed they were her pictures. And who cares anyway, other than you.

And really, your comparison to someone "borrowing my dog" was, quite frankly, pretty absurd. If you don't want your pictures copied without your permission, have them copyrighted. I have enjoyed your pictures in the past and am happy to see them pop up again to remind me how good they were.

So, like I said before, lighten up. This is supposed to be a happy place.

OK...I'm not going to perpetuate this....you took my quote, but did you see the rest of the post? This is exactly what I'm trying to say. There is no reason for rudeness or anger or dissing on these Boards. What I said was not harshi it was in response to something that I thought was totally unacceptable on these Boards. If you had read the entire posts you may have known where I was coming from.

Anyway, I've said what I wanted to say. Flame me, dis me, quote me, spam me, whatever you want to do to debate me. I stand by my original edict...these Boards are meant to be friendly, not adversarial. You can disagree with me, but please do it politely. That's what Walt had in mind. Disney is a friendly place. If you want to debate issues, go to CNN!!

There's always an ebb and flow to this kind of thing. Sometimes there seems to be more nastiness and then it dies down and then comes back... I don't know that it's worse now than any other time in the past year and a half that I've been hanging out in the Community Forum. Maybe try to avoid some of the hotter topics and if there's someone that really bugs you, you can put them on your ignore list.

My point is your post in that thread likley would have just made it worse had it not been locked.

Yes, there's lots of people making things worse these days including third parties who feel themelves worthy of jumping into threads making rude comments about the rude comments.

Seriously, though: "Peoples is peoples" - and all that goes with that. That's always held true anytime, anywhere I've found myself in the company of humans (even if said "company" is only myself).
