Why has there never been another Storm Along Bay ?

storm along bay is not for everyone but why hasn’t Disney built anything close to it since ? my family has swam at boardwalk, wilderness lodge and Saratoga springs and their main pools are ok but nothing on the scale of our favorite at SAB. We’ve also swam at all stars and Pop but they’re not deluxe resorts and I would not expect deluxe style pools. I look at Riveria and those pools look very plain. Where are the Imaginers who can build great pools ? Is it a public safety issue to build more manageable pools for the lifeguards and parents ? Or is it a financial decision ?

It's probably more like "where are the executives who would be willing to invest more in resort pools".
More like "where are the customers who are willing to pay substantially more for a resort pool"

I imagine the additional revenue vs cost calculation is negative which is why they haven't done it again.

I think the new DVC "Reflections" was supposed to have a pretty nice pool area, possibly with a lazy river. But who knows when that will get going again...

Part of it is size, YC and BC combined is 1200 rooms. Does not include BCV.

If Disney was to build another large complex like that, a SAB type pool could be built.

I wonder if Contemporary isn't that big? And Grand Floridian (which looks huge at night from the docks at MK)? But get your point.

Grand Floridian has about 850 rooms, Contemporary 655 rooms.

Another possible reason is Disney wants your money to go to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon.

Obviously a completely different destination, but the Aulani pool area puts SAB to shame. Disney will create these kinds of pool experiences where they think they need to.

As others have mentioned, Stormalong Bay was created in part to entice professional conferences to come YC/BC and bring families along too. And as others have also mentioned, Disney doesn’t necessarily want guests just lounging around the pool if they can be in the parks spending money.

That’s why Rainbow Reef exists right in the middle of the Waikolohe pool area at Aulani!
Haven't been, yet. Is Rainbow Reef is separated from the pool, like an enclave? SAB was the whole thing with fish throughout and people careening offthe slide and stirring up the sand. I remember suits observing most of a two week visit back in early '91, and soon after, the fish were done. I always wondered if it was humans, the sand storms from the slide entry, the variable weather or all of the above which made it not so great for the fish.

It is in the pool area, but it’s own thing - more of a snorkeling type experience. I’ve heard stories about the short-lived fish in SAB days. I think our first Beach Club stay was spring ‘92 - the fish were gone by then.

Also, Contemporary was the first resort, period. They have already upgraded the original pool.

Yep, spent four nights at the YC this past October and never spent one dime on a park ticket. Enjoyed SAB, Disney Springs and resort hopping. It was unreal. The pool was a ghost town. And I know of at least one other (bet there was more) family that was doing exactly the same thing. SAB was the area where we could spend the most time without having to wear a mask. I bet Disney does now regret how much they invested in SAB, bet they are not getting the return they wanted. I mean it is like having a mini water park included in the price of the hotel, and that includes up to four people in most of the regular resort rooms. This was our second visit to the Yacht Club and we stayed one night a coupe years back at the BCVs on points to yes, just enjoy SAB.
