Why don't Fl residents get same discount?

I do see what the OP is trying to say, and the argurment would be valid if they were making FL residents choose between their FL rate and a lowered DVC rate; but they're getting BOTH!

Your parents pay less than non-residents, now you want more? You can't have your Mickey bar and eat it too.

The farther away you live, the more of a discount you should have IMO, to intice you to come back... yeah right!

This would be my choice...coming from WA state I would probably get in the parks for free! Also, would it be too much to ask that the "Non-Resident Extended Mileage Discount (NREMD)" be applied to food purchases as well?

One more question: When visiting the World Showcase @ Epcot would my NREMD be based on travel from WA to FL or to the country I am visiting? :teeth:

It depends on which country you are visiting. If you're visiting Norway, your NREMD will be based upon your travelling from Washington. If you're visiting Japan or China, your NREMD will be based upon travelling from Florida. Use whatever method gives you the greatest discount.... And this has nothing to do with me being from California. :D

Ok i just quickly read through all these. I THINK it was just a small misunderstanding by the OP that FL resident DVC owners were only getting $20 off a normal full price AP? I could see where if this were true it would make someone upset.

If i understand correctly and in a nutshell FL DVC owners are getting $20 off a discounted FL resident AP, OR if they chose the same $100 of a non-resident AP. (the first being cheaper for them, and than anyone else)

OP? :grouphug:

I for one am truly happy that Disney is sharing the discounts. I am a Fl. resident and feel quite lucky to have all the discounts we are offered. As a DVC owner I am proud that all the owners can now get in on the great discounts that I have been getting for years. I have only been a DVC member since 2003. But I have been using the Fl. residents discounts forever it seems. I know that at the beginning the DVC owners were given free tickets and they are truly missed by the early members. I hope those early members are happy with these discounts, I know they are not the free tickets but,
I thought it was wonderful news that DVC members were going to get AP discounts like us FL residents. YIPEE :cool1:

July :flower1:

Lets solve the whole thing and give every DVC member free tickets!!!

LOL :smooth:

Do you guys really just not get this? A Florida resident should be entitled to the full discount if they are a DVC member, why should they NOT get it just because they already live a Florida and can get a residents rate as well? A DVC member is a DVC member and that should apply to ALL members regardless of where they live. It should be for EVERYONE..... NO EXCEPTIONS. Oh I guess I'm wasting my time here, it's just my thoughts, it's not going to change anything and it's certainly not worth arguing about.
WOW...is all I can say. So, you have never heard the disclaimer - discounts or coupons cannot be COMBINED. Disney is a business and they the offer the discount as an incentive. They are not obligated to do it-- are free to modify-change-or discontinue any and all discounts to any group at any time for ANY reason!

Playing the devils advocate here... we live in FL and spend close to 30 days at WDW annually. We've been FL AP holders for a while. When we are not staying at DVC, we are either staying at a moderate or deluxe with either an AP discount or a FL res discount depending which is available and cheaper. I have always had the opinion that Disney viewed the FL AP or any FL discount as standard fare for FL residents to balance out the seasonality of the tourism industry and to compete for the local dollars. For example, Seaworld had a FL resident buy a one day ticket and get a year pass free. US/PI also has FL promotions. A 1-4 hour drive to WDW is not a barrier for spur of the moment weekend trips for FL residents, but this is not the typical behavior of DVC members by its very nature. If the DVC ticket discount perk doesn't translate into members buying more points, then it's not going to make you go to the parks any more unless we all stay in studios (assuming we are all staying in villas) or you start staying at resorts like we do using your newly found AP discount. Therefore there is a good argument that the discount truly is a “gift” to DVC members and will probably spell out as a wash with those dollars saved being spent on something Disney anyway. So there you have it, the FL rates are standard fare for residents and there is a measurable value for offering this and the DVC perk is just that, a reward for us being DVC members. So the OP was just saying that the reward should be the same across the board. Who knows, the extra hundred off may spark a large increase in FL DVC members, as silly as it may seem. I can see the OP point, even tho I am very grateful for the token DVC discount offered.

Disney traditionally does not discount something more than once, usually it's one discount or the other. They are already getting a substantial discount for being Florida residents. They are getting an additional discount to keep their price slightly lower than the rest of the DVC members.

I agree with Debbie. *Most* businesses will not let you combine discounts. In the case of Florida DVC members, they basically are getting all of the Florida discount, plus a bit of the DVC discount. This seems fair to me.

I mean, if all discounts were combinable, then Disney would probably wind up PAYING Florida resident, DVC-owning, Military Veteran, Disney cast members to visit the parks.

That would make the AP as cheap as the Seasonal Pass. I'd take it if offered but an unreasonable expectation IMO. Even giving the additional minor discount was more than I'd have expected they would have done.

I disagree; the new AP discount will easily make you go to the parks more - even if you don't buy more points. Disneys seems to be addressing the fact that, over time (years, decades), DVCers may tend to decrease the number of Disney park days in favor of all of the other entertainment options available in Central Florida. This is backed up by the price structure of the new MYW ticket - the more days you buy (and hence spend on-site) the lower the marginal cost.

I do not mean any disrespect to Florida residents, but I think these latest offers are fair to everyone. Although Florida residents do not obtain as great a discount as "out of state'ers", normally these families have to spend far more to get to WDW. Whether flying, renting a car, staying off site for a day or two, etc. they help off set an increase in florida state taxes. Believe you me, tourism is what saves florida residents from paying property taxes similar to people living in areas such as the Northeast. This debate has been on this site for quite a few years and FINALLY DVC members have a benefit that they can be looking forward to for many years to come. This is a good business decision by DVC/WDW/Disney to keep interest in their product & in some small way, it is like saying thank you for your investment.

wait a minute...are you saying that Fl residents get the discount because they spend MORE time at Disney, say 30 days a year?? If that were true, we should all get our discounts based on the amount of time we spend at Disney. Don't forget that out-of-state snowbirds don't get the Fl discount, but they would probably spend 30 days a year at Disney, at least. In my case, I spend over 30 days a year there, and I am not a Fl resident, I am a crazy Michiganian who keeps the airlines in business!!

Cruella,

You are definitely a committed Disney fan! :cheer2:

Like I said in closing, I am grateful for the added discount, but Disney made a business decision to treat FL residents with a different fare structure to encourage multiple visits for the very reason some of you have said.... there's little transportation costs or travel time compared to most "out of Staters". As harsh as it sounds, these travel costs don't go into Disney coffers and Disney knows they have little control over these costs. Therefore, their business model had to focus on a balance between how much can be discounted before travel costs become too prohibitive yet still turn the maximum profit. The FL AP is less than a buck a day if you go everyday. While unrealistic for anyone to go everyday, I know some O-Town residents that go nearly every weekend. Therefore food and novelties and lodging become the primary source of revenue for the AP holder. When it comes to DVC, FL residents pay the same as the rest of the world. We all talk about the old days when we got admission for free.... well I'd be curious to see statistically how OKW member's booking patterns and park spending had changed once they started paying for park tickets. My bet is that it hasn't changed much. Just look at your own excitement... the majority of DVC members are excited over saving money much more than canceling plans of going to Universal.

Well, we are off to Ft. Myers this weekend and BWV next. :cool1:

Bingo

FL residents, like many other groups get, get the discounts because Disney says so. Same for CA and UK as well as GA, TX and TN in one way or another. Disney does this to encourage the groups they feel will help them out. For FL Residents, I'm sure it's to encourage continued visits throughout the year.

HOLY SMOKES!!! Every time I come home from my week at work there is something shocking on the boards!

No disrespect to the OP, but I agree with the majority on this one...
