Why doesn't Rachael Ray's magazine list nutrition info?

I ordered Rachael Ray's magazine and just got my first issue yesterday. I was looking up the recipes and noticed that they do not list the nutrition information, like calories, fat content, etc.! I also noticed that the recipes did not seem to be consumer friendly - like lamb, pomegranate, goat cheese and that's just one recipe!!!
Does anyone else get her magazine - is every issue like this? :surfweb:

She does not do nutritional information, which I actually am fine with. You can tell pretty easy about what things would be. Good food is the focus of her magazine, not eating a certain way...

and what is odd about lamb, goat cheese, and pomegranate? I can find it here in NE TN without issues.

They are a little out of the norm for the average American cook--not unheard of, but not exactly beef, cheddar cheese, and apples. None of those ingredients would be especially budget-friendly either.

For someone like Rachael Ray who sells herself as a simple cook, it wouldn't exactly be what I was expecting. I would expect most of her recipes to draw from the common American market basket.

I've been a subscriber from the beginning. She does not list nutritional information and they actually addressed that in a letters to the editor awhile back and don't plan to. I find in her magazine that some recipes are a stretch - she includes a LOT of recipes in there, along with additional ones on both her shows - so it makes sense that they are trying to think outside the box and use some more unique items.

I may try 2-3 recipes from every new issue I get. Sometimes even just 1. The magazine is more than a recipe magazines so I'm okay with that. I enjoy the articles, shopping tips, etc that are also in it.

I watch calories (sometimes) and it's pretty easy to doctor up her recipes to fit whatever calorie intake I'm going. I use them more as guides.

ETA: My complaint with RR has always been that she uses too many ingredients, and many of them are pricey. That was before her magazine and when she just did 30 minute meals. When I fix some of them, I slim the ingredient list down so much that it's practically a whole new recipe!

Well, I'm glad I only spent $4.99 for the subscription! One of the deals that was listed on the Budget board. Had I known the magazine was going to be like that, I would not have gotten it at all. I like 30 minute meals, the show, and thought the recipes would be similar to that. This is the first magazine I have ever seen that does not list the nutritional information in the recipes and I am surprised that they can get away with it. They are making all restaurants list the nutritional information for the food they sell now, practically everything food related in a store has the nutritional information on it.

I just re-started my subscription (thanks to the deal on this board:)), and foudn that my first issue was a little more full of the "fancy ingredient" recipes than the magazine used to be (it might just be this issue, or it might the way the magazine is going, not sure). I used to cook about 5-10 recipes from each issue, and in this issue there are only a few I am interested in.

One thing I do to combat the expensive ingredients is menu plan. If a recipe calls for goat cheese, for example, I will try to find 2 goat cheese recipes to make sure I am using all of it. I'll also use less of a more expensive ingredient, or I substitute a LOT. DH goes a little crazy when he'll try to tackle a recipe before I get home and can't figure out where any of the ingredients are. I also leave out ingredients sometimes, and the food always tastes good anyways.

I also try to make the recipes a little healthier (use less butter, low fat sour cream, etc.), because many are laden with butter, EVOO, meat, and sauces. They are all quite tasty, but I try to make them healthy too.

I don't really care about not having the nutritional info. In this house, I am about teaching to eat in moderation and eating healthy foods. RR is pretty much of the same opinion--everything in moderation.

I DO think some months are better than others as far as her recipes go but I usually find at least one or two recipe ideas I'd like to try. Lamb is definitely not my cup of tea but you have to remember that she is a foodie! I think her magazine is great.

Rachel is about quick and easy meals. She never said she wouldn't use interesting ingredients. Though she is not a chef, she does have a very diverse palate and is widely known as a foodie. I would definitely expect something different from her on occassion because that's who she is and I completely appreciate her magazine more than her show because I don't have to listen to her. :teeth:

I do like RR, and have made some of her recipes. My 2 pet peeves - she will label (on the show) a recipe healthy, but I've actually done the math, and even though the only fat is EVOO, a portion will have over 1000 calories! Yes, some fat is healthier than other fat, but it is still calorie-crammed. My other peeve is "this is what is for dinner tonight," when the recipes are posted at the end of the week on the website. I want to make it tonight!

I used to get her magazine and didn't really like it. Lack of nutritional info was one reason. But..I really like Food Network magazine and it doesn't list info all that often either. I just find it a much more interesting magazine.

Well..I MAY be able to find them in my little NM burg (we have Super WalMart and Lowes Pay and Save which should be called Lowe's Pay and Pay ALOT), but not easy to do.
