Why does this work?

It's the rule of 9's or something like that. You'll always get a number evenly divisable by 9. If you look at the chart all multiples of 9 have the same symbol-- the one you see with the half moon.

that's really strange. any time i actually went through it, it got it right. when i just picked a random number it never got it. i would love to know how it works. It has to have something to do with the symbols changing every time, I just dont know how.

Sorry for the above post, I just couldn't help myself!

I can tell you why it "works". There is a number pattern. Using their formula, only multiples of 9 will be your answer (ex. 18). Every time you click on the crystal ball, the symbols move around. So now go to the website and see what the symbol is for 18, click on the crystal ball and that symbol will magically appear!! Try it a few times, and you'll see that the symbol by 18 keeps coming up ::yes::

**They also try to trick you by making 90 a different symbol. That's because with their formula, 90 will never be an answer.

Oh, the symbols do change each time, but the multiples of 9 all remain identical to each other-- so it is not always the half moon one. The only cases where it doesn't apply is 99 and 90 as you will never get that as you answer if you follow the directions.

Using their math 'formula', you can only get a few answers to this problem. They make the symbols beside all the possible answers the same every time. As PryncessChrysty says, 18 is one of the possible answers, so that symbol always comes up. The others are 9, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, and 81.

*Edit - Rutt and Tuke beat me to it! :)

OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH, now I get it.

Thanks!! :D :D

The creator is a witch! A witch I tell you!;) ;) ;)

J/K!

Phew...now I can sleep tonight! I didn't even notice the symbols changed! Thanks to all of you smart folks!!

It didn't work for me, never got the symbol that it should have, wonder why?

I was able to figure out the "9's" one before reading anyone's explanation. But will someone please explain the Simeon's Cave of Magic one . I haven't figured it out yet.

ALL the cards are different in the second screen of Simeon's magic. They look similar though. Write down all the cards then go on to the next screen, you'll see none of the original ones are there.

Here's why it is 9's:

Your number is x. It has a tens place and a ones place, so we can write it as 10 times some number p, plus 1 times some number q. For 25, p=2 and q=5.
Then, they tell you to add up the digits: p+q
Then, they tell you to subtract that from your original number:
x - (p+q) = x - p -q
Remember that x is 10p + 1q. So x - p - q is the same as
(10p + q) - p - q
Simplify:
9p

So the result of what they tell you to do is always a multiple of 9. Specifically, it is nine time the first digit of your number.
