Why does nobody like the hat??

I don't like the hat simply because it doesn't "fit" with the theming of the area.

You used to be able to walk into the park and "imagine" that you were walking into classic hollywood. Now, you can't. There's a gaudy blue hat staring at you.

I like the idea posted before, where it could be moved to the Animation area. I LOVE that idea. It would fit, and would make for a great landmark for that area.

:thumbsup2

I loved the bling castle! Wish they'd put it back on, but that obviously won't happen. Besides, the gold Wendy and Peter Pan now live in DLP. I get all sentimental every time I see them....

I HATE the hat! Doesn't fit the themeing at all, doesn't particularly represent the park as an icon, doesn't act as a "weenie" in the park, and what's inside the icon... A pin gift store?! Lame!

The Chinese Theatre and the Earfull Tower are the true DHS icons (or MGM if you want to get really nostalgic lol)

I happen to love the hat. If you take a picture at the right angle, it can look like you are wearing the hat. :)

Yes, but you could do that no matter where it was located. Where it is happens to be, IMHO, the worst possible place for it.

I like the hat, because I grew up going to MGM when the hat was there. I would have loved to see the whole park before the hat though. It messed up the huge hidden mickey

I don't hat the hat but it's in the wrong spot (though I understand why it's there). It SHOULD BE...it BELONGS...on top of the EARFUL TOWER, which is the rightful and historic icon of the park.

I'm new to the boards but i have been a lurker for a while and i see posts about the hat. Posts saying how it's ''Pathetic'' and ''Pointless''. Now i know it isn't as big as the others but it is still a great structure. If someone showed me that hat i would imeidiatly think of DHS. Just like evertime i see a golf ball i think ''EPCOT'':rotfl2:
Ha! I thought you posted, "Whenever I see the hat, I think of DTD."

Then I'd have said, "And that's why people hate it."

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

But, seriously, the hat's fine. Honestly, everyone, what ELSE is going to go there?:)

The hat is cool, but I wish there was something more interesting inside the hat. I even love Disney merch, but don't think it needs to be in the hat.:earsboy:

I agree with this. I love the hat, but there really is little to do underneath it for such a park icon.

I like the hat but it is in a wrong place and it is not big enough. All other icons have something inside, ride, TS, show, hat got nothing. It is like they did not really think what they were doing and put it there in a rush.

I'm aware, but it is what it is. I am just pointing out what a fun pic it can be. In Disney as a whole, it's just isn't a huge deal to our family. We do love the theater though. So cool!!

Nobody?? I'm somebody! ...and I love the Sorceror's Hat! :wizard:

It's a natural actually. Pin sales equals money. Money equals Hollywood. Perfect fit. :rotfl:

So true. :rotfl:

You know, for me it's the old saying "Ignorance is Bliss". I love the hat, but I wish I could, in person, know what it looked like before. That way I could make a better decision between the two.

...but for me and my family, we LOVE the hat! It's all we know and it totally reminds us of our second favorite park (at this time) behind MK. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

~These photo's are just fabulous! I cannot deny how gorgeous the Chinese Theatre is, but it's not "Disney" to me. The Sorcerer's Hat is my favorite! :lovestruc :goodvibes

~Thank you Disney, for giving us two amazing icons instead of one! :wizard: :goodvibes

I loved the hat! People on DIS will complain about water being wet.

This is probably the most accurate line I have ever read. When I talk about the DIS to non-DIS people, that's exactly how I describe many of the people who I have seen come and go over the years. That being said...

I love the hat, and I have been to DHS/MGM since before the hat was there. And because I am a Disney purist, I must point out that the hat was installed in 2001 to commemorate Walt Disney's 100th birthday. Not to block an MGM logo or anything like that. And yes, the Earful Tower was the original icon for Disney/MGM Studios.

My first visit to WDW was during the 25th anniversary celebration. This means that the first time I saw Cinderella Castle in person, I got to see the birthday cake overlay. I was very impressed at the sight. I may not have seen the castle in person before 1997, but I was well-aware of what it looked like.

The sorcerer hand and wand was added to Spaceship Earth in 1999 as part of the millenium celebration. The numbers "2000" above Spaceship Earth were changed to the word "EPCOT" after that celebration, and until the structure was eventually taken down. The number 100 was never part of this.

These changes, or "plusses" as Walt Disney often called them, have always been enjoyable to me. Disers are quick to jump on changes to the parks. Sometimes they are a little bit over-sensitive. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally have not seen a Disney movie since 2001. While I love the parks and the Disney classics, I have lost interest in everything else.

So when a legendary rides like POTC get "plussed" with Johnny Depp, or when IASW gets "plussed" with Disney characters, it ruins the original theme of an attraction that Walt Disney created himself. That is blasphemy to a fan of the real Disney. And in the case of IASW (Disneyland) Walt's tribute to the children of the world has become a shameless Disney (and Pixar) character promotion. Talk about destroying theming.
