Why does nobody like the hat??

I like the hat, however I hate the fact that it is blocking the view of the Chinese Theater. DHS is suppose to be about the glamours and glitz of old Hollywood, and you get that with the neon and the buildings and then....a giant hat?? Again, I honesty like the hat, but I just wish it was somewhere else.

Love the hat, hate the location. That area of the park had some lovely theming, and then they plop a giant hat/gift shiop in the middle? It's like the giant hand and wand they put on Spaceship Earth.

If I was in charge, I'd move it to Downtown Disney. That area really needs an icon.

I looked at pictures before the hat and I have to admit that I like it better without the hat(though I do love the hat) If I had it my way, I would move the hat somewhere else, and try to give the park more of an old hollywood feel with some of it dedicated to disney animation. Nowadays I dont know what they're going for with the park:confused3:confused3

See, I was alright with the wand when it had the 100 on it. It was an honor to Walt and that was just fine with me. And I was okay with it for a little while when they had it spell EPCOT. But after a while I just wanted to remember what it really looked like. The wand did look beautiful at night but I think that SSE looks just beautiful at night all on it's own.

The big difference between the wand and the hat is that the wand was temporary (even when they changed it to say EPCOT, I think it was still considered to be a temporary structure).

I LOVE the idea of moving the hat to DD. I never even thought of that! But we all know that dang hat isn't going anywhere any time soon.

I still say they should put the hat on top of the Earful Tower. Maybe tilt it to a rakish angle.....

Hmmm......I've always liked the hat and I knew it was not there when the park first opened but added later. I never really gave it much thought to be honest. However now I would love to see some pictures of what everything looked like before they added the hat.

I also liked the wand in Epcot. I think the reason it never bothered me is because my first visit was in 2000. It's interesting how ones perception of things in the parks can vary greatly depending on what their personal experiences have been. I have an aunt who has been going since the 70's and I have heard her complain about the various changes she has seen happen. Since these are things I have never experienced they don't bother me. Luckily so far nothing changed in the past dozen years has phased me too much. (well except the closing of SWSA) It also reminds me of those who hated Iago and Zazu in the Enchanted Tiki room and prefer the original show but many of those who never saw the original show back in the day seem to like the Under new management version better because that is what we remember.

Anyway....where can I find some old photos of MGM (still and always will be MGM to me, kind of like what I mentioned ;))

I love the hat. My favorite Disney family photo was taken in front of it also. (see avatar)

Thank you! That really does change the feel of the place. I love historical architecture even if it's only a replica. I definitely think the Chinese Theater gets lost now or at the very least is under appreciated.

I like it but I also liked the wand on Spaceship Earth (... ducks for cover).

I think that the point I'm trying to make is that Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, and the Tree of Life have always been the icons of the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Animal Kingdom. BUT the hat has not always been the icon of DHS. So when you mention tearing down all the other icons and how outlandish that would be, keep in mind that, while it was not torn down, the Chinese Theater was once the icon of DHS and has been replaced. And THAT'S perhaps why so many people have a problem with it.

Not correcting you but I thought the Earful water tower was the icon of the DHS before the Soccerer's hat?
At least that's what I have on a magnet from '97? I might be totally wrong :confused3

Edit: I forgot to say I love the hat but only because I adore Fantasia. However I agree DTD would suit it much better!

You're right, the water tower was the park icon before the hat.

Did you like the pink birthday cake on the castle too? ;)

Not sure wether the poster you was quoting liked it but i LOVED it!!!!!!

i remember walking up to it i could only have been around 12 and thinking it was the most amazing thing id ever seen lol and YES i had been every yr for the 12 yrs before when the castle was a castle........I also like the HAT and the wand!! :lmao: but have to admit that when it was just the Theatre you could see it was a beautiful sight!

I do wonder wether the hat was added to make the place seem more child friendly :confused3 as a child MGM"the studios" didnt seem the most child like place considering it was at Disney but when the Hat was added i remember being much more excited abot what i was seeing when walking up that street.

That's not what the PP is saying at all. He/she is saying you MAY feel differently if you got to experience the original view.

Boring! The Hollywood sign is what dominates Hollywood, CA. The theater is a huge tourist attraction, but a mere blip in the architecture of Hollywood.

I think they should put a huge hat in front of the Hollywood sign. ;)
