Why does food taste batter when someone else cooks it?

Last night I made hamburgers and french fries for dinner. I also had creamed spinach (the kids won't touch it). I was just a regular dull meal. My DD's went nuts. It was the greatest thing. "This is better than McDonald's. We just didn't get a toy. You're the best mom."

I have gone over to a friend's house had boxed mac and cheese with hot dogs on paper plates. It was delicious. I do it at my house and it is dull and tasteless.

Why is it better when someone else cooks it?

My mom and I have ALWAYS said the same thing. I don't know why it tastes better, it just does!!!

I dont' know but I would love to know the answer. I'll never forget being at my friends house for lunch and she made me a turkey sandwich. Well I went on and on about how great this sandwich was. I think they thought I was a bit crazy but it tasted so good.

I guess that will be one of the questions that will plague man/woman for centuries to come. LOL

If we are talking about other people..then it never does. I do a better job than most on my family.

However, if we are talking about a restuarant I think it tastes better when you dont have to cook, clean, clear or pick up or put away the food.

For me, it's not so much food as tea. Always tastes better when someone else makes it for me! Coffee, on the other hand, is always butchered unless I do it myself. Go figure.

Its not rocket science to figure out in my case. It tastes better when someone else cooks it because I pretty much suck at cooking.

I agree. However, it doesn't work that way for my kids. They complain about my food, but when they help cook suddenly it's fabulous!

That's funny that you brought this question up, because I was thinking the same thing this past weekend! I had surgery, and my mom brought over some stew. Nothing different than what I make, but *boy* was it good! *So* much better than when I make it!

I think it's the same force at work that makes one's children willingly and happily clean house at a friend's but drag their feet torturously when asked to do it at home!
