Why does Costco close so early on Saturdays? Or is it just mine?

I agree that the hours should be longer on the weekends! It is really cheap of them to only have one shift on Saturdays/Sundays. I shouldn't have to plan my entire day around when Costco closes because it is so much earlier than all other retail businesses in our area! It obviously all comes down to their bottom line, not customer service!

I don't have a problem with their hours. I guess if you don't like the hours you can shop somewhere else. I think their customer service is wonderful, the people that work in the store are very helpful.

When we lived in NJ - the stores & mall were all closed on Sundays in Bergen Cty.. If I needed something I would just go someplace else to get it.

It never bothered me... don't even care that they do it on weekends at all since neither of us work, it isn't an issue to have to "get in there" before they close. I don't think I've ever been shopping that late on a Saturday night anyway :confused3

Ok I do not work at Costco nor do I have anything to do with them but I can tell you that it very well may be a customer service issue. Where I work we close at 5 on Fridays and 5 on Saturdays , Sundays noon to 4. Sorry if you didn’t get here in time but we have the hours posted for years it is nothing new. It is hard to get , train and maintain employees (especially those with knowledge) You need to give then time to see their family. I also find it ironic that if the tables were turned say you work at a Dentist office and my appointment was the last one in the day and I was late, would you stay open? For how long and extra 10 minutes 1 hour, 3 hours? I highly doubt it.(we seriously have customers that just start shopping for items that need a huge sales pitch at 5 till) By keeping us late , or working longer hours yes we may get more customers but at a certain point where you are just physically drained how nice are you going to be to those customers. Then when we are not all smiles we get told how bad our customer service

I know a few people who are real night owls and don't even go to the grocery store to do their shopping until 9:00 p.m. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, but I think it's unreasonable to expect every store to be open in the evenings. Just as it would be unreasonable for me to expect the mall to open at 7:30 a.m. I'd like for that to be so, but it just isn't happening.

Their hours don't keep me from shopping there. I worked for Costco for a brief time (moonlighting on the weekends) in the mid 80's when they were a relatively new company. They are a TERRIFIC employer.

I don't think they have any need to change their hours. I doubt it would change their bottom line. I've noticed that even on week nights when they ARE open, business is much slower.

Costco membership is a benefit to Costco employees - not to vender employees.

Isnt AMERICA GREAT???

A business is FREE to set its own hours.
A consumer is FREE to NOT SHOP at said business, for any reason.

Bottome line obviously their business is doing just fine with current hours, nobody is forced to "plan their day around these hours". There are plenty of other business to choose from. WHAT A COUNTRY.

Well said....

And for those who say its not great customer service...

What other store can you bring in your swing set 5 years later and return it.. or your snow blower int he summer when you don't need it anymore.

Luv'sTink,

I am sorry to hear about your nephew.. they do pull though in times like that. Even though I was a vendor I was there for 4 years at at points worked 7 days a week. There were a fews deaths and everyone pulled together and the store itself helped out alot

I would venture to guess that policies like that can/will lead to price increases if a store continues to take back merchandise that isn't fault (and covered by warranty) or can not be re-sold.

Costco by FAR has the BEST customer service/return policy in existance.
Our Costos here are open until 6:30 on Saturdays 6 pm on Sundays and 8:30 Monday-Fridays
They start their employees her at almost $14 per hour with an increase after 30 days.
One of the things that I like is that over the years you see the same smiling faces. A sign that Costco must not only treat their employees well, but that they are also doing something right.

Amen

They are free to go were ever they want to go.

Kind of like one of my father's sayings

"If you don't like it, leave. And don't let the door hit you on the way out".

Well said. I couldn't have said it better.

But their bottom line is their business. I'm cool with their hours if I can continue to get items cheaper at their store. Their customer service is also better than many of the normal stores so I am not going to complain because I can't go there on a Saturday night. I've got better things to do then anyway.

Thanks for the insights - though I am confused that so many got their panties in a wad because I asked about their store hours. Oh well, this is the Disboards - that is to be expected around here!

We have Sams and Costco, 2 blocks apart. If Costco is closed, we go to Sams. Costco is my first choice but not everyone can shop between 8-5 (8 on weekday) so they don't always get my business. Ours Sams is just as clean, just as friendly, and have great customer service as well. I prefer Costco brand products more than Sams Choice but if they aren't open, I go up the street. No biggie to me.

(and I do grocery shopping after 10pm when I go, I don't have hours in the day to get it done. Thankfully my Kroger is open and empty at that time! It's a great time to go)
