Why Do You Spend the Money on Deluxe?

Queen beds is a big one for me with deluxes. It's actually a big bonus to being DVC (always have a queen or king). The rooms in the values actaully make me a bit clausterphobic and I really don't care for over sized everything theming. For me it is always moderates, DtD or DVC now.

We choose to stay in the deluxe resorts because of the amenities, room size, and service. I also like the on-site dining at most of the deluxes, plus the transportation is good.

Oh yeah, and the pools!

We've done mod's as well as a deluxe (CR), and we like the deluxe solely for the convenience of walking to/from the MK and the monorail to Epcot. We're not at/in the hotel for lengthy periods of time so for us, while we appreciate nice decor, and like a good pool, it's not what we're there for. We're going to our first value (Pop) in 11 more wake-ups and are looking forward to that experience. Who knows - we may end up being POP junkies and never go back to a mod or a deluxe!!

While reading a book, relaxing at the Poly pool the other day, I realized one thing that made me glad I booked there. There were no large groups of children. I don't mean large families, or magical gatherings, I mean large teen or kids groups (for sporting events or whatever). I have nothing against kids and think it is wonderful every time any kid gets to go to WDW. I also think it is wonderful that you can choose to pay a bit more and not have to deal with that when you just want a relaxing vacation.
I choose a value or moderate for shorter stays, but if it is a longer stay, where I will spend more time at the resort, I'd rather pay the extra and stay deluxe.

That was the exact reason we booked the Poly. We will definitely spend a few hours back at the hotel each day, and wanted somewhere with great transportation (we will spend most of our time at MK) and a nice pool for the kids (and the frosty beverage selection certainly helped!) Once the kids are older and we go more commando style, then I think we will definitely consider two value rooms.

I think these were very well stated. I am very glad that Disney offers "something for everyone." When I was a kid we could never afford to stay on property because the CR and Poly were too expensive for us. Ours is because of how close it is to the parks. Walking to MGM and Epcot was a big deal for us the last 2 trips. Our next stay we are hoping for Poly where we will be able to use the monorail which we love. A big portion for us is transportation basically. My son uses a wheel chair and the buses are a pain to say the least ... we would much rather use a boat or the monorail or walk. For us not having to use the buses to get to every park is worth the extra money.

we are a family of extremes, it's either the all stars or the Poly for us. The choice tends to be somewhat price led followed by the type of holiday we are planning.

If we are having a slower trip, more resort time, then I will stay at the Poly, the transportation, larger room, balcony and the deep quiet pool, are all factors.

If we are having a busier trip with some offsite time at Universal then we stay at the All Stars, it makes sense for us.

This trip has free dining, and Universal, so it makes sense to stay at all stars, and yes I am so excited about this trip, but I am also a little sad that we will not waken up on our first morning (the benefits of time difference) and be walking through the poly grounds as the sun comes up, and hearing MK come to life, with the sounds of HM and the railroad drifting over the seven seas lagoon ...... ahhhhhh well it will keep till next year

The only level I have not stayed at is a Value, only because every Disneyite tells me not to. The Mods are quite nice. But given the rising resort rates, I might actually consider the Swan or Dolphin next time.

We are a family of 5 and I like us all to be in one room. However, DD14 has recently started to monopolize the bathroom, so I may need to rethink my "all in one room" preference.

This will be our first time staying in a Deluxe. The only reason we're doing it is b/c we couldn't afford it when we got married for our honeymoon. So, we've scrimped and saved to be able to do it. It's our 2nd anniversary so we're also calling it our 2nd honeymoon. We always wanted to stay at WL. We'll probably never be able to do this again but we wanted to do it at least once. Good thing it's this year b/c we really couldn't afford it next year. We could only do a standard so we have two beds instead of a king but at least we'll be there.

Love being on the Monorail. Love the queen beds and daybed. Double beds just aren’t big enough for a weeklong stay. We need our sleep. Love the great restaurants on site. Love feeling like you're on a truly wonderful vacation. I just think it’s so cool to hop on the monorail and be in the MK in a matter of minutes. That really helps maximize your fun time. A few years ago we stayed offsite (at a very nice hotel) and regretted it. One particular night some cab driver took the scenic route to our hotel all the while talking like Hannibal Lecter. With the kids in the car I was reluctant to raise heck until we FINALLY made it back to the hotel. Then once the kids were out of the cab and safe, I let him have it. I don’t need that kind of stress on any vacation. DID I MENTION I LOVE BEING ON THE MONORAIL???????????

We like the deluxe because they are closer to the parks which means we can go back to the hotel quicker in the heat as well as get back to the parks quicker

have stayed at CR four times for "special" occasions (first trip ever with DS, graduation gift for DS, DH and my honeymoon, and my first solo trip)

otherwise, it's either the All-Star Movies or Pop Century

the MK view from the CR room balcony is incredible, surreal - i've got over 6 hours (combined) video just of the view (panning back and forth, back and forth, zooming in, day and night....) - the convenience of the monorail, being able to walk to the MK all add to the experience

We have stayed at all levels too. We go to Disney about 3 times a year. I do love the convenience of staying at Poly and WL to the magic kingdom. But for some reason I LOVE POP CENTURY! My mom, who usually travels with us, calls POP the concrete palace. She is truly a resort snob and only likes deluxes. I guess we have always stayed at POP during a slow time of year. We have always had the best service there and it has a great food court. My kids are 2 and 4 and they love it there too! They think riding the bus is the coolest thing.

Because I am a spoiled girl & have stayed at Deluxes pretty much my whole life (with the exception of 2 trips that I split a stay with a mod/deluxe & value/deluxe).

It's hard to go back when you've been there & you know what you'd be missing.

My reasons are based on the Poly but can go for a few other deluxes as well.

I love the BC but I can't stay there because I'd miss the monorail, listening to the boats, the Haunted Mansion, the train, & just looking out & seeing the view (not from my room because I won't stay lagoon view).

I love the smell of the Poly. It is a smell from my childhood. Some posts in the past I have read that "it was musty smelling". But that is the smell I have always remembered way back in the mid-70's & all thru out the 80's to the present.

I love the monorail (hence my name). It is probably my favorite ride & I get all giddy with excitement when I see it for the first time each trip.

I love the ability to walk to the TTC & take the monorail to Epcot or when I am returning from AK or MGM (and I don't boat it to Epcot & walk to the front to the monorail after having lunch there) or even DtD, I can look for the Poly bus or the TTC bus.

I like having a door & a sliding glass door. I like light & I don't like that little window that I felt the need to keep closed so no one walking by could look in. Yes they can look in thru the slider but I can keep it half way open/shut if need be & still get light & some privacy too.

Our reason for choosing deluxe (which we did even offsite), is mainly because of what we were told about the values by friends who've been there...done that. They complained primarily about the noise level, thin walls,etc. I'm not saying that....that's what was told to us. Deluxe rooms offer things values can't. Peace and serenity, TS restaurants, beautiful pools, various types of transportation, more 'elbow room' , etc. As someone has said, it's like a vacation within a vacation! After the parks you get back to your resort and its refreshing, comforting and relaxing I know my DH will not stay in a value resort so long as it is within his power, (not saying never ) but it is HIGHLY unlikely for him to do that, as that is just not the type of person he is

DH is self-employed and works 80+ a week in hard physical labor type of work.... he will not stay anywhere other than the YC/BC esp. when we only go to Disney usually every other year (this year is the exception as last year's trip was only 5 days and it wasn't enough time ) and we don't vacation elsewhere in between Disney trips usually.... he's too much of a workaholic to take any other time off We love the ambience of the resort.... the pool.... the service.... the proximity to Epcot, etc., etc., etc.... we just really feel like we're "HOME" when we walk through those doors I just can't convince him to downgrade to a moderate or value (though we never book higher than a standard room at the YC/BC and only do so with a discount~AAA or a Disney one!) Hey, we're YC/BC snobs, what can I say
