Why do you people think taking the toiletries is stealing?

Stealing something that is left in the room for your personal use??? I agree, take this to the debate board, and someone would call it stealing. We also gather up the toiletries evey day in order to get more. DH travels a lot, and does the same. Recently I cleaned out the cupboard that I toss all of that stuff into, and came away (I kept the WDW stuff) with 4 grocery bags full. (we even had some from the Hemsley-about 10 years ago.) I took the bags to the Salvation Army shelter....:sunny:

How can it be stealing?!?!? They are there for you to use. If you only use part of it or even just open it, it would be thrown away!

I bring 'em home and keep them in my guest bathroom!

I have a little basket on the counter in there, with the soaps, shampoos, lotions, extra (new) toothbrushes, travel size toothpaste...

When we have guests coming to stay, I just pretend I'm "mousekeeping" when I freshen up the guest room and bath!

Okay...where does this fall on the continuum?

Whenever we are at the Hard Rock Hotel I take a washcloth to the parks with me during the day and bring it back in the evening. I do not take the washcloths home. Am I going to H-E double hockey sticks?

BTW The HRH has great lotions and stuff.

I am WITH you all, but over on the DB and RB.........it's stealing.

Has there been a thread on the debate board that I can read or is it just a hypothesis? If there isn't one, it would be fun to post a thread to see if the prediction is true!

We keep the Mickey soaps! Last trip, our mousekeeper made a WL fireplace out of soap. It was so cute! And I brought them home, too! :p

Toiletries are alright, but some people take to the extreme I imagine. Towels and washclothes are a bit much. ::yes::

Hey could anyone steal some for me please??? ;) ;) ;)

btw, sandra, I was laughing so hard my dog wondered what was going on.

OK, I have to post... We are DVC, and they only leave stuff every few days. When DW traveled for business, she used to save them and give them (from non WDW hotels) to a co-worker who gave them to a police program that taught hygiene to kids from rough homes, but I like the Leukemia patients link better.

Hey, what do you say you move this thread to the Resort Board and ask them their opinions...

:bounce:

We have a nice collection of toiletries from our travels - some we use and some we keep as souvenirs! :D

Last time we stayed at the Swan the literature they gave us at check in explained that part of the "resort fee" was to furnish guests with soap, coffee, etc.

After I read that, you bet your *** I packed it and took it with me.

I usually don't, other than at Disney. I always kept their stuff because I had so many kids to share it with.

I don't think it's stealing at all. Not only do I take the toiletries, all of my friends do as well, and I box them up and send them off to a shelter for battered women in a very economically depressed area of the country. I once mentioned to one of the concierge staff at a WDW resort that I do this and how much the kids in the shelter love the Mickey toiletries. When we returned to the room that night, there was a BAG of soaps and shampoos in the room with a note that they hoped the kids enjoyed them.

I take the toiletries so they are replaced daily, and on some longer stays in some resorts/hotels which are extremely generous with the toiletries, I can end up with half a suitcase by the end of the trip.

The cost of the toiletries are calculated into the room rate, with the expectation that the guest will use them. Whether the guest uses them while at the resort, or tales them home, it doesn't matter to the hotel. You've paid for them with the room rate.

It's nice to know that I am not the only soap/shampoo kleptomaniac in the world :D On my last trip the mousekeeper (i love that term!) kept adding fun little fancy folded towels and washclothes. So each day we tipped a little more and on the last day she made a Mickey head on the bed out of a towel and two hand towels. We didn't get a picture of that but we got one of the beautiful folded washcloths on the vanity...it was pretty cool. And yes me and my 2 friends divvied up the soap and stuff to bring back with us.

By the way, this month's Real SImple magazine has a section on "ethics" and this very subject is mentioned. The "experts" stated that taking the freebies was not un-ethical. (Taking the towels is another matter LOL!)

I guess I'll be the first person to say I don't take the toiletries -- not because I think for one moment that its stealing though. I don't take them simply because I am the opposite of a packrat - I can't stand extra stuff in my house that I may or may not use.

However, I think I will start collecting them to give to women's shelters -- I never thought of that before. Thanks for the ideas!

What are oatmeal soap bars???????

You'll find them at the Swan and Dolphin resorts. It's the type of bath bars they provide, you will also get a glycerine facial bar as well.

The oatmeal soap has the most wonderful clean scent, and it has little flecks of real oatmeal in the bar! It's great for exfoliating!

We just got back from Hawaii last night and its funny that this would be the first thread I opened.

The resort we stayed at had the most unbelievable wonderful smelling toiletries. I kept taking the stuff off the counter and hiding it in the drawer so they would leave more.... you what? I felt guilty!

Now I don't feel so bad! :p

I too have a small drawer of Mickey soaps etc and now that I know of a place to send the extras we get when we are there I will collect them and send them off to the Soaps for Sick Kids place.
