Why do YOU like (or not like) the Disney Dining Plan?

Folks, I posted the "slop the hogs" comment originally, as an explanation to how it makes MY family feel...not how we see others, or how others should feel. It doesn't matter one bit how others choose to eat or not eat. We all have choices, and what works for my family might not work for yours, and vice versa.

While I did not agree with your comment as written I absolutely knew that you never intended to insult anyone, and your response to me explained what you meant. I wanted to be sure to respond to the poster who used your post to expand on her thoughts. I knew those words were not yours.

It's Saturday & a happy day:flower::flower:

Personal experiences and opinions obviously differ-that was the ops question and that's a jolly good one..

Our first time with ddp was a disaster.
Was not a planner at all.

I hated, yes hated-having to be somewhere at a specific time-I just wanted to play in the parks-not waste wonderful park time.
I found it stressful and related to the whole-dessert is included so we must order it-
must utilise all the ts credits..
However-did not use all snack credits nor cs credits

The following year we had free ddp & actually tried to change it to qsdp-
but were informed we would have to pay to downgrade

Went with a totally different mentality & enjoyed more ts breakfasts and cs meals..
We used what we wanted & weren't concerned with what we didn't utilise.

We've since had both regular dining plan and quick service plans and now big fans.
I love that we don't have to watch our food purse strings whilst on vacation.
We love to eat & snack all day long-therefore it works a treat.

Total converts here.:love1:

In all fairness, we have not used the dining plan in the past. We decided against it because the heat kills our appetite on vacation, so it is cheaper for us to pay out of pocket than incur the expense of the dining plan when we definitely would not use all the credits (and we wouldnt need the dessert and drink that comes with it-if that even comes with the quick serve plan)

Also, at the end of the day, you do have to worry about what things cost because the cost will dictate the tip. So not everything is paid for and you do have to charge things at the end.

The DDP is not worth if for my bunch for reasons I have explained before.

I wanted to quote this as I wonder how many people factor this into their calculations in deciding if the plan is worth it or not based on COST alone. Ordering the steak to get your moneys worth when you would have been just as happy ordering a cheaper menu item. Getting the dessert even though you may only take a bite or two of it. Your tip is based on menu prices(cant believe some people still think its included). It could add up over an eight day vacation..

This only matters if someone orders the steak only because it is the most expensive. If people order what they would normal then their tip is the same.

Which is why, when I calculate whether or not the dining plan is worth it for a particular, trip I look at the menu and add up what I would normally order.
