With the whole DRR resort restrictions on the resale market, and the debate around resale value, it made me wonder why ppl buy small add ons.

I personally would love about an extra 25 points at the VGF to upgrade my typical stay to a lake view. In this case, I use the points at VGF almost exclusively.

We all know that small contracts fetch a premium on the resale market, but I am wondering if small DRR will catch an even bigger premium on the resale market (because the big contracts take more of a hit)

In my case with the VGF, I would not care nearly as much if the extra points were restricted, I could deal with 25 points being restricted.

If this is true in a lot of peoples minds, it makes me want to say, if buying DRR, to break up your contract into nothing more than 50 points and pay a little more in closing costs. (unless of course doing a fixed week)

Thoughts?

We used to love Boardwalk and way back when, we were adding on 75 BWV points direct. We say a great deal on a tiny 25 point resale, so we grabbed it to give us an even 100.

We just bought a 200 point Vero resale, as that's our preferred resort now. After a year, we're planning on looking at whether the 200 is enough for how much we actually stay there. If I need a few more, we'll do a small add on so we won't be in DVC point debt year after year :)

We bought our 50 point OKW contract because we wanted more points at OKW where we had 175. But we wound up with a second UY and it still isn't so easy.

We own 100 points at the Poly which consist of a 70pt and 30pt contract. We initially bought in with 70pts after the guide said that was the amount we needed for our usual stay (4 nights). He was basing this off AKL which definitely threw us off and soon enough, we realized we needed more so that’s why we bought 30 more to make it an even 100. Now I’m in the market for a small BLT contract (65pts approx) to take advantage of bigger size rooms in which I plan to bank/borrow every few years to use.

Wanted smaller contracts so after I cannot longer go and my kids take them over they can have a easier time selling them if they no longer want to go or feel they have too many points. All my points are the same UY and same DVC resort.

I initially bought 25 points direct at BCV 3 years ago in order to get the direct benefits for the Gold AP discount ($250 savings at the time per AP). I bought the minimum I needed b/c I wanted to minimize my costs. I had originally planned on picking up another 75-100 BCV via resale -- but DW was not wanting anymore points (we had just bought 280 VGF resale).

After a couple years, 25 points was not a lot of points. I could basically only book 5 nights during F&W every three years by banking/borrowing...and there's no fun in that!!!

So I convinced her to let me buy another 25 points, and this past December (luckily before the big price increase), my guide called me up and said he had some points for me (finally -- I got on the waitlist a year before).

So the initial small purchase was to get points to stay at BCV for F&W AND get direct benefits...the second small purchase was to add on # of days.

We recently bought DRR (150 points) -- and I broke that up into 100/50 contracts. I figure if we want to downgrade, the 50 point contract will fetch a premium despite the resale restrictions.

Did not vote because I seem to be incapable of adding on in tiny increments.
GO BIG OR GO HOME!!

(We originally bought to stay once a year in studios/1BR; when we "added on", we decided to add a second home resort and bought enough points to support a 1BR on average every 18 months.)
(We did by 25 points direct back when that was the amount necessary for direct benefits, but that was always part of the plan and not technically an "add on")

When we owned we had numerous small contracts, but not for any of the reasons you listed. It was strictly so we could sell easily, and as little or as much as we wanted.

We paid cash for our small add ons. We have at least 10 small ones of 25-50 points in our one UY. It’s very easy to keep track.

We also bought small contracts with same use year so we could pay for them. Always looking for more!

Our plan is to switch off, so we have the 75 at OKW direct and will try to grab 50 at Poly resale in the future. It will give us enough to do an extended family trip at OKW, and a just-us trip at Poly.
