ATTENTION!!

It has come to my attention that the moderators are starting to "crack down" on the Trip Reports Board. People are getting nice warnings to keep their TRs on topic and not stray to anything else (ie, birthdays, family stuff, daily itineraries ). These have always been the rules and people have been pretty lax about it. But I understand the work the moderators have to keep up with these TRs. So, no more will I be posting any of my "other material". Of course, I welcome everyone's comments on my trip and we can discuss anything about my trip.

BTW ~ I did not receive any warnings as of yet and hope not to. That is why I am posting this now. Thank you!

Coral Reef ~ The Appetizers

Hopes:

Since everyone was hungry, we all got full meals this time. But first things first. Gimme some of that yummy bread and butter! Or should I say butter and bread?

We loved this bread and butter. It was nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus it tasted very good. That or else we were just very hungry.

Both the boys ordered the lobster soup. I take that back. Evan wanted to try the lobster soup. Alec didn’t want any appetizer so I told him we would order him the lobster soup. That way yours truly could try it.

This lobster soup was delicious. It was in a tiny cup and I think I ate almost all of Alec’s. Evan tried it and did not care for it. Rob thought it was good too!

Next up, Brookie got the celery and carrots with ranch dip. And now is your chance to see what carrots, celery and ranch dip look like Disney style...

Rob and I both ordered the crab claws. They were served cold and we liked them fine. They weren’t spectacular but they were fine. Would we get them again? No. They just were not as good as we were expecting them to be. The lobster soup, now that is what I would get.

Okay ... enough with the appetizers ... bring on the main courses! ... just not today ...

We ate at Coral Reef YEARS ago and we were very disappointed, and never ventured back. I'm looking forward to hearing what you thought of the main entrees. We have really good seafood restaurants in our area, so something has to WOW me to want to return.

I love Italians too! *double snicker*. Not a bad idea of my cooking macaroni for you all. But then we would have to deal with the kiddos. I’d rather have a night and/or day out!

Since you 2 are the guests, you should pick! My special macaroni is actually the homemade sauce I make handed down to me from Rob's grandmother. You have to like a thin sauce to like this one. I love it!

Am looking forward to see the main courses! I just booked another trip to AKL in February with my friend Carola and we are thinking of trying some new restaurants and Coral Reef seems to be a very unique place! I am also thinking that a few table service lunches would fit our touring habits quite well. And since we are not getting the Dining Plan this time, lunch is cheaper, too! Ah, all the joy of having to plan an intinerary and decide on ADRs!!!!

How wonderful you get another trip to Disney World. Making ADRs is such a bummer for you ..... I have a couple more food reports in my TR coming up eventually.

I too got the lobster soup and thought it was yummo! Too bad the crab claws weren't that great. I love seafood!

The crab claws were fine just not as good as I was expecting. I totally love seafood too.

I really liked Coral Reef and DH did too (he wants to go back sometime).
But FYI--the new Dining Plan 2008 does not allow appetizers and tip so the crab claws would be nixed, I guess.

I don’t mind so much that the 2008 DDP doesn’t include appetizers but it bothers me that it does not include gratuities. That is such a big difference not to include both.

Like both Marrakesh and Biergarten--BA danced at both of them!

I will definitely have to consider one of them for next time. Rob & I already have been to Marrakesh before kiddos.

DM, I am LOVING your installments. I LOVED your photopass pics at MGM. I laughed SO hard at that last one! I actually don't mind playing catch up here because I get such a big dose of DM, when I'm used to reading small updates at a time and hanging on for dear life waiting for more!

The MGM PhotoPass pics were my favorite for family memories.

Lobster soup = yum

crab claws = yuck.

I do not like crab cold. Well I was going to decide about Coral reef using your suggestion but you did not finish so now it is off my list. It is probably better this way. Unless the entrées are so delicious.

I like cold crab but this just was not up to par, according to my fine palate. I don’t think missing Coral Reef is a big deal. You made a good decision.

Mornin' DM. My cookies on the subbed list went nutty yesterday, and I didn't read your update until late last night. I couldn't figure out why people were talking about crab claws - my "first unread" went beyond that!

Anyway, the food pictures were good. I'm not so much a fish/seafood person, though I'm getting better now that I can get fresh, so I never even considered Coral Reef. Probably still won't, but it's fun to read about.

Moving right along to the entrees ...

Evan ordered the mac and cheese. He said he liked it and ate it almost all up. Hey! I just noticed Brookie's face in that picture!

Because we were in a seafood dining establishment, Alec ordered the pizza! Yes, I make no sense here. Just trying to liven up the food porn. He liked it and ate it all up. But that's not saying much because he is not too picky with his pizza. Case in point ... he likes the yucky square slices of school pizza!

Brookie really likes chicken. So we ordered her the mahi-mahi. Does that make sense? We figured it would look like chicken and she could try something new. When I went to take the picture, I caught this ...

Now you are probably thinking. Wow! She must love broccoli. Actually, she did take a bite out of it and then placed it on Rob’s plate. My next picture was this ... mahi-mahi with mashed potatoes.

Rob and I both ordered the mahi-mahi with Israeli couscous.

I’ll have to say that we both were not impressed. It really lacked any flavor. I really love seafood and this definitely was not good in my opinion. I ate just over half of it. That was fine with me. I did have Alec’s lobster soup and my own crab claws. And there still was dessert to order!
