why do they call GWB the shrub?

I'll assume it's because his name is Bush. But it's insulting regardless.

I think it was started cause his daddy was the Big Bush and he's the little Bush, hence Shrub...............

Because they don't like him and wish to be disrespectful.

Probably similar to the reasons they call Bill Clinton "Slick Willy". It's politics and name calling has, unfortunately, become a big part of it.

Disrespectful people.

If someone wanted to be disrepectful I can think of a lot worse things to call him than shrub.

So any level of disrepect is okay?

Sure why not? The Swiftboat commercials do. Is this what we refer to as "free speech"? Or does free speech only apply when we agree with the people who we currently agree with?

Was President Bush a man who found a way out of Viet Nam? If a Democrat had the same history and he was running against Senator Dole, wouldn't he be classified by the right wing as a "draft dodger"?

It's all relative isn't it?

Name calling is just about the most childish thing to come out of any political discussion, debate or what-have-you. It's fine for the various parties to disagree and point out the other's failures/problems, but to lower themselves to name calling is just very silly.

Shrub=Small Bush

As has been noted earlier, it's disrespectful.

Of course, the President has been called much worse--with the approval of Kerry and Edwards (I'm referring to the Whoopi Goldberg incident).

Just because both sides are guilty of it, doesn't make it right. It's silly and immature, disrespectful and takes away from the issues at hand.

I have never called a President any insulting names and I never would.

I don't condone name calling by anyone but I have to ask why I'm obligated to respect the man? If someone wants respect they need to earn it.

No one says you have to respect anyone.

When did it become acceptable to call the people names--whether or not you respect them? It's childish.

I have virtually no respect for John Kerry. But I'd never call him names. Should he be elected, I'll refer to him as President Kerry--even if I do disagree with him.

I go back to my familiar refrain... calling someone disrespectful names speaks not to the character of the target, but rather to the character of the one using such names.
