While sitting in line to pick up the kids from school, I watched 3 people drive right past 2 cops, do something illegal and then get mad when they got a ticket.
Two of these people drove right past a cop that was double parked because he was telling people that they needed to move their cars because they were in a "no parking zone". When these two people got to the corner (less than 50 feet from the cop) they made a left turn at an intersection that is clearly marked "no left turn from 2:30-4:00". It was about 3:00. The cop backed up and gave both of them tickets. The lady behind me was arguing and refused to give the cop her license and insurance card. He finally told her that he would arrest her if she didn't.
While all of this is going on, a third car drives past the cop that issuing the tickets and proceeds to enter the school parking lot through the exit that again is clearly marked (Exit only. No Left turn). A second cop drives past all of us and goes after her. She gets upset that he had the nerve to give her a ticket.
As you can imagine, pick-up is a frustrating time. There are over 400 elementary kids that do not get a bus so there are a lot of parents picking up. There is only one road in/out of the school and it's surrounded by a large park on 2 sides.
One of the ladies that got a ticket called the school to complain. She demanded to talk to the principal to find out why they feel it's necessary to call the police to enforce the rules. She didn't think that it was fair that she was going to have to pay the $75 ticket!
People need to realize that these rules are in place to protect the children!
I told my DH that they deserved two tickets. One for what they did wrong and a second one for driving right past the cops thinking that the laws didn't apply to them.
