WHY do people like Bobby Flay?

What restaurant/chef? :listen:

I think it was the season premiere. These two brothers, Kent and Kevin Rathbun battled Bobby Flay with elk. The second I heard "elk," I knew it was all over. :lmao: The two brothers almost never utter a word to each other....it's as if they read each other's minds. That's a bit of an advantage. Plus, once you get a look at them, if they don't beat you fair and square on cooking, they could just crush your bones. :rotfl: :scared:

Between the two of them, they own Rathbun's, Rathbun's Steakhouse, Abacus and Jasper's. The score was close, but I think the judges were generous to Bobby Flay. The Rathbuns were simply in their element and he wasn't. Elk, you know? :woohoo:

I think this link will work. It has clips of highlights and is about 6 minutes long. You have to wait several seconds and then in the upper right corner, a link will appear (View Kent's Iron Chef Highlights) and you click on that. There's one on Kevin's website too, but I preferred this one.

ITA with the OP. I liked him at one time, but he was such a cry baby when he was a challenger on the original Iron Chef. He demanded and got rematch. During it he acted like a arrogant pompous donkey's rear end.

True that. That's when I started hating him. I don't care if you're joking, know your audience. Entirely inappropriate and disrespectful to behave the way he did in Japan in their stadium.

Why does he always seem to have a big old cold sore on his lip? Always! Ewww! I just can't watch him.

I have always enjoyed him, but I have never watched Iron Chef, so maybe thats why. I like his throwdown show and I really enjoy his grilling show when his wife is on with him, they make a cute couple!

I like Bobby Flay. I think he is extremely talented. I do think he has mellowed with age. I love watching him on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. He is always very respectful to the people he competes with and makes a point to compliment their food. I think his reputation took a beating when he jumped on the cutting board after he competed on Iron Chef in Japan. I honestly think he was kidding around, but he offended many people.

That was it for me. I think he has mellowed but I still don't like him.

He exudes confidence, which is a quality I like in a man. On Throwdown he has always been polite to his opponent. I think he has matured since his Iron Chef fiasco.

I find Tyler Florence to be a lot more attractive... and he has a great personality!!

Tyler Florence is such a flirt!!! He used to do that show where he went to your house and did "food emergencies", where he taught the women how to cook. He'd be behind the woman and reach over seductively "Here, let me get that pepper shaker, for you." :happytv: All the while rubbing up against them. It was so fun to watch.

::yes::

This is what killed it for me.

But, I have to say- I haven't seen anything else SO awful since then. Maybe he learned a lesson?

The owner/chef from a restaurant we like battled Bobby Flay on Iron Chef and won. He never stood a chance. It was a thing of beauty. :thumbsup2

I don't care one way or the other about Bobby Flay....this chef just whooped him. :lmao:

That's very rare. I specifically hate that show because the Iron Chef winning percentage is about 92%

Same with throw-down, Bobby wins about 90% of those as well.

I don't really dislike Bobby Flay, but he is a bit arrogant. I do believe he is one of the true "cooks" on the Food Network. He is married to his third wife, I believe, the one from Law & Order. Paula's cackle does grate on my nerves and she just reuses old recipes from 30-40 years ago that my mother used. If I have to see her husband in the kitchen with her one more time....he's a bore.

I don't know what has happened to the Food Network and sadly, I rarely watch it any more. It has changed so much, and not for the better. I have had my fill of Paula and Rachael. They were good when they first started, but now they are just too much to take.

The judges on the "Next Food Network Star" are all obnoxious, but they are just the same as all judges on all the other reality shows. Guess they think they are entertaining. I have to congratulate Amy Finley (last season's winner) for giving it up to follow her dream.

I don't find him arrogant, I was thinking more of a "flat" personality..not much to it at all.

He's not gay, he has been married a few times and has a daughter. His latest wife is Stephanie March who played Alex the DA on Law and Order.

I never saw him during the early Iron Chefs, so I haven't seen the ego in overdrive. I did see him talk back to a judge named Jeffrey but that guy sooooo deserved it.

I love Throwdown. He sets his ego aside for that one and his female assistants knock him down beautifully.

Really? I have yet to see one where he's won.

Me neither. I'm not a fan of his per se, but I do like throwdown. I find him to be very gracious on that show.

I would say he wins throwdown about 15-20% of the time. No way is it 90%.

I also agree with the PP that said that maybe he learned his lesson with the Iron Chef fiasco. Maybe he just eally dislikes Morimoto or something LOL.

He gets on my nerves, and I really think he might be gay. I have a few friends in the restaurant biz.....and they think his orientation is....ambiguous.

Hmm...a Tony Bourdain fan who doesn't like Bobby Flay? Who'da thunk it? ;)

One of my wife's best friends tended bar for Bobby Flay some time ago (won't name the restaurant to protect the innocent) and he is 100% not gay. However, from what she says, Flay is a bigger prick IRL that he appears on TV. As far as his talent, he's alright, but definitely not on par with the better chefs of Manhattan...
