Why do people leave shopping carts in the parking lot?

So in conclusion, people leave carts in the parking lot because ...

You forgot about physical disabilities.
Respectfully :teeth: could we amend that (in the future, NOT go back and re-edit the quoted post) to pain/physical inability? Because at least a couple of us here who are disabled to some degree do still return carts :)

Using the "helping the employment" excuse is like saying that I'm just going to throw my thrash onto the ground when I'm in a store because they hire janitors to clean it up...I'm going to break into a persons house to keep the police employed...Break my leg so that way the ER doctors stay employed...have lots of children to keep day cares in business....need more?
I disagree. Your comparisons aren't apples for apples. Littering is illegal. Leaving your buggy where it sits is NOT illegal. Breaking and entering is illegal also, and punishable by prison. Breaking your leg to go to the hospital would just be stupid. Sorry, that response just dont hold water.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: Having lots of children is already spoken for by the food stamps / welfare crowd. You can't use that one. You gotta try harder than that!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Buggy retrieval is a legitimate job that many stores have an ACTUAL position JUST FOR. That's almost all they do, all day.

I hope everyone here realizes that my responses are meant to be comical. If I REALLY got upset over something so silly as shopping carts I'd have to evaluate whether or not I needed medication. I'm just having fun on this thread.

Am I the only one who just leaves my kids in the cart or have them stand by me while I unload groceries and then take them to the cart corral with me? My kids will play outside in 5° weather. They can stand outside for a few extra minutes while I unload and return the cart.

NOW I have heard everything! Some people don't return their carts because they are afraid that their children will be kidnapped? In the 30 seconds it takes to return the cart? Wow. That takes "Better safe than sorry!" to a whole new level.

OK ... here is something we can all laugh at ... The Cart Whisperer:

It takes 30 seconds to go inside the gas station and prepay for gas, would you leave your child in the car then?

I went to Walmart tonight and I counted the number of corrals in my row. There were two. I am assuming all Walmarts are the same and have ginormous parking lots. Yes, I was thinking of this thread while at the store and yes I know its sad :rotfl:

No, because they'd be probably out of sight and it would probably take longer. Two different scenarios.

I'm talking about 20 to 30 feet and under 30 seconds.

A friend of mine got the police called on her by Town Watch. Two little ones sound asleep in their car seats, she locked the door, pumped the gas, tried to use the credit card thing, would not allow her, it was broken. She ran inside to pay watching her kids the entire time. A Town Watch patrol person saw it and called the cops, she got pulled over about a block away. The cop reamed her until she told him the pay outisde thing was broken, he then let her off with a warning.

Just two? Ours has two per row! I wonder why so few in yours.

In my town, I would. In that scenario, I'd still lock it, but yes I would do it -- to slap down the money. Any longer or more than that, no. I was just never one to leave my kids in the car.

Maybe the Town Watch patrol person should have just watched and waited to see if a real crime was committed.

Actually, a few years ago, a woman was at a Costco here on LI. It was a hot summer day, put the AC on in the car, strapped her child into his or her seat, loaded the car, and went to put the cart in the corral, and someone took the car! Luckily he didn't get far, and nothing happened to the child. (he noticed the kid, left the car in a nearby lot.)

So it's rare, but it does happen.

I heard that all AIG Execs always leave the carts wherever they feel like it. :rolleyes1

The same thing can happen in front of your house. Her mistake was not locking the car while it was running with a kid inside. Of course having the keys on her and not looking the kid in the car with the keys. She could of just rolled down the window for the 5 seconds it took her to return the cart.

LOL I was thinking of the thread yesterday while I was at shoprite.

People complain about cart pusher losing their jobs if they return their cart like I had posted before my store has the $.25 cart system. Yesterday they had 2 cart guys out there getting carts from the corrals. There goes the theory is everyone put the cart away people would be out of a job:rolleyes:

They will always need a cart person to bring them in

At the local Wal-Marts there are always 2 or 3 people gathering carts-1 gets them from the corral and the other 2 walk through the lot picking up the strays. So if everyone did put the carts in the corral, people would lose jobs.

If those people weren't out in the parking lot chasing renegade carts, they would have more time to bag my groceries so I would not have to do it myself. No one is losing a job because you put your cart in the corral - really.

We must live in a prosperous area because our stores have baggers and people who get the carts.
