when there is a perfectly good enclosed backyard outfitted with a junglegm, toys, and a motorized car or 2?

...because they like to make us Mom's crazy with worries about getting hit by cars, picked up by strangers, etc....and from what I hear, it gets worse as they get older too!

My kids are the same way. I think it's because if you are in the front your friends can see that you're out and come and join you.

What's even worse is that we have a beautiful backyard with a brick patio and nice patio furniture and we sit in the driveway all summer on cheap plastic stacking chairs. It's kind of an invitation for all the neighbors to join you. If we are sitting in the backyard nobody knows we're out there. :D

Those silly "Yard Apes"!!!

Mine do the same thing;) The grass is always greener on the other side of the enclosed gate!

We have built styles to get from backyard to backyard so everyone in our neighborhood goes out the back to see who is out! The exception is bike riding, so we sit on the yucky plastic charis then!

BTW, I used to like the alley at that age. :teeth:

That was the best!! I loved mine with the exception that it was the animal graveyard. Our cat killed a bird and squirrel and so my father thought it only fitting that the cat got a warrior's burial with his conquests!

In subdivision land there are no alleys, I miss them!

I guess that is similar to why kids sometime play in the big box a toy might come in more than the toy that was in it...:jester:

Because it's the attraction of the street? :confused3 I used to love playing in the alley at my grandparents' house! I loved their house...period!

I have the opposite problem. I want my kids out front and they always seem to go out back. We have a creek going through our back yard and a bunch of woods out there that I dont like the kids near. I dont mind them playing in the front yard, the street(very safe cul de sac, only 4 houses on it), or the field across from us while I sit out there with them. However they always seem to end up running in back whenI dont feel like chasing them down. ;)

My kids want to play driveway hockey, draw with chalk and ride bikes/scooters. They can't do that in the backyard.

I usually start off outside with them..in the front yard. After a while, either when I get bored, run out of work to do outside or need to get something done inside, I make them switch to the backyard (fully fenced).

My neighbor across the street is that way. She has every toy you can imagine for her little boy in the backyard yet she hangs out in front. She puts out a blanket and sits on it all day watching her son. The son always wants to go in the backyard but she doesn't. I keep DD in the backyard mostly as she is safest there and has all her stuff there.
