Why do I feel like I am being punished by DVC for buying resale?

I'm all for making fun arguments and trying to find loopholes in contractual language -- it's what I do for a living. But in this case, I'm not sure what the point of engaging in semantics and unreasonable interpretations of potentially vague/ambiguous language. It's ultimately an exercise in futility.

As Dean has stated before, DVC can change membership extras at any point going forward. So even if someone could do a bunch of legal gamesmanship to make a case for gold passes not being a membership extra, but something else, then DVC could just make it explicit and end the discussion right then. As such, this all seems pointless.
Whatever.... the fact that it's also available to Florida residents makes it not a discount, but rather a different grade of pass that DVC Members can purchase. Are resale purchasers not DVC Members?
Now as I've said before, the *discount* on Premium passes are a different story.

it's on the website -- but I believe it clearly says it's available to DVC members and FL residents. My understanding is that new resale purchasers are no longer considered "members."

But again -- this is all pointless.
Really?? New resale buyers are not Members??

There are qualifications on the website...it says...

Price for Disney Vacation Club Members

Item(s) are priced for Disney Vacation Club Members only. For these items, you must show a valid Disney Vacation Club Membership ID at the park entrance to pick up your tickets or passes.

I don't think the white cards are considered DVC membership IDs. I could be wrong -- but who knows. They could fix the ambiguity by saying that you must show a valid BLUE DVC membership ID.

Nothing there says post 4/? are not DVC Members.
The difference is the "Extras".

Why do you keep insisting that it has to be a discount for it to matter?

Having access to a perk is also a benefit. Discounts aren't the only type of benefit.

It only needs to be considered a membership benefit extra.

Would you agree that having ACCESS to something is considered an extra benefit?

For example, ACCESS to the DVC epcot lounge. That's not a discount -- but access to a perk.

Similarly, having ACCESS to purchase the gold pass -- which is normally only available to FL residents -- is certainly a member benefit.

Basically -- if your maintenance fees do not cover the expenses/benefit of what you want (dining discounts, AP discounts, ACCESS to types of APs, or access to club lounges) -- then they are considered extra membership benefits and as such, post 4/4 resale does not benefit.

I was only going off the official page of listed "Membership Extras" that was posted in this thread. A Gold Pass was not on the list.

that was just the dining discounts. It also didn't talk about the epcot lounge or any of the membership parties either.
*edit -- nevermind -- it has other stuff on it too...

No.... it listed a everything. Look again. It's several pages.

that flyer is certainly ambiguous.

What's weird is that the pool hopping, dvd rental and TOTWL access are listed amongst all the other extra benefits. Certainly does not do a good job of explaining anything.

I don't have a dog in this fight, so I'm truly calling it as I see it (sold my DVC a few years back).
We bought somewhere around 2200 points from DVD in the form of 21 contracts. We opted to sell for a few reasons that I won't get into.
That said, We have considered buying in again. We would only do resale, as the so called "perks" are a joke.

Disclaimer: we are Florida residents so pass discounts mean nothing to us.

But annual passes are and Gold passes are listed under annual passes on the DVC and Disney Website. They use the terms Annual Passes AND WDW passes. We've already seen at least one member that was not allowed to buy the pass and had to do a retail add on to do so. That alone doesn't prove it but is highly suggestive that DVC & DVD's interpretation is one must have qualified points. I'm sure we'll see some inconsistency for a while, it's a Disney trademark.

It may take time for those with non qualified points only to give us enough volume of info to be certain. The easiest way to tell is for those with non qualified points only to go into the Disney (not DVC) side and see if the pass options shows up. You'd do this by signing in to your MDE account then go to the link for passes then Gold Passes. If one has the ability to buy them or not, it should be obvious once you get to the order page if not before. I'm not sure how it'd show up since we're also FL residents. When I sign in with my MDE account which is linked to DVC, it gives me a toggle for FL resident Gold Passes and one for DVC Gold Passes. When I sign in with my wife's MDE account not linked to DVC, it only shows me the FL resident options. I wonder what those see who own DVC non qualified only and are not FL resident's.

Apparently some other posters earlier in the thread said they can see the gold pass option when logged into the Disney website even though they are post 4/4 resale buyers. At this point I don't think any of them has actually completed a purchase online and activated said pass which is what sparked the conversation.

you're fortunate. I had the exact opposite experience. Back in 2012, my iphone 4 stopped working as a phone after having it for 13 months. Took it in, and they smugly told me I didn't have apple care and there was nothing they could/would do. Called AMEX and they refunded me my money. Now that's a company with great service!

Ended up buying a samsung phone (which I hated. Ultimately ended up back with apple and have been pleased with them since. But their smugness back in 2012 was horrific. I think they have since realized that samsung is a serious player.
I called up the main office after I went to the store and was told it was going to be $300. The guy in the store didn't really seem to care.

Certainly seeing them listed and being able to actually purchase them are 2 different things. The method I quoted will allow you to purchase them if you see them. I didn't review but I got the impression they were simply seeing it listed as a perk under their DVC account. Now it's possible one could purchase a Gold pass and be shut out at activation, that certainly is possible with a FL resident pass or ticket. And there will be a transition. I think it's a certainty that there will be some examples of both answers early on.
