Why do I feel like I am being punished by DVC for buying resale?

Regardless, the only reasonable way to read the aggregate of the info is that they require a member ID card and the implication is a qualified one. Time will tell.
I agree the only way to know for certain is to see what happens in the long run. I expect a mixed bag initially, then complaints, then DVC scrambling to come up with firm policy.

If I paid direct point prices, I would have too.
I think the point Kathy was making was you would have to meet the requirements of the same legal address to get the discount in this situation.

I too expect a mixed bag but for the reason that the right hand often doesn't know what the left hand is doing then they'll get it straightened out and no more discounts for non qualified owners.

I know Dean, I was just making a joke. It's even funnier since I don't think my FIL will ever step foot on Disney World much less buy DVC.

I doubt you lost anything near what you saved.

To my understanding, it has not yet been determined if you still qualify for a gold AP.... which is truly the best perk.

MG

you definitely do not get access to gold AP without a direct membership or pre-4/4 resale. I was post 4/4 resale and couldn't get the gold AP -- then I did a direct 25 point contract and that allowed me to purchase the gold AP online.

I know you were joking but wasn't sure if you knew the requirement. Moreover, and more important, some of us tend to write for who might read a thread more than the person being responded to and that's definitely true in my case.

I'm a post 4/2016 resale owner, and I can also purchase the $549.00 Gold AP on the website. My profile on the MDE website shows me as a DVC member, so that is why I think it allows me to purchase the Gold AP at this time. It could be a loophole or just bad web design. But the problem comes when you have to pick it up with the "white" membership card.

That's interesting...It never gave me the option on the website until after I bought my 25 point direct purchase.

Okay, again. I knew what was happening. I knew what I was losing. So don't wonder about that. I did my homework. Disney was TELLING ME I was going to lose benefits. My problem/annoyance was that Disney has somehow managed to make DVC into 2 clubs. You've got the direct and the resale post perks loss people. And as I said over and over again in this thread, I am simply bummed that those perks were not on the table anymore. The way that the sales department interacted with me in general. It just seemed very "undisney" to me. Emphasis on "to me." - subjective. Its simply the way I feel. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse with a stick right now.

People I am not an idiot. I was simply reaching out to see what others experiences were with this. And I learned stuff so I don't regret it, but, wow, I am ready to delete my profile and go back to idiot land where I apparently came from.

I guess the confusion amongst the commentariat is that you are complaining a full 9 months after the policy changed. It's just very odd timing.

Can you point to something in writing that says no to the Gold at resale?? It doesn't seem to be there.

I would think that Disney would help them out with the discounted AP, since it probably would cause people to increase the amounts of visits to the parks.

Just a side note, just had my iPad die after 1 year, 3 months. 3 months after the warranty was up, I complained about the replacement cost $300, after spending $500 last year. The nice apple tech replaced my iPad for free after seeing that I have several apple products. Before that I was thinking of switching over to a Microsoft Surface or lesser pad replacement, but after Apple took care of me, I'll be buying an IPad again in the future. That is creating brand loyalty, that people don't forget.

you're fortunate. I had the exact opposite experience. Back in 2012, my iphone 4 stopped working as a phone after having it for 13 months. Took it in, and they smugly told me I didn't have apple care and there was nothing they could/would do. Called AMEX and they refunded me my money. Now that's a company with great service!

Ended up buying a samsung phone (which I hated. Ultimately ended up back with apple and have been pleased with them since. But their smugness back in 2012 was horrific. I think they have since realized that samsung is a serious player.

I'm all for making fun arguments and trying to find loopholes in contractual language -- it's what I do for a living. But in this case, I'm not sure what the point of engaging in semantics and unreasonable interpretations of potentially vague/ambiguous language. It's ultimately an exercise in futility.

As Dean has stated before, DVC can change membership extras at any point going forward. So even if someone could do a bunch of legal gamesmanship to make a case for gold passes not being a membership extra, but something else, then DVC could just make it explicit and end the discussion right then. As such, this all seems pointless.

I was assuming his parents were DVC direct members that lived in the same state as him. Now that I see another one of his posts, he was saying they live in a different state, so my plan wouldn't work.

In Texas, where I live, I can change the address of my license online for a fee of $25. If my parents lived in Texas and had DVC membership, then I could change my address on my license to their home address in order to show that I lived with the DVC member (I can't remember if I have to be a dependent to qualify for APs though...so this might not even work). Once I got my license with the parent's address, I could then get online and change my address back to my real address.

When picking up the AP, I would just use my parent's DVC card and my incorrectly addressed ID.

Well.... yes. The fact that it is available to DVC Members without a qualification.

MG

it's on the website -- but I believe it clearly says it's available to DVC members and FL residents. My understanding is that new resale purchasers are no longer considered "members."

But again -- this is all pointless.

wouldn't this be illegal?
