Why do I feel like I am being punished by DVC for buying resale?

Just browsing this thread makes me scratch my head. Just call up membership services and get a definitive answer.. All of the conjecture, preparation to whine in person, etc. makes no sense. Life is too short to stress of something (Disney) that is supposed to be fun.

Gosh, I hadn't thought of that. Good idea. Thanks for setting us straight!

See that's what's confusing. I was able to purchase the gold AP. I should not have been able to purchase it if I'm not eligible. I'll have to call tomorrow and see what the eligibility is. If it is an error on the website Disney should really honor my purchase. There is no mention of direct sale on the ticket page. First the gold AP wa not there. Then it said sign in if you're a Disney vacation club member. I signed in and gold AP is there. So isn't discounted platinum pass.

The website isn't the final line of verification for many tickets and passes. Florida resident for one. In CA it's CA or S. Cal tickets and passes. There are several things that people could buy online and Disney knows that so they have the final verification onsite when looking at ID's and membership cards.

Which MS number do you call for definitive answers, when I call I seem to get different answers each time that I ask a question.

So what about the platinum pass? After signing in it is discounted and does not say for Florida residents or dvc members only. BUT when you move on to the next screen it gives you an option for products and prices for all guests or for dvc members.

No, I get it. But what is crazy is if assuming I was not a dvc member by direct sale or resale if I clicked on the link where it says they offer discounted passes for Florida residents and dvc members I wouldn't be able to complete the process any further. By linking my MDE with my DVC it automatically brings up the discounted tickets. I can't see how this hasn't been an issue since 4/4. I would have thought a resale member would have already ran into this issue. And I think Disney would have already had a lot of headaches regarding this. I'll update tomorrow after I call. Crossing my fingers!

I'm not sure what you're asking? The behavior of the forms is a little different because anyone can purchase a Platinum pass but, as I interpret the rules, they apply the same to Gold passes and discounted Platinum passes. I think you're seeing the discounted price for the Platinum pass initially because the system recognizes you as a DVC member. The same reason that you can see the Gold pass as an option.

Why would anyone expect to get a straight and correct answer by calling? I believe that would be a first in Disney history.

If you go to the Disney World website, not the DVC website, it doesn't have this disclaimer. Even when you add it to your cart to buy online. This is the reason for all the confusion.

Definitive answer- Good one! LOL

As noted, Disney is nothing if not inconsistent. But with this change it'd be understandable to get different answers. It'll likely take a year or more for MS to get it straight consistently. And I'm sure we'll see some get told no and some allowed to buy the pass along the way but the end result I believe will be that technically non qualified members won't have access to the pass. It is possible to buy a FL resident ticket but be denied usage when one goes to activate it, I've seen it happen. The problem for those who buy them is they may get an OK when they call and be denied when they to go activate them though I still think calling is the best starting point. Personally if I were worried about it, I'd call the voting rep rather than MS.

Confirmed this morning that as a resale purchaser I am not eligible for any discounted pass or gold pass. Spoke to cast member at dvc then spoke to a supervisor. Said I would have been told when I went to activate them and would have had to pay the difference of what I paid and the regular price platinum pass.

And that might affect your choices completely. For those that bought them and it does, they might be able to get it refunded. For those that it doesn't change their choice, they can still try when they go to activate them. This was the ultimate answer I expected though I still bet we see some who get different answers and possibly some who are successful activating them. Taken as a whole, it was clear this was the intent.
