Why do cats follow you into the bathroom?

my cat is the same way . . . .paws the door open --

must be in the genes -- LOL :cat: :cat:

Heck, we had to change out the doorknobs on our guest bath & bedrooms because Millie (the redheaded bengal below) would open the doors and stroll in on unsuspecting guests.

Now if she'd only learn to use the potty and flush... :rotfl2:

Because they really own the homes, we just pay the bills LOL
Both cats are pretty bad about it, especially if DH is showering. When I first go in there each AM tink runs in to greet me and get her first petting of the day.

Besides the opportunity for "wild water" (so much better than what is in their bowl or fountain :teeth: ), our cats seem to really be fascinated with our using the "people box". I think they're trying to figure out the flush mechanism so they don't have to dig in the sand in their box...

Dogs trot right along to the bathroom, too. Spider waits on the fluffy rug right next to the shower door until I step out. Doesn't ever go with DH....I wonder why? :scratchin (I may not want to know.)

Yes,I agree with Buckylarue on this one.Two of my six cats like to utilize the tub and sink while I'm going potty and then they want to watch it while it flushes down......Mmmm,go figure.

My cat wants the flushing water to drink. He plays with it to. yuk!

They enjoy laughing at our humanity and wonder how such odd creatures could be their pets.

We have a serious cats-in-the-bathroom issue in our house. The bathroom door does not "click" shut (and I've been waiting for Daxx to fix it). The cats always push it open and the worst time ... when you're sitting down and doing your business. So, there one of us is ... on the toilet w/the door wiiiiiide open b/c the cats don't know how to close it once they're in.

Drives me insane!!!!!!!!!

Both my cats do this. One more than the other. The oldest one even gets a head start in the morning by pawing at the glass shower doors. She will sit in there while I shower and as soon as I turn off the water, she leaves (I usually leave the door open a bit).

Miss Tiggie loves to see Mommy on the Potty. :teeth: I guess because she was raised in the bathroom when she was a Kitten. :confused3 I would sit in the potty and pet each kitten when they were in thier cardboard box. :p I had an older Cat Tonto, a red Marmalade that would love to see the toilet flush! ;) Hiis head would "swirl around" in the same direction of the water! :woohoo: :confused3 :teeth:

LOL. I have one cat in particular who always follows me into the bathroom. I don't get it! I can understand them following me in the kitchen because there's food there.
And heaven forbid I should close the bathroom door! They hate that!

For us, they know it's the perfect time to catch us still and to get a bit of extra loving. Tinkerbelle loves to watch the toilet flush for whatever reason. Every since she was a kitten, she'd race in when she hears the "dunk" of the lid hitting the back of the tank. This from my priss that hates water.....

LOL--- I thought my cat was NUTS!! my other cats only liked to be in the bathroom when I was there and the sink was on a bit. Now my new cat--- he could live in the bathroom if I didn't shut the door!!! He hates that, but he'll sit there for hours if the door is open. the other guys just walk by and check that he is there and then go where the humans are.

but I love everyones stories about the door opening!!! :rotfl2:

My personal theory is their afraid we're going to drown in the bathroom or melt from all the water in there.

I imagine my cats saying:

"Oh man, she's in trouble again. She's going in the dreaded water room. Oh no, now she's in the shower stall. I'd go in there to save her but, I'm not risking myself. She should know better by now. Stupid humans."

I have 4 cats and one or more of them always follows me. I don't shower alone or even pee alone. :teeth: I don't mind, except for when they almost fall in the toilet.

We put a cat door in our bathroom door. Can shut the door and the cats still have access. Also keeps the dog out of the kitty pan when she visits for the summer.
We had one cat the loved to bathe with me. Jumped in the tub everytime I took a bath. Our present cats aren't that brave but will sit on the side of the tub and play with the water or try to drink it dry. I'm not allowed in the bathroom without at least 1 cat and often it is 3 or 4 depending on who is in residence. (Daughter brings her animals for summers when she is off at music camps and workshops)

Foxy will paw open the bathroom door if one of us is in there. She'll curl up in the sink or sit by the edge of the tub while I take a bath.

The best was when DH invested in this huge purified cat water fountain because tap water wasn't good enough for his cat. Of course I come home to find Foxy drinking from the toilet :rotfl:

:lmao:

yep, 2 cats, 3 kids...never alone

::yes:: Yep, our cats follow us in everytime too! I don't even close the door anymore, I leave it open a crack so they can get in. Otherwise they'll be scratching at the carpet. And I always have an audience when getting out of the shower.

I think cats like the bathroom because it's cool. Mine love to sleep in the sink. Here is a funny website:
