My wife and I were driving out of Disney on SR536 and saw the
DVC billboard after a day at one of the parks and I asked her if she knew anything about it as we tended to avoid the kiosks thinking that DVC was a traditional time share. She did not know much about it from her brief time as a cast member, but did mention that you could use the points towards a
DCL cruise. That set the hook, as we are cruisers.
Needless to say, I researched DVC online and we set up an apointment for a tour and purchased into it a week later. While the original reason for giving it a look did not pan out to be the deal we were hoping, we discovered an opportunity that we could not pass up.
We live about 5 or 6 miles from Disney property and spend several days a month visiting the parks and resorts. On several occasions, we would rent a room on property for a night or two. You can not beat the value and flexibility that DVC brings. We have gone from 2 cruises a year down to 1 with several DVC stays a year. The cost of one cuise per year easily covers all of our annual DVC expenses even if you include the cost of meals while on a DVC stay. With a minimum of a microwave oven and refrigerator in every DVC room, we can eat a meal or two a day out of the room and save even more.
The absolute kicker is the nights we spend in the EPCOT DVC resorts during the food and wine festival. We have 50 BWV points in addition to our SSR points which grants us 11 month access to book our annual Food and Wine Festival stay. It sure beats having to drive back home after a day of sampling and limiting your intake.
