Why Did You Join Dvc

:wizard: GO TO DISNEY TWICE A YEAR ANY WAY MIGHT AS WELL STAY AT DVC BETTER THAN MOST PLACES WE HAVE STAYED OUTSIDE THE DISNEY RESORTS
This post could be a bit confusing to some. DVC resorts ARE onsite Disney resorts.

Love of Disney and once BCV was built, we knew it was home.

We were previous YC visitors, and at the time we signed up, we had a trip planned to YC that would have cost about $3K - our guide informed us that the $3K would be the same amount as our down payment and he got us a room at BCV for the same time.

It was destiny!

We joined for a few reasons.

1) We wanted the extra space the timeshare units provide. We never stay in hotels, way to cramped. When you live in a 5500 square foot house you just have trouble being cramped like that.

2) We love WDW and plan on visiting 1-2 times for the foreseeable future.

3) We could afford this luxury of staying on site.

We would not have joined if :

1) We wanted to stay in a studio.

2) We planned on trading out frequently

3) If we had to finance the buy in.

4) Were happy staying off site.

It has been great for us but I WOULD NOT recommend it for many.

Thanks, hopefully I can take advantage of this narrow window of opportunity in the future. Too late for 2006, as I was there for 4 days already. :sad2:

I joined because growing up we lived in California and Florida so I knew how magical it was a child. When I had children I knew we had to get there. So one year I just told my (ex) husband that we were going in Jan and that I would work out the finances. Well, needless to say, we bought that next Feb. When he left me that May I told him I wanted the membership and that I would pay for it all. I wanted it as much as my kids!! Anyways, since then I have added on and now we have 350 points so we are pretty happy for now!! But, anyways, back to the reason, (-I swear I have ADD!!)-I bought it because it was a way to always know we would be going to Disney. I wanted that little magic in my kids eyes for as long as possible and I love it too!! My friends all say I just haven't grown up. What?? I love it and I am going until I leave this world!!

We bought for a few reasons. Had been staying at Port Orleans for quite a few years when the kids were smaller. One year we stayed at Disney Institute and had one of the condo buildings and loved it. We had 2 bedrooms and lots of living space. Also 3 bathrooms!!! The next year only 3 of us were going and I looked at Boardwalk because I love the feel of it. Well we loved it but it was the most expensive vacation so far and only 3 of us used it. But of course we were hooked. While waiting for dinner at Cape May I started talking to the DVC rep and listened to a short version of Disney Vacation Club. When I realized what I had spent on this vacation and what DVC cost it just made sense to buy. We went home and talked friends into buying with us so we could vacation long after the boys were gone. Of course we have added on twice and have ended up with 600 points and that feels just about right.

So I guess the reasons are:
All the DVC resorts are beautiful and make you feel just a little more like own something ( I don't think I want to say magical because we don't think of them that way) special. Like a Florida vacation.

We love it that their is very good transportation if we don't want to use our car. We feel so special when we drive throught those gates. We usually stay at OKW or BWV.

Not many people talk about the safety of WDW. To me this is one of my top reasons to go and having a timeshare there is #1 on my list. I can let my teenage kids go to the pool, play tennis and many other places now thanks to cell phones.

Last I think is the cost. It may seem expensive but I can't say I've ever priced out other timeshares. When I leave my vacation I love getting that room bill and it usually is under $100.00. Sure beats the year it was over $4,000.00.

We joined simply because we were also going 2-3 times a year anyway, so we knew we loved Disney and did not seem to get burned out on it. The kids are grown now and they still love WDW and DVC gives us a great way to take and spend time with our family. :cool1:

Reasons that pushed me "over the edge":

1. Already have spent well over the investment on other trips.
2. Will continue trips at least every other year as long as possible.
3. The hope that I will one day see a grandchild on someone's shoulders yelling "Cinderellaaaaaaa" and "Mickeeeeeeeeeey" at a parade, just as my daughter did a few years back or the experience of having a formerly terrified child shout "YES, can we do it again?" :dancer: when she walked off of Rockin' Rollercoaster.
4. The ability to share the magic with family and friends.
5. Let's face it - I'm addicted!

Planning a trip next year with our family of 4, MIL & FIL, and SIL's family of 4. We wanted to treat them to the accomodations. Did this last year with my family and stayed at Budget hotel--was OK but wanted better. We were looking at moderate--pretty expensive for 3 rooms for a week. Looked into renting DVC. Thought hey as long as we're spending thousands for next year's trip, why not buy and have something to show for it when that trip is over. We spent twice asmuch money now but will have vacations for years to come. With two kids under two we know we'll be going again and again!

We outgrew our offsite timeshare. My brother and his wife bought at Westgate Lakes, and our whole family used their condo several times. But as my four siblings married and the grandchildren came along we were going to be crammed for space. As the only single one in the clan, I knew I'd soon be sleeping on the sofa and sharing a bathroom with the kiddies. So a few hours before I was to catch a flight back to Philly, I did the DVC tour at the Boardwalk and flew home reading the details. Due to the timing, I had my choice of locations and a few days later called my guide to purchase at SSR, which was perfect for me- preconstruction incentives; on-property, but easily accessible to offsite; a spa; beautiful grounds. Learning of my father's love for the Boardwalk, I also bought two BWV contracts from the Timeshare Store.

After my parents' first visit to SSR, they fell in love with DVC and only want to stay onsite with me (and it also gets them out of full-time babysitting while on vacation). I've since added on at VWL and BCV, and am contemplating the Villas at the Animal Kingdom Lodge as well. I am so grateful that I stumbled on to DVC. It's really changed my outlook on vacationing.

Actually, it was these boards that convinced us! :thumbsup2 I had never read so many positive things about a timeshare and everyone was so happy owning we had to do it - they made us :rotfl: !

I think it was when we met w/our guide and she said that when CR first opened it was $30-$40 per night and now it is nearly $300. That really put things in perspective.
Since then - we have been there 2 times per year, taken friends and family, and more than made our investment worthwhile.
We have also added on at BWV and BCV.

I would do it again in a heartbeat! Peanut Butter Jelly Time!!!!

Cheers! :drinking1

in 1992 I stayed at POR, Polyn then CR. I brought DVC then canceled it.

in 1993 I stayed at DL (POR) & Polyn - and spend more than I planned. both trips were with my brother's family. when we were leaving POR on the kids first trip - I was saying I couldn't wait to get home - my nephew say he didn't want to leave.

I brought DVC as soon as I got home.

Wow! I'm curiuos how to you use all those contracts. I mean I'm not weathy but I could easily work the cost of 500 points and all the maint fees into our budget if we wanted to. Our family loves vacations. But I could never find the time to use all of that every year. Time off work, airfare, etc. How do all of you do it, those that have gobs of and gobs of points? Are you retired with loads of cash or something? :teeth:

First, after visiting WDW several times we found that we love the whole WDW experience and we loved staying on property.

Second, because we love the whole WDW experience we are confident that we will continue to vacation at WDW at least once a year for many years in the future.

Third, we compared DVC accommodations and flexibility to the other onsite accommodations we could afford and decided that we liked DVC enough to consider buying.

Finally, we compared what we had been spending for accommodations to what we expected to pay for DVC and decided that DVC made better suited our circumstances than staying at other on site accommodations. So we joined, we are very glad we did, and now that we’ve passed our break even point we are even happier.

We went to Disney about once a year always staying off site. One year we stayed at Orange Lake Time Share. Many friends already own there. We did the tour and then decided to do the DVC tour as well. It was like apples and oranges. Orange Lake is very nice, but we spent all our time at Disney. It was the best vacation investment that we ever made. :thumbsup2

New member, joined the board specifically because DH and I just joined DVC.

DH had been considering joining DVC since the West Coast DCL cruise last year, but didn't. The DCL onboard credit of $15 per point this year was too much for DH to pass up.

It was the free park admission for the entire length of stay that convinced me. Unfortunately, that ended in 2000 so now I enjoy the serenity of having breakfast on the veranda of a large one bedroom at OKW overlooking the golf course. :surfweb:
