Why did Russian plane go down?

Our home page last nite said ISIS claimed responsibility for it, but I don't really know

I'm wondering if ISIS or someone else tampered with the plane. It happened about 25 min after takeoff.

It was a Russian plane, right? They are not exactly known for their excellent safety record. Mechanical is my bet.

This morning they are saying "external forces" brought down the plane, meaning bomb or missile. I cannot believe the news is not covering this more. Plenty of Leah Remini leaving Scientology :sad2:
I wish we could have real news stations.

Article I read said that ISIS does not have missiles with enough range to reach the plane at the altitude where the plane exploded. It could have been caused by an explosive device on the plane. There is also the possibility that a structural problem caused it because the plane had previous damage to the tail of the plane from it striking the runway on landing (or maybe takeoff).

Did I read right that the aircraft had previously struck it's tail on takeoff? A previous plane with this record ended up crashing with several hundred dead, the worst air disaster in history.

Yes. I believe that happened in 2001 and the plane had logged thousands of flight hours since then.

A missile strike is highly unlikely. There's speculation that maybe the plane lost control, lost altitude, and broke up from the stress of tumbling.

Islamic State might derive some sick pleasure from being credited with this disaster, sort of like bigging them up. I doubt it was them, short of an on plane bomb, but didn't the pilot radio in an anomaly? I'm sure I read that he asked for immediate clearance to land at a closer air port.

Lots of info here. (Say what you will about Daily Mail, but I find them to be first to report details before other outlets, and their information generally to be on target.) Take from it what you will.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...mpact-blew-jet-apart-flight-data-reveals.html

  • Crash sites spread over 12 miles or more in desert, suggesting plane broke apart in air, according to Russian aviation officials
  • Passengers seated in front of plane's injuries different than those seated in back; many in front with shrapnel and impact wounds, and back with burns
  • Metal plane fragments bent outward suggest explosion from inside, whether from something like a bomb or a mechanical rupture (see pic w red arrows below)
  • Black box data shows plane went up twice, then down
  • Egypt denying plane ruptured in air - claiming mechanical failure, concerned about Egyptian tourism
  • Unusual sounds detected in cockpit on flight recorders, but no unusual chatter
  • Food truck delivery person being "interrogated" and fuel truck impounded

It will be interesting to see what is officially stated about this considering the many differing agendas served by where the finger of blame lands.

I don't see ISIS claiming false responsibility, I'll take them at their word.

I also heard they do not have a missile that could do it, but my DH read somewhere that there was evidence of an internal explosion. Not sure if it was the same source as a PP used or not. He finds lots of info all over, it's there if you want to look for it, just not on regular nightly news. The only good thing that could possibly come from this is that if it is shown conclusively it was ISIS, Putin has no qualms about putting his foot down.

This wouldn't be the first time they claimed responsibility for something they had no involvement in, so I'm not sure why you'd consider them above lying about it. They aren't known for their trustworthiness, and always eager to take advantage of any propaganda situation.

I do think it's likely they are involved, but this struck me as a very strange statement.

Do you think Putin would be able to take down ISIS? The Russians had no more success in Afghanistan than the US.
