Why are the water fountains so warm?

In all of the parks so many of the water fountains have warm water. Can't there be anything done about this? This has been a pet peeve of mine for years. I just got back and it was so hot. It would have been nice to sip cold water.

I wonder if they do this on purpose so you have to buy water.

I wondered about that too. The only fountain I found that had cold water was inside Mission Space in the "play" area.

Water pipes run under the pavement that is ultra hot in the sun. Therefore water will be warm unless specifically refrigerated.

Just my opinion, not-so-cold water is easier on the teeth especially teeth with fillings.

The water in the pipes gets warm. However if you let the water run for a minute before drinking the water will get cold at most all of the fountains.

This is Florida, dear. Pikes run outside and are hot, heating up the water inside the pipes.

Yes it is Florida and it's hot so thats why I would appreciate cold water from a water fountain. Warm water in the sweltering heat is not a good thing.
To me makes the water fountains useless.

Water from our tap is never very cold at all. Making it run does not always help as the pipes are not deep enough under ground to be shielded in the summer months.

It is pretty miserable brushing your teeth with luke warm water.

This isn't really all that complicated.

The water is chilled at the fountain and the thermostats have all been adjusted to save money.

When you consider the thousands of fountains involved, we're talking huge bucks if each fountain is adjusted upward by 20 degrees or so.

We've always been able to get free cups of ice water at any rest./ counter service area- we just walk in and ask. Here at our home in Ga, I hate brushing my teeth with the warm water that we have all summer long!- I need cold water to enjoy that fresh just brushed feeling! :rolleyes1
