Why are Post Office workers SO rude?

I've found that the concentration of surly workers seems to parallel the concentration of surly patrons, and I believe the latter not only out-weighs the former, but has typically preceded the former.

as someone who use dto work in a customer service job, i would agree with you. ;)

I went up to the counter and said: "Hi, how are you today?" She looked at me like I had 2 heads, and mumbled "fine." I than asked to send my package so it gets there on or About Thursday, and thats when she said: "Its 3 day priority, and we don't gurantee it will get there!" :sad2: Just, her personality was very negative, and NO there is no more to the story, this post office has maybe 1 person thats nice, but she is always in the back, my DH deals with the Post office more than I do and he told me this! :confused3

Lol! Unfortunately not everyone has the personality to be a window clerk. We have a couple like that around town too. The charm just isn't there.
However, that isn't a requisite for bidding on a window job.:) Just the ability to handle money real well. Believe it or not, the supervisors are the ones we promote out of the worker postions for that reason. We can't do a thing with them! :lmao:

Unfortunately, the USPS is just as afflicted with rude workers as other businesses. But, as I've said on here before, the best recourse is to always use the customer service options. You can now go online at usps.com and do your complaining there, or use the 1-800-ASK-USPS number.

Good advice, LuvN~Travel. I am a Postmaster in a small office and have worked for the USPS for 24 years. You really do need to let someone know when you get bad service or a rude clerk. When people complain to me, I THANK them. I learned long ago that the customer who complains to me is doing me a favor. I can't fix what I don't know about.

No excuse for rudeness. I try to get a smile out of even my crossest looking customers. I know from my own expereince, a super nice sales clerk can really brighten up my day. If you can't be pleasant and helpful to your customers, get a different job!

:furious: Just went and mailed my Package to POP for arrival on Thursday, I said I wanted 3 day Priorty, and she said: "We can't guarantee it will get there in 3 days." :scared1: Than, she took it and put it in the back, I paid and left, not have a nice day or anything! WTH?? I am PAYING for 3 day Priorty but you cannot GUARANTEE it will get there? :sad2: I knew I should have went with UPS! :sad2:
Because they can...gotta love the union.

I've experienced both. We have a few guys in our local PO that move slow as molasses. You have to work at moving that slow. Then the PO in the next town and another next to where I work have great employees. It's hit or miss with the PO.

I love the folks at our post office. I went in last week to mail a package. Realized when I got to the counter I didn't have my debit card and then realized I had used my last check. The clerk actually paid the postage for me and told me to just pay him back whenever. Above and beyond the call of duty. :thumbsup2
