Why are people on US boards so touchy?

Hmmm...I have not really noticed it so much on "The Dark Side" as Universal fans like to call it on DIS. I love all theme parks. My DH is partial to Universal and our Orlando trips must always include WDW, US/IOA and sometimes Sea World and Busch Gardens Tampa. I kind of notice it more on the WDW threads where negativity is met with almost outrage that I could say something not so positive about the "perfect resort".

I agree with the poster who said that we might take offense by those who "dis" Universal even though they have never been. I am on many threads because, as I said, I am a fan of Themed Entertainment and parks in particular. I also love Ren-Fairs, Murder Mystery Dinners and other Themed entertainment. I am not critical for the sake of being critical. I genuinely care about the state of Disney and Universal parks. If I didn't care, why say anything at all?

When I first ventured to the Universal part of the boards, I was met with nothing but welcoming, friendly and informative posts. Apparently we have cookies but I am still waiting for the delivery of said sweets. If you are truly interested in honest, informative posts about the park down the road...you will find it here. If you post just to complain about the park, we may bristle a bit. A bit defensive I guess but no more so than those on the WDW boards when someone mentions they didn't like an attraction, policy, cleanliness, etc.

Welcome to the Dark Side, we have cookies...somewhere.

Both sides are pretty touchy from my experiences on here!!!

I read a lot of forums on all portions of the Disboards

Have not seen posters on the darkside stir the pot against other theme parks over here
Many also enjoy wdw, Busch garden, sea world and discovery Cove besides UO

When a new thread like this one begins, it only can go downhill

threads that start in an ugly demeaning way, is a rarity on the darkside

I haven't found any other threads you have experienced as "pretty touchy"

For the most part, I find every section of this site informative and helpful and nice. I've been on.... other Disney forums where the slightest comment sets off a flame war of epic proportions, regardless of whether it's about Disney or Universal, but here it's relatively light and fluffy. :)

Personally, I don't get over to Orlando as often as I'd like (it's been ten years since I was last there), so when I do, I don't like to choose between one and the other, I will do both. They are two such entirely different experiences that I don't see how people can compare one with the other.. Disney does theming like no place I've ever seen, and has such good memories, whereas Universal has some of the best thrill rides around.

Both places fill me with joy. And utter glee.

And long may it continue. :teeth:

I'd like to note that I meant that in a general way, not specifically about this section of the forums. I meant more in general what I've read on Disney fan forums. :flower3:

Ok, understood

I read some threads with a grain of salt

Usually just read and not post on threads on the cb that can become a free for all

But some are quite interesting.....

Hey if you just spent twice as much to visit the mouse, planed for six months every minute of your trip, bought princess dresses for you 14 and 15 year old daughters, waited for busses, waited for rides, and so much more. Then you come over here and see about the great rides and express pass and the need for very little planning, wouldn't you be a little ticked off. Love Universal, and will go back to Disney eventually. But right now Universal is best thing since canned beer in my opinion.

You wash your mouth out!

Coming in here, disrespecting beer... *wanders off muttering*

I agree with most of the posts here....and I see OP's point. But why stop there?

1. I recall one particular thread about Harry Potter, where I dared to suggest to a poster WHO HAD NEVER BEEN to Universal, that there was more to Universal than just HP- and YIKES!- the response I got was rabid and completely irrational. I started my post saying the HP potter parts of the parks are amazing, but she just didn't read that at all.

2. Then again....just this week, I've encountered multiple irrational posts on the subject of Florida weather. They crop up every spring, I can almost re-set my clock (Daylight Saving Time) by them. There's always a barrage of hyperbolic posts this time of year claiming that it is impossible for anyone to enjoy Orlando in the summer. I promise, the sun's temperature IS much hotter than Orlando's average summer high of 92 degrees, and ALL WDW and Universal hotels have pools.

:)

I have to agree that both parks offer a different experience. While I prefer Disney, it's because I do not like thrill rides, and I love all the shows. I always try to get info from the CM's (don't know what they are called at Universal) on the aggressiveness of a ride. I have been steered in the wrong direction at times and end up closing my eyes the whole way, and praying for the ride to be over. I did really enjoy Harry Potter, the train ride to get there made it feel so real. They did a stupendous job with it, it was like going to a different world. I hope Pandora is equally compelling. I also did like the fact that I didn't have to take a million (slight exaggeration) buses to get around. It's just very convenient.

Ok, so I now have one vote not to move this thread to the cb forum

If we were watching twilight zone, how many would wish the thread into the cornfield..

Lol

Yep, always interesting to read all the other boards posts.........

Totally agree with schumi!

You that know me understand I am not a potterhead fan

But, I do the rides, drink the butter beer and eat the weird ice cream
And watch the dragon breathe fire and take 100 pictures of it each visit.....

And also watch the singing show
The lady with the backup singers
(Celeste and girls)

I find the place is kewl

I've not been to Universal since 2007, but being a local to Pinewood/Leavesden I've been to the Potter studios more times than I care to count, so I am crazy excited to see what Universal has done.

Not half as excited as my boyfriend though. He is virtually frothing at the knees in excitement..

:D

This doesn't seem appropriate to be in the Universal forums, since it's not even about the parks, it's just about people being snarky to each other.

I agree with other posters who point out that the Universal section is extremely drama-free ... until this thread got moved here, anyway.
