Why are boys 2nd class citizens with Disney?

I love all the Disney characters, but if they don't have character meals for boys soon our family will be spending more time at Universal. They have a character meal there with Spiderman, the Hulk, etc., that gets rave reviews. I'm hoping when The Cars movie comes out that Disney will do something with it in the parks.

I think Nickelodeon and the Paramount parks have Disney beat on this issue. The characters in their parks appeal to boys and girls from young to old. The parade the travelled from park to park this summer held our child's interest much more than any Disney parade-as he got bored during the princess and other characters he did not like parts. Plus they freshen things up every year-it's not the same parade over and over and over again.

I still believe that Disney is a better family destination overall, but for a 1-2 day visit close to home-the Nickelodeon theming at our Paramount park(Kings Island) rivals what is offered for boys by Disney. Sad but true. :guilty:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I hate power rangers (always had, I was a preschool teacher back in the early 90's.) Now that I am a mother it is one more reason I am happy I have girls. I mean can't stand those guys and now Disney picked them up. YUCK. I wish they would just go away. They are very "undisney" is you ask me. I would so much rather have Toy Story. Power Rangers don't belong in the parks at all, even if some shirt and tie at Disney bought them to get in on the marketing. Honesistly I think it is the same as Disney picking up Bratz. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

When I was younger I loved power rangers! I was the pink one...DANANANANA. I dont think its that bad...JMHO

My DS is only 2 1/2, so it's not that big of an issue for HIM yet...but it is for me and my DH! We'd LOVE to see something NOT princess! I know the princess stuff sells...but it's really a bit much!! They started the whole "adventurer" toy line...they could do SO much more with that in the parks! And I really do think it would be successful! I know DS will be happy in December dining with Pooh & the gang and Mickey and the gang, but I know Pooh will only be "cool" for so long with him. He already adores Buzz!

Hey...Pooh rocks...Im 14 and still love him... ;)

AHHHHHHH NOOOOOO.

Actually some very distrubing news is Erin from the planning DVD actually was (or still is not sure) the pink ranger at some point. I am not sure, I can't actually stomach enough to pay attention, but it is in her bio.

No mater if they don't make your skin crawl (like mine) I think it is pretty standard to feel they are very "unDisney" at the least.

Oh and Pooh does rock. I will agree with you on that. Infact often the older you get, the more funny Pooh is (espcecailly the original works from A.A. Milne) :cheer2:

Who are the NEW fairies ?

From Tinks new book and movie.
Fairy dust and quest for the egg.

Tink
Rani
Beck
Vadia
and a couple more I heard from a pod cast that 5 would be there.

I agree with Bicker. It's the money. Their character meals are full everyday of the week and there is no reason to change.

As far as merchandising goes, princess stuff flies off the shelf. The company's attempt at marketing to boys, Heroes, hasn't exactly been mindblowing.

Ah okay. I haven't even heard about that.

Heck, I'D go to a Star Wars breakfast. Especially if Han Solo is there.

They have nothing for my boys or for me.
Isn't that the truth?!?!?!? Being a childless adult, I NEVER go in there anymore. There's no reason to unless I want to buy a mug. :confused3

My DS is 7, DD is 2, so we just started into the Princess stuff, which she loves... BUT I totally agree with Disney being geared toward girls. Since there are 5 years between my 2 children, DS had many trips to WDW before DD came along. And I have complained about this for years. Obviously it falls on deaf ears because what did Disney do over the years, ummm add another Princess meal at Epcot. Still no boys meal. DD loves BUzz also and would love a character meal with him as well as DS.

But why should Disney be any different than marketing in general. All you parents of boys know, when you shop for clothes for your boys especially around the holidays, 50 racks of dresses, 1 rack of boys clothes. And its the same stuff every year, maybe just a color change here and there.

I personally don't care for the Power Rangers, but I'm not a little boy. My 5 year old son loves Power Rangers though we don't watch the show. He has some toys and was a green Power Ranger for Halloween. In the previous three years he had been Eeyore, Tigger and Pooh. I'd actually be a little worried if he didn't outgrow some of the cute and cuddly characters at some point. It's normal for little boys to like more action-oriented characters.

I was thinking about this a bit. I think there is another way for Disney to go--an Incredibles breakfast! They have universal appeal, both girls & boys love them, and even adults like them too. Good strong female roles & great male roles & a strong family unit (at the end).

If you're reading this Disney, here's something that works for everybody!

I had noticed that there is a lot less geared for boys at Disney. I've seen it for a few years, even before I had children. My kids are very little, so it hasn't become an issue or anything yet.

I am the ultimate girly girl princess myself, but while I adore the princesses, I see the need for more things for all the children to enjoy.

I see some great suggestions here. And I'm glad that there is a growing awareness of the lack of things for boys in general.

I have hated the Power Rangers since they came out a million years ago. However, my son 3.5 yo just loves them. He hates Pooh and Friends because "that's for babies" (his words). I would love for Disney to do more boy things.

When we went last March to the 1900 Park Fair - DS was General Shang - and Prince Charming just loved it, he stayed close to my boy all evening and told him that "us princes have to stick together around here".

I want a character dinner with Tarzan for ME!!

I use to work in The Disney Store a few years back and I can tell you it was hard trying answer the question, "Where are all the boys stuff?" I would look at them, apologize and say, "I'm sorry ma'am/sir, but this is what they send us." Very difficult. I wanted to buy my only nephew something and couldn't after he got to old. It's all about the almighty buck.

I agree. AK is a little more boyish with Turk, Baloo, Donald and the Camp Mickey theme or you all might want to check out that....ssshhhh "other park" with Spiderman, Scooby, Popeye, Shrek, Spongebob and Jimmy Neutron.

Oh and go into any clothing store, the boys section is in the back and a quarter the size of the girl's with never anything on sale.

I think it is interesting to note that while the Princesses dominate the breakfasts, boy characters dominate the most current movies. The most of the princess movies are older.
