Why am I not that excited about 7 Dwarfs ride?

I'm really excited that it's not another "simulator" ride and is a physical journey with Audio-Animatronics that are cutting edge.

I'm not over the moon for the start of any ride, and I'm the kind of geek who loved Snow White's Scary Adventures and Mr, Toad in all of their 2-D glory. That being said, I'm kind of excited to ride it this fall, because its track aspect reminds me of Indiana Jones, which is IMHO a great ride. It also seems to have a projection aspect combined with the animatronics which is cool.

Then there is the fact that perhaps it is kind of a 'baby' rollercoaster - which to me the Barnstormer one is NOT -way too whiplashy for some little kids and adults like me. I love Space Mountain and Rock and Rollercoaster but couldn't care less about Splash or BTMRR. To me, the theming of it seems kind of like a slow ride like Pooh or Haunted Mansion or Nemo, combined with a bit of zip.

I'd say I'm excited to ride it, but I wouldn't sell my first born kid to get a FP+ for it.

Maybe the third kid.

Well, I feel given all the years since its announcement and all the hype its been given it will have a challenge just meeting peoples expectations. I am sure it will be okay, I just doubt it will have the wow factor for us. That's okay though we love WDW for what it is.
I do love the way Universal has been adding new and exciting rides attractions each year since we have been going. The technology is amazing and the rides are thrilling with excellent theming. If The Seven Dwarves, Avatarland, or Star Wars Land is half as good as their latest additions it will be amazing.

There is nothing new these days.

How many ways can one build a roller coaster?

Now Six Flags has broken the envelope and built a free fall ride at 415 feet tall with another coaster that goes over it.

Doubt that would work at Disney

There is always something new, somebody just has to come up with it. There was a time when that was Disney, but sadly it isn't anymore.
They didn't need to do another coaster ride, they are imagineers they could have used their imaginations :lmao:

I refuse to look at anything other than pics of the outside. I haven't watched one ride simulation video or looked at any overviews of the ride at all. With all this hype, I want to be totally surprised when I go on it for the first time and the only way to do that is to go on an information embargo.

I'm also doing this. I have no idea what the inside looks like.

In regards of Universal being more innovative, I disagree. They are recycling their attractions as well. Forbidden Journey has a very similar technology to that of The Simpsons ride.

I'm so confused by your statement because they are two totally different rides. The Simpsons is just the old Back to the Future ride re-themed. Forbidden Journey is an amazing ride using state of the art technology.

I was about to mention that. They are nothing alike.

OP, remember that something being new and different doesn't necessarily mean good. In my opinion Mission Space is a massive disappointment but a well-themed ride like the Haunted Mansion, while not unique or cutting edge, is timeless and certainly worth seeing again and again.

So true.

Soarin'=new tech (at the time)+ good

Mission Space=new tech + meh

I've ridden Mission Space a grand total of twice, but I wouldn't miss Dumbo on any trip.

I do like a bit of thrill to my coasters, but I know WDW isn't going to offer a 415 ft straight drop ride. However, the drop ride they do offer (ToT) is head and shoulders above any other drop ride I've done.

I'm definitely looking forward to the new ride, even if it isn't a big thrill ride. I am sure it will be well done. And since my last four trips have had construction walls all over, even if the ride is disappointing, I'll be happy to have the walls down at the very least.

I was about to say the same thing. The only thing similar in the two of them is that they both have screens involved. But the Simpsons is just a standard motion simulator attraction. Forbidden Journey is a state of the art, one of it's kind(for now anyway) attraction that uses kuka arms on a moving track with live action animatronics as well as video. They are not comparable in anyway whatsoever. :confused3

It's actually a tamer ride than Big Thunder,to me it's going to be nicely themed kiddie coaster with a small dark ride section,I'm definitely not incredibly excited over it but at least it's better than the original plan for another princess meet which is the reason it's opening like a year after the rest of Fantasyland.I remember first hearing about the original plan for the new Fantasyland and I thought to myself, doesn't Disney realize everyone coming through the gates is not a 4-11 year old girl.I'm sure it's going to be cool and a big draw but I think they could have made it a tad more thrilling, closer to Big Thunder's thrill level.

Hey now, some of us adults like meeting princesses. :cool2:

Would love it if they did though, like a villians area with big coasters....

My bad. You are right. They use very different technologies. I was thinking more along the lines of motion simulators in general, like the Funtastic World or Jimmy Neutron's ride that used to be at Universal. The simulator/screen combo that was later improved for Forbidden Journey, The Simpsons, Transformers, Spiderman and a couple more. I shouldn't have used Forbidden Journey as an example, as that is the one simulator I have more respect for. I still think that the simulator/screen combo has been replicated way too many times, regardless of the shape of their vehicles. And I'm not talking about Forbidden Journey, because that is a different story.

Not trying to discredit Universal at all. I actually really like a couple of those rides. I just think that it's unfair to call a simulator on a track innovative (again, I'm not referring to FJ) but call a mixture between dark/slow ride and roller coaster as something uninspired and recycled.

Spiderman and Transformers are much more innovative than just being a simulator/screen combo. They involve vehicles moving from room to room with screen transitions done seamlessly and combine physical sets/effects as well.

I think I am pretty excited for 7DMT. on the other hand I think Ariel ride is a waste of space. We rode it the other day and yawn, same with Nemo.

My kids are over the top excited. If they are happy I know I will be. It looks cute and we are excited. I do not expect fantasyland to have a wild and crazy roller coaster. We have no desire for major thrill rides. We would prefer more rides like Ariel, 7DMT, TSM, soarin, Peter Pan, etc. If I want wild thrill rides I will hit great adventure or Universal . I look to disney for nice family rides. That is why we go. In my eyes, while I love our trips and disney rides, they are mainly geared for families and kids. We love the theming. It wouldn't make sense to me to put a wild ride into the park section meant for the younger set....Winnie, small world, etc. a wild roller coaster doesn't seem to fit that area. IMO something between barnstormer and BTMR seems like a good fit. I think sometimes it seems like the adults really want something that appeals only to the older set rather than something a family with littles and maybe grandparents too can enjoy.

Yeah, I am a bit underwhelmed by the whole new fantasyland area myself. The little mermaid is cute, and the mine ride will cute too, but not really great. They took away the snow white ride that was cute. The little distant castle does not really work either, it looks kind of funny. The odd thing is my favorite part of the whole new area is the Rapunzel bathroom area:rotfl2: go figure! :scratchin

For all the money they spent on the stupid fp+ and fantasyland, I think it could be better spent in other parks that need more rides as MK was already good.

I look at what Universal has done and I think to myself, geesh I am looking forward to seeing that more because at least these new rides get me excited.

There is bunch of moves Disney has made lately than I am not a fan of, and I still miss the Cinnamon buns at main street bakery had them in in the FL and guess what they just did not taste as good to our family.

There just seems to be a lot of money grubbing from Disney, two ticket hikes in one year, parking increase, starbucks, preferred rooms costs at POR, assembly line princess and stores, "Disney adults" (this one has always burned me to be honest  )...I am just getting turned off on the whole. This will be our last trip for awhile and I use to live for Disney. :confused3

A ride doesn't have to be wild to be great. I don't think there are too many people who believe Disney is going to start adding crazy thrill rides.

I do know that Disney knows how to do tame rides exceptionally, and that is why something like Little Mermaid was so disappointing. I mean, compare that to HM or POTC. Compare Figment to the original version. Even TSMM is just a bunch of screens you ride past.

What makes Disney rides so great is the details and theme, as well as cutting edge technology. In recent years that's been missing, and while I hope 7DMT brings that back, I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.
