Why all the ***'s

Hiya -

A sensitive subject, but have noticed that the UK short form of because keeps getting *** out.

I use it all the time and can't for the life of me come up with ANY thing that it could possibly stand for that would be that bad.... I get so annoyed that I have to keep going back through my posts *because* I don't want to have *** littering my posts - looks like I might be swearing all the time, and I'm really not like that Anyone know why? - probably best to pm if it IS that bad...

I have wondered for a while, not a word I use but I see it quite a bit on here.
Only thing I can think of is meaning #10 in the Urban dictionary, that would explain why its not allowed to be used on a US site but we don't know about it. Just Google the word then urban dictionary after it, its the one about Bill Cosby.
If its not that then no idea.

the reason is because the abbreviation of the website that they are talking about is *** and a lot of US dissers were banned last year for bashing completly innocent threads on there.

tee hee..... I love that idea.... a regular Lynne Truss amongst us...

As for the Urban Dictionary - I think there are probably quite a few of those reasons in there - made me blush to even look...... there are words for things in there that I didn't even realise were things in the first place.... (and I'm in my mid 40s!!)

I did that! Actually it wasn't by accident - I was abbreviating something else. Typed in the initial letters of All Star Sports (leaving out the small p at the end) and it had stars when I submitted my post. Totally innocently, I added another post saying don't know why xxx showed as stars.... and promptly forgot about it. Only later did I realise what it would have looked like - and it didn't help that it was in capital letters! I spent days constantly checking my PMs to see if a moderator had sent me a caution. All I can say is it was one week I was VERY relieved to be British and on the UK boards!
