Why all the BWV Resales

When we go to WDW, we are rarely in the room that much. We are the type of people who are at the parks all day, but like the space of the one bedroom villa. Do you think its worth the extra money for a preferred view, or should we stick with the standard view.
The rooms are exactly the same - the only difference is the view out the window. IMHO, the view out the standard view rooms is just fine. Plus, sometimes you get lucky and are able to see some of the fireworks from EPCOT from your SV balcony. Only a very small number of PV - Pool/Garden studios (those overlooking the Village Green) and the the Boardwalk view rooms can say the same (you can see fireworks from all of the BW view rooms).

SV rooms sell out very quickly compared to the PV - Pool/Garden view rooms. You need to book as soon as the 11 month window opens (and day by day for some times of the year) to be sure of getting one.

Thanks Carol. At least now I know how many points I need to buy. We usually go for 9 days, in May, and I just couldn't see spending the extra monry on points that weren't needed.

Our own preference when staying with our family is to stay in the Standard View rooms - I'm frugal and find the value there to be exceptional. We don't have a lot of points, so standard view allows us to stretch what we have.

This year I'm taking my sister and her family and my parents down - my sister just celebrated her one year survivorship for breast cancer with a clean scan and this fall is our celebration. For that occation, I managed to get two Boardwalk View rooms - using all three years worth of my points. I actually haven't been that fond of the Boardwalk View (though I'm excited now that the ugly hand is off Spaceship Earth and its restored to how it should be) - its nice, but I don't think it lives up to the hype for me. But with Boardwalk view I know what I'm going to be looking at and I know the view is good - and for a special event, that is worth the extra points.

Preferred view rooms are the same number of points as Boardwalk View, but with much less of a guarentee of whether the view you get will be good or bad. There are some Preferred View rooms that are right next to the Boardwalk View Rooms. There are Preferred View rooms that are next door to Standard View rooms. There are great rooms and there are less than great rooms. So that's always our last choice.

We own BW and almost always book exactly eleven months out. Because we travel in October and have a definate preference for the standard view rooms, its important for us to call, if not day by day, at least very promptly.

great question! I'm an SSR owner who wishes that I had purchased BWV. I love it there, will be staying there again this June, and will probably buy a contract via resale pretty soon!

I dont know why so many are selling. Sellers, fill us in!
Just wanted to respond to the question of why we'd sell (we have a 270 pt BWV contract for sale on the sponsor's website). There's a couple of reasons we've decided to sell our BWV contract - 1. We have a young child who is obsessed with animals. We bought at the AKV and she loves it there. BWV skews a little more adult we think. We loved going there before our daughter was born. 2. We've been to Disney too many times in the last 18 months. Having less points will make us go less. 3. We'd like the money from selling this to use to build a vacation home.

We've always loved the BWV, and would suggest someone interested in buying stay there (go with friends, rent someone's pts?) and check it out before purchasing.

We were able to book preferred view @ BWV at 6 months out. We own at BWV, but I thought about doing a Vero Beach trip but my boys vetoed it. I was shocked we got the rooms for mid-June. As to the BWV room condition- We have stayed at the Swan/Dolphin (Starwood points) on weekends prior to checking in at BWV, and I have to say, the BWV was so far ahead of the Dolphin you can't imagine. Both are deluxe hotels, but it was like night and day last June when we transferred from the Dolphin to BWV. The air-conditioning actually takes the moisture out of the air!!

I"m wondering what U mean about the amount? I counted 20 BWV resales but counted 60 OKW and 80 SS resales. Also 20 WLV resales. The only reason there are not many BCR relsales is they have 1/5 the amount of contacts the
rest have. U will also notice that BWV resales don't stay listed long because
they are the MOST purchased of all resales. The Boardwalk is the most popular and most requested resort of all the resorts. There have been times when I
have noticed only 2 or 3 BWV resales listed. I think right now people might
be looking to make a couple of bucks. BWV resales will sell and fast. I just sold 100 points at BWV last month. It was listed only for 1 day.Notice how long it will take to sell OKW or SS. I only sold because I moved to Florida and
didn 't need so many points anymore.Good luck. Check around and U will
still find the BWalk area is the best location in WDW...

That's exactly what I mean. If there are marks on the walls, the floor, or whatever, fix it before it becomes a bigger problem.

Now to be fair to the maintenance staff, I'm sure they are pressured from their bosses saying " we've got a family checking in, and they're coming up to the room in 2 hours." There's no way they can have the room cleaned, carpet cleaned, walls painted, and bathroom tiles scrubed in that amount of time. I'm sure they have a maintenance program, but I would take one room at a time, do a complete renovation/upgrade, and move on to the next room.

When we checked into the BCV this past summer, the carpet was completely soaked. I figured they had just cleaned them. They were wet for a couple of days, but they dried out while we were there!:goodvibes I'd rather have them clean and wet than dirty and stained up!

really? even if you went during off season and didn't care what room view you got? I really love BWV (mostly because DH and I got married there) but haven't seen the inside of them (the room decor seems a bit, busy, to me) and I obviously don't like that it has the highest dues so I was thinking when I finally do buy into DVC of getting SSR and then occasionally trying to get into BWV. Would I have a hard time doing so at the 7 month window (that's what you get right? for other resorts beside your home? 7 months?) during off season in a standard view?

I guess it really depends on when you go. Remember...off season for Disney is not necessarily off for DVCers! The points are lowest like early Dec. and Jan., so that makes it more popular for owners.

That said, we have been able to get other resorts every time...so far! We always go either at the end of July-Aug. I booked BWV PV at 7 months this year and waitlisted for BView and my waitlist came through about a month later!:woohoo:

Well, remember that every time they send maintenance up for a mark on the walls, DVC increases their maintenance expense. DVC is a very expensive timeshare to own in terms of dues already - and a lot of members do a lot of complaining every year when dues go up. Personally, I'd rather have marks on the wall than dues even more expensive then they are now.

I totally agree! And a lot of folks expect THEIR room to ALWAYS be in LIKE NEW condition. With resorts getting the continuous use like DVC resorts do, they can't be repainting little scrapes and dings every day. I certainly wouldn't want to pay the maintenance for that. We own at OKW, and while it is 15 years old, we rarely get a room that is in bad enough condition to complain about. I do think DVC has used top quality products in their units, and that means they are a bit easier to maintain also.

I agree that Disney uses quality materials when they build and decorate their resorts. My main concern was buying into the BWV, and then being hit with a surcharge when they decide to remodel the place. I was put at ease when I found out they wouldn't be doing that.
