We're going down , leaving on Feb 14th and coming back leaving on Feb 21st, is anyone else taking the autotrain in February? Just looking for some excited pals! :goodvibes

We're not on the auto train, but am interested in how it goes for you. I've wondered how far of a drive it is for New Englanders to the (Virginia?) Station and if it would just be best to drive the whole way... stopping in DC then to see family in Charleston.

BTW - We'll be down there Feb vacation, flying from PVD from the 10th, returning on the 19th. :woohoo: 19 days and counting!

HI!

We're going down on the 12th and coming back on the 18th! We're sailing on the Disney Wonder on the 14th!

I will report back and let you know how it goes. I have done the drive the whole way, we tried strait through, no good! Maybe with a stop it wouldn't be too bad.

HI!

Awesome have fun on your cruise! We're cruising in April, I have a few more months to wait for that! I guess I'll just mis syou both times on the Autotrain. Do you have a room or are you coach? We're trying coach for the first time this year! :scared1:

twinklebug=== We are in Central CT. We take the autotrain every Aug to WDW. (we are heading down on our 6 trip this aug) We leave here by 2am. We are in NJ by Newark when the sun is rising = want to say by 530. We don't hit any rush hour traffic at all. We stop in MD at a Cracker Barrell for Breakfast around 7 am. We stay for about an hour. We usually get into the Lorton Station by 11 am. We grab a bite to eat-hit the $ store nearby and then get in line to drop off the car. Train leaves by 4 pm ( sometimes sooner). We have generally arrived in Sanford FL by 830ish am. We check into our resort around 10 am.

2AM sounds crazy but we do miss all the traffic. The only traffic we have been stuck in is some construction or accident backup. We do not do the DC loop. We found a nice way around it.

Our return train 08 was cancelled due to Tropical storm. The next avail train out was 5 days later. DH and I looked at each other -thought about driving home (which we have never done) for all of a split second and decided we would wait for the next train home. We like the fact that the train is still moving while u are sleeping. If u stop at a hotel u don't move any further.
We always know the train is an adventure and to be ready to handle a delay.

If you have any ?'s I'd be happy to help

We're taking the Autotrain down in April for the first time :thumbsup2 Our last trip we drove, and it was tough being in the car all those hours with three little ones. We're booked lower level coach on the train - so I'd love to hear how it goes for you. We're planning on leaving around 2am as well - we live right by Gillette Stadium, hopefully we'll beat traffic and get to Lorton in plenty of time. Have a great trip and let us know how it went!

Thanks Cheryl! We'll be with you in spirit. No matter how we go to Disney, it's still exciting... it's the trek home I want over with as soon as possible.

2am. Hm, I can't seem to wrap my brain around what time of day that is. :rotfl:

We're in SE MA, between the RI border & the Cape, so our drive would probably be about the same as yours plus about another hour and a half. Leaving at midnight doesn't sound bad though. Encountering traffic in unfamiliar cities is the last thing I'd want. according those I know who drive to FL every year, the NY/DC traffic is the worst and there will always be road construction and delays somewhere along the way. The woman who takes care of our fuzz-friends while we're away swears by a mountain route she takes every year. But she's a little nuts to start with (aren't we all? hehe.)

The cost of the sleepers is outrageous, but I like your thoughts about the train moving while sleeping and comparing it to the cost of a hotel room. Now I understand why folk will spring for the bedrooms. :thumbsup2 Hmmm.

I don't know - trains, planes or automobiles (or some combo there-of) is still up in the air for our summer trip. Jet Blue is looking better and better the more I worry about what we could encounter driving
