Saw an interesting interview on TV this morning. A young couple, probably late teens or early 20's. Seems they had gone to 6 Flags, and were about to go on a coaster when the attendant, so the girl said, told her to leave her pocketbook there for security reasons????? :confused3 So she DID  ! No locker, no nothing. Leave your belongings with a stranger. Real smart.

Well surprise, it had disappeared when she got off the ride. The couple went to management and told their tale of woe. They were mad because mgment wouldn't do anything more than give them an inpark food voucher. They lost cell phones, money, credit cards, etc. I was laughing to myself thinking how my folks would have never let me forget it for being so gullible, when her dad comes on and says he is angry too. But not at his daughter, but at the park because 6 Flags didn't show enough concern for his daughter. WTH!

I'm sure the attendant was summer help and could have taken it himself or not, but I personally think the girl & her dad were out of line to think the park owed her anything.

What do you think about it?

There is a theme park in my area and I went there a couple of weeks ago. I was told that I was not allowed to bring my bag on the coaster with me. I had my wallet, camcorder, and camera in my bag. Don't think so...

I was told that I have a choice of either leaving my bag or not riding. I opted for the not riding. There is a board listing all of the rules and one of the rules is that the park assumes no responsibility for lost or stolen items.

Something is not right. I don't know too many people who go to a theme park and don't take a camera or wallet/purse.

I feel so sorry for that person. I wonder frequently what is wrong with people

Maybe the girl cooked up the story because she really lost the purse. :confused3

Silverwood?

I don't have any problem puting bags on the exit side of the ride. No way the other park guests are getting to them and if the park workers were to mess with the bags the other people would see them.

Yes, this sounds rather strange. Girls start carrying purses at such a young age today and they know that most of what they have in their purses is of real value and NOT to let it out of your sight EVER. I mean I lived in fear when I was younger and had a purse of either losing it or (when traveling to a big city such as Boston or NYC) someone grabbing it off my shoulder!

The girl is probably pretty upset with herself and it would have been just as easy to have gone to find the parks lockers (as most or all of them have lockers) and locked her purse in there for safe keeping.

I do not think the park is at fault. I am wondering if the girl saw "MANY" purses and backpacks in a pile as she boarded the ride or was it just hers that the attendant took...hmmm... :confused3

In reality, the girl was probably told that she couldn't board the ride with a purse for safety reasons. Imagine how much stuff falls out of people's purses, bags and pockets when a rollercoaster goes through a loop-the-loop. A heavily-laden purse, even securely fastened and looped over a person's body could flip up and hit someone.

What kind of person takes a purse to an amusment park and expects to be able to take it on every ride with them?

IMO, this this same woman would be suing if she took the purse on the ride and got injured by the purse because she would claim that 6 Flags was at fault in allowing her to take her purse on the ride.

Yes, it is Silverwood. There was virtually no one there and I really felt uncomfortable leaving my things there. I realize that I had a choice. I also understand safety reasons for my not bringing on my bag on the ride. I don't have a problem with it. I was just stating that I would not leave my stuff unattended. You just never know. I decided to take the pictures that I thought I wanted and then I put my bag in the car.

That is standard fare at a ride. They don't let you take your stuff on some rides any longer.

I always have a fanny pack for that reason.

Who would never carry a pocket book into a theme park anyway, how could you possibly ride the rides etc lugging a pocketbook on with you????

Technically, if a venue provides storage, and requires its use, the venue is required to exercise reasonable care (have the area watched, and make sure people don't take what isn't theirs). That's why theme parks provide lockers with keys, though. They can restrict what you can bring on any attraction, and as long as they don't provide actual storage for the stuff that isn't allowed (so it is therefore simply your choice to store it on the ground outside the attraction) then they're not liable at all. Their staff shouldn't be saying, "You can leave it there..." without also saying, "...at your own risk, or put them in the locked lockers before you get in queue."

When there are two or three cars on a roller coaster, people are getting off the ride while you're still riding it. So, other people walk right by your stuff (and can possibly take it). If it was a hoax, I would think that the attendant would have said "I never told this girl to leave her bag". I have seen many people leave things before they board the ride and I always thought that it was a good chance that someone getting off a different car could just pick it up on their way out.

It just seems that more and more people do not use their heads at all and when something "goes wrong" are looking to blame anyone but themselves.

stupid people
