Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Wow, that is pretty expensive if you ask me. I plan to do some research on private tours as I have organized them before on other DCL trips.

We are booking private tours as well. We did them on our last Med cruise and the cost was must less.

I am not sure if Nancy and I met you. I was traveling with my DH John on MV and my BFF Nancy on Hawaii.

I know I saw you in passing, but I do not think we ever formally met each other.

For those of you booking private tours, would you be opposed to others tagging along? It will be myself (Gail 37 then) my mom (Florence 68 then) and my nephew (Jakob 9 then) sailing. I had put a deposit down on the abd add on but upon further consideration of their itinerary and the price , I think we can do better ourselves.

If you don't want others on your tour, as you book, would you just post the details so us newbies can get an idea who you're using and what you're doing???

On the day we go to La Spezia (I think thats the port) I'd like to get to piza for the tower, and to Florence for some sight seeing and pictures (I know alot of the important stuff will be closed the day we are there). Anyone know how do-able that will be???

For Rome, I did a little research and found out their is a Jewish themed tour available. Would anyone else have an interest in that? It's on romeinlimo's page. Looks kinda cool.

On the Mykonos day, I'd like to get to the nearby island (I forget the name now) with the ruins. Anyone else thinking of heading there? We're not really beach people so while it might be fun to get in the water there, I can't see us doing that for a whole day.

Any thoughts?? I know alot of people on here have been before so I'd love to hear about your plans and get to know you better. Anyone sailing with a near 9 year old boy? Thanks Gail

I have no objections and I am sure my DH would not have any to having kids along if the tour were appropriate for a child.

Will keep you posted on what I find as I do research.

You're thinking of Delos.... DH and I went there three years ago. Our ship docked there for a few hours in the morning and then we had the afternoon in Mykonos. I wouldn't be surprised if DCL offered an excursion there and you will certainly be able to find other tours that go there, we saw quite a few. Just FYI, it will be very hot, there is really no shade on Delos ( I found that hard to believe but it was true ). Also, bring some water. There may have been a tiny snack bar but can't say for sure. There is a small museum and gift shop.

I'm looking forward to more time in Mykonos. Lots of cute shops and narrow streets.

Anyone sailing with a near 9 year old boy?

My oldest DS will be 9 on this trip, and youngest will be turning 7. I'm sure they would love to hang out with other kids although I don't know that our touring plans will line up. Youngest DS is NOT a walker (has always hated it - I currently have him "in training" to get him used to it for this trip :rotfl:) so we aren't planning to do go too in depth on most of the port days except Rome and Athens. We likely will not go to Florence at all, only Pisa, and will probably just do the beach in Mykonos. Villefranche we will likely just do the train to Monaco and a half day there.

Of course once the kids see Madagascar 3 next week, they might be asking to see some more of the European sites from the movie! popcorn::

Woohoo! School is out for the summer and that means this time next year, we'll be just days away from heading out on this great adventure! Woo-hoo!

We are not planning any private tours - just Disney excursions with some ports exploring on our own. We will be travelling with our DS who will be 9, almost 10 on this cruise. He is always up for a new friend!!!

MY DH and I was willing to share. We did last time and enjoyed the families we meet.

Maybe as this gets closer we would make a list of people with private tours and if they want to share how may opening they have.

I keep checking to see if the cabin we want opens up. So far not yet, but I notice that the one cabin available in our category changes every few days - i guess as people hold reservations or change their plans. There was a time that only guaranty were available.

Still watching airfare to get a feel for what it could be, and as I'm thinking about it, we may end up cutting a day off the front end of the trip and fly over on Wednesday instead of on Tuesday. The price is the same to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday but goes up if you fly on Thursday. We'll have one night in BCN at the end of our adventure so that our flight home won't be quite so hectic. Last time we flew home the day we got off the ship. When we did the Baltic, we took two extra nights on the end and stayed in London (after having had three at the beginning) and it was nice to not end our cruise so crazily. We don't have a need to stay in Barcelona for so long so we figure if we arrive on Thursday before sailing on Saturday, that should give us enough time to see Barcelona pre and post cruise.

Carnival just sailed the Breeze from Venice so I've been seeing pictures online - it's so beautiful over there!

Which cabin are you looking for maybe all of us can keep an eye out for you as well. I know what it is like to have a cabin that works well for you. DH said if we ever won the lottery he would buy our favorite cabin out for all cruises and send tips to the CM when we didn't sail. :rotfl2: He just proved he is as crazy about DCL as I am! Sue

6116.
We are booked in 6114 which I've since found out is a connecting cabin with 6112. We'd be ok with 6118, too - it's just 6116 is our favorite cabin and we have 6116 booked for the second half of our B2B. It just wasn't available when we booked (opening day, but in the afternoon).

What's your favorite cabin?

Ours is 5622. We really like deck 5 since our first cruise. We have been luckily enough for our 8 cruises on the Magic/Wonder to get it 6 times plus for our two up coming cruises. On the Dream we went with 5050 and enjoyed it just as much including the over sized veranda as a bonus.

Our first cruise we sailed on Deck 8 and while we liked it ok (the space was nice) there were things we didn't like about being on Deck 8. So our next cruise we moved down to Deck 6 (FWIW, we booked Deck 8 when we changed our sailing dates to be the week before Christmas and could sail for less than we had originally booked the week of Christmas on Deck 6). We like the location of 6116 - near the AFT elevators, a hallway beneath us, three floors down from Topsiders. The kids like dropping down a floor to go forward to access the youth clubs.

So I started thinking again (tell me if this is crazy) popcorn::. I'm thinking it might be nice to fly to Florence instead of Barcelona, spend some time there since things will be closed on the Monday we go to Florence, then either fly, train, or ferry to Barcelona before the cruise? What do you all think? Figured it might be too much to try and do Florence/Pisa in one day, and since the good stuff will be closed anyway in Florence we'd miss out. :confused3 Anyone done this before or think it's doable? Thanks

Haven't done that, but I think with us being in Florence/Pisa on Monday, then it's a good idea if you want to see Florence. It shouldn't be too difficult to get from Florence to Barcelona. I'd definitely check into it!

We look at air fares, and plan to fly into whatever European city is cheaper, and enjoy a day or 2 there before heading to Barcelona, either by plane or train.
