Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

I'm with you on the DCL excursions! I love reading these posts, but it is totally overwhelming! I have never traveled to Europe and it, quite honestly, is scary to be doing as a single parent. I am anxious to see what the ABD add on costs and see what it includes. If that breaks the bank I will just look at scheduling individual tours. I love the idea of letting DCL handle all the details so that I can just enjoy the experience with my girls.

With that said, I would like to add a stop in Paris on this trip. If we are already going to spend the money to get that far, I would hate to miss an opportunity to see DLP and the Eiffel Tower. Is anyone else looking to do this? Could we join you? We are flexible with a pre- or post-cruise trip. TIA!

Does someone know the address of the port in Barcelona? I am looking at hotels for a precruise stay and would like to "mark" out an area to stay.

Hmmmm...DLP? Hadn't thought of that. My husband was thinking pre-cruise we'd do Barcelona and maybe Portugal. I might have to remind him that DLP is pretty close. If we do decide to do DLP, I'll let you know.

Thanks to the poster who suggested Rick Steves' Port guide book. I ordered the book last night and it arrived today! We love his method of travel and using his method for touring the ports is a great option. I'm looking forward to his recommendations.

THANKS!

Pam

This might help:

I'm with others who say as long as we're paying to fly over to Europe, might as well stay and see as much as you can while you're there! We did this when we sailed the Baltic in 2010 - I'd wanted to go to London for 30 years and we finally made it so I knew I wanted to spend some extra days there rather than plan another trip. Because we're doing B2B cruises, we won't spend extra time land-tripping but if we weren't, we'd likely go to Paris as well.

I am getting dizzy just reading everything that everyone is already researching. I did all DCL excursions on my Med cruise in July and I was very happy with them so that is what I will do again, being a Solo traveler, they are the easiest for me. I did download the Rick Steves book to my Ipad and I will probably read it either on the plane in May or on my cruise in August. I am going to wait until DCL posts the excursions for the MED next year before I do any earnest reading on any of the ports.

I applaud those of you that do this, but my Job is very stressful and vacation is for me to decompress so I will let disney do all the planning for me.

DH and I along with our friends are with you. We know we pay more by using DCL for excursions but it sure makes everything easier for us. Only one time in all of crusies did we go on our own and that was in San Francsico which is where we are originally from! Welcome to the group. Sue

And in going to print it out, I realized the dates error and messaged the creator back....

Hello everyone! :wave2:
I really wish this trip was not so far away, I think I'm driving my husband crazy, hopefully he will make it till then :rotfl2:
This will be our first Med cruise ever so we are thrilled. We are even more excited about Greece. We are going to Italy in 2 weeks and wanted to squeeze Greece in, but its too much to squeeze in a week. I was heartbroken, but we decided that 2013 would be the year for Greece and indeed it will be :rotfl:
I can't wait to meet and mingle with you all :thumbsup2
For those who have done the Med cruises, I am curios as to what excursions are offered in Villafranche. If someone can tell me I would really appreciate it. I have an idea and feedback for all the other cities, but I dont have any information on France. TIA for the help. :thumbsup2

I did the cruise in July and let me see if I can remember the ones they had.

They had about three that all were variations including Monaco and Monte Carlo.

They had half day wine tasting in Nice, and a short tour of EZE, this one you could do in the morning or afternoon.

A perfume making lesson in EZE.

Better yet, since my brain isn't functioning I found a link to WDW info with the excurison descriptions. Just remember these are the past ones the ones for next year haven't posted yet and may or may not be different.

Wow! Italy in two weeks - excellent! Italy was amazing. We were there for 12 days and it wasn't enough for Italy. Hope you have a great time!

We did the perfumery in Eze and had a great time. spent the morning and lunch in Villefranche and enjoyed that as well. Read our pre trip report where we actually are doing a trip report for our last Med cruise...We're up to Corsica...Villefranche is next...the link is in MinnieDiva's signature.

I did the wine tasting and to be quite honest I didn't like Villefranche, I may do the monaco and montecarlo tour or I may just stay on the ship. I have time to decide.

Those excursions are from 2007, when the boat stayed tilled midnight at Villefranche

Here are a few from 2011

This is awesome! Thank you.
For those following the economy the European countries have decided to loan Greece some more money. Hopefully this will start the trend in the right direction. Sue

We ended up taking the train into Monaco on our own because we really wanted to see the 100 yr old Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium that was once overseen by Jacques Cousteau and it was not included on a Disney excursion. We were not sad that we did!!! The architecture of the building alone was amazing. The aquarium was not huge, but had a nice selection of small and large tanks - I even saw a few new fish. The museum upstairs is like nothing I had ever seen before. Again, incredible architecture, old specimens, charts and tools for discovering the bounty of the sea and a life-sized whale hanging from the ceiling! In our minds, not to be missed!
