Just checking the Travel Channel line-up and see these shows coming up that might be of interest:

Tonight – 10 p.m. Anthony Bourdain – ROME

Tuesday, Feb 21st, 10 a.m. – Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown – Monaco

Wednesday, Feb 22nd, 10:30 a.m. – Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown – Florence

Wednesday, Feb 29th – Passport to Europe- Mykonos

Thursday, Feb 23rd – Bizarre Foods – Greece

Gary is a big Samantha Brown fan, so I'm sure we'll "walk in her footsteps" on some of our port days!

Not to take away from this thread in any way, but I know there are several of us B2B'ing this one and the next one - thought I'd start a separate thread specifically for B2B'ers - totally in addition to this one and the one for the other cruise we're B2Bing... I can't keep up with who's B2Bing and thought it would nice to have a central place for us.

In case you're interested: B2Bing in the Med.

On February 18th & 19th, Rick Steves is planning to speak a the Travel Expo here in Santa Clara, CA. I bought his book on the Med Cruise Ports. Our family will be going to hear him speak on the Mediterranean Ports.

Thanks for that info! My dad, who's coming with us, lives in San Jose. I'm pretty sure I convinced him to go!! I've already brainwashed him into buying the DVD set and the cruise ports book!

Please let him know that it is at the Santa Clara Convention Center. It's $9 at the door or he can purchase the ticket online with the PROMO code AAATKT to get a $1 off.

Unfortunately, I don't know how much parking is.

Parking is free.

Wish I could go! Have fun for me! I'm scheduled to go to one of the seminars put on by the company on Rome on March 3rd (not done by Rick, tho).

Nathan was telling me today that in Psychology class they've been studying sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation. He said it reminded him of when we went to Barcelona in 2007 - the jet lag was seriously tough. That made me want to ask you all for your "tried and true" tips for minimizing the effects of jet lag.

So, our family just returned from the Adventure Expo in Santa Clara, CA. neat way to figure out what is out there. I will go through all the discounts and recommendations tonight and give you all a quick over view.

I spoke to the tourist offices representing Turkey, Greece, Malta, and those helping out with Rick Steves' talk.

Very informative.
Be back soon with more info. after getting a bite to eat.

First of all, I can tell you what not to do!:rotfl2: Do not fly directly from the west coast of the US into Barcelona on the morning of the cruise. We tried it, it worked, would prefer not to do it again! We agree with many others who are planning to fly into Barcelona or elsewhere a couple of days early - we're thinking Paris. This will help get rid of any jet lag prior to cruising. I'm not sure of any way to 100% prevent jet lag, but there are some homeopathic remedies. A friend of mine uses no-jet-lag and on our long flight we used jet zone. Even after our 24+ hours with no sleep- because of course you can't nap on the first day of your first cruise ever - we made it through dinner and to a show and even watched us leave Barcelona at around 9:30pm. You can find these products at Whole Foods or many other natural or supplement stores or even at Amazon. We will definately do this again with our next long flight to Europe. It also helps to switch to your new time zone as quickly as possible. ie. If you arrive in the morning; stay awake and if you arrive in the evening; go to sleep.

Here's to minimal jet lag for us all!

Hello everyone! I'm so glad to see a thread started for this cruise. It'll help me get my planning fix in - I think I've already driven my husband crazy because I want to start planning now and for him it is a little too far out for any big plans.

I just added our group to the google spreadsheet. Our group is four - DH, DD (4) and my mom. My daughter, husband and I toured Italy in 2009 and are looking forward to seeing some of our favorites again and showing my mom Rome.

:welcome:

I share your planning obsession!!

I am getting dizzy just reading everything that everyone is already researching. I did all DCL excursions on my Med cruise in July and I was very happy with them so that is what I will do again, being a Solo traveler, they are the easiest for me. I did download the Rick Steves book to my Ipad and I will probably read it either on the plane in May or on my cruise in August. I am going to wait until DCL posts the excursions for the MED next year before I do any earnest reading on any of the ports.

I applaud those of you that do this, but my Job is very stressful and vacation is for me to decompress so I will let disney do all the planning for me.

Same here - DCL excursions pretty much all the way, and many months before I start even thinking about the excursions. :cool2:

I use Melatonin - I know it doesn't work well for everyone, but for me it's a safe and effective way to fall asleep "off-schedule". :cool2:

We usually do DCL excursions, but here's why I like to read well in advance - so I can get a pretty fixed idea of what we'd like to do on excursions - that helps us pick which one will hit most closely. For example, when we went to Rome in 2007, we knew we wanted to see the Trevi Fountain, the inside of the Colloseum, and while we wanted to see the Vatican, we had no desire to spend half a day there. So that helped us plowing through the excursion descriptions - eliminating any that were just drive-bys of the Colloseum or spent half a day at the Vatican.

Welcome Pam and family! :goodvibes
I am loving this thread already, you guys are more active than the two threads I am on for June trips!

Very Little Jet lag last time cause we did the transatlantic so we graduallly sailed into the time change LOL.... I will most likely take the advisement of going to Barcelona a few days early...

DCL has more commercials than ever this year (probabaly cause they are in port in NYC) and every time the DCL music plays on the TV, my heart smiles in anticipation!

Have a great week!
