Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

I know-- 8 days is stupid!!! I mean, come on. I can understand that they need the kids to be in school. I get it. But to punish kids who are absent for 8 days (And usually it's b/c of the flu or something!) is ridiculous.

I am already planning my argument---- the risk of spreading the flu and other contagious viruses b/c the kids "HAVE" to be in school or else they'll fail????

I already went thru that once with Drew and the standardized testing when he was in 2nd grade. They told us to send in the kids even if they were sick!!!! So what happens? The little girl next to him during the test puked all over the place and of course 12 hrs later, Drew was throwing up. The mom said she knew her kid was sick but had to send the kid b/c of what the Principal had said!!! Yeah, they didn't like me too much that day.

Wow wow wow!! :scared1: That is crazy!! Is it state wide or just their school? That's so dumb. They have days to make up those standardized tests.

They had better not mess with me, and I am serious as a heart attack when I say it won't be pretty.

Esp if Mark gets in on it.

U-G-L-Y.

But thanks.:lmao::lmao::lmao: I hope the kids will be okay.

If there ever was a reason to move back to PGH- the excused educational days might be it.

Oh and to be near you of course!

Yep -- you better get back here quick!! You can take your kids out of school freely and you can live by ME!!!! :cool1:

Gurl----- Caffeine is one thing. Caffeine while having PMS is another thing all together. That doesn't wear off as easily.:rotfl2:

I could see that Mardi Gras week would be forgiven! Maybe I need to move there instead of back to PGH. At least it's warmer there.:lmao:

Jo, you would be the first person on the face of the Earth who moved to Louisiana FOR the schools! :scared1: :rotfl2:

Or the weather. :scared:

Shelly-- that one instance was that school but the schools in this area are hardcore, to put it mildly. It's dumb. Moving back there would be so easy if it weren't so dang cold. But after this years weather here, I don't know!!:rotfl2:

Teri-- maybe I should homeschool the kids.

:scared1:

Fortunately, my boys went to private school or were homeschooled - we pretty much did what we wanted to do, taking days off and vacations. I would hate to have some school "official" telling me what I could or could not do with my own kid.

Of course, it is always good to have the principal as your best friend. ;)

Sea :cool1:

If I could be in WDW right now, I'd be bouncing along on the Safari in AK!! I can't wait to see the elephants!:lovestruc

I love elephants, too!!! My FAV-O-RITE! :)

Good morning!! :goodvibes

By this time next week we should have already arrived!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 week? HOLY COW!!!

Just a fly by Banana Boogie........

A fly-by banana boogie.... :lmao:

Packing update!

Belle's dresses are on the hangers------lying on my bed NEXT to her duffel!! They're close!!:lmao:

YEAH!! :cool1:

As far as the kids schools.....
:confused3

MC came home freaking out yesterday saying that the High school changed attendance policies this year so that all absences are just absences-- there's no medical excused or unexcused anymore. And you can't miss more than 8 or you may lose the course credit.
Well, with her block schedule......... :scared1:  :headache: She's gonna be close. Her Dad said they can suck it-- if they give us grief we'll pull her and send her to a private school.

I mean really? So if a kid gets the flu and misses a week of class, they're gonna fail them?

Dumb.
She is in all AP classes and that's just stupid with her being a responsible A-B student, and honestly, I'm tired of people telling me what I can and can't do with my child that I carried for 9 months AND birthed and financially support.

:scared1:

:lmao:

Drew's school will probably give me grief- who knows. Belle's school- I went last nite and they said that until the last week of Sept it's gonna be all review stuff. So I think she'll be fine.

Let them put me before a court. I'll just make sure I have PMS that day.;)

Okay, really? That's just crazy. You know, it's not like they're running the streets or just totally skipping out on classes and homework. I can see the necessity of cracking down on those types of absences....but come on. I understand the schools have requirements they have to meet, but there has got to be some leeway and understanding when it comes to FAMILY time! Vacations can be just as educational as being in school. Our city prosecuter has been interviewed saying he's going to start charging parents for their child's absences in school. I can't honestly remember how many. When did it become the responsibility of others to raise our children and know what is best for them.... There are many times I've thought about homeschooling, but DS and I would wear each other out! We are way too alike!!! :lmao: Okay, I'm off my soapbox now.... I'll be there with you in court Jo - cheering you on!!! :thumbsup2

Belle's Dresses are Officially "IN THE BAG"!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so proud of myself. I still have 13 days left!!!:cool1:

Elephants....:lovestruc I want a pet one so I can drive him to the grocery store and park him outside.:goodvibes

The thing that really irks me about all of this stuff with the absences is that we are taking MC to a COLLEGE campus while we are there that she is going to be applying to and needs to tour it! And THAT isn't excused??? I mean c'mon. How much more do they want from me?

And I don't care what anyone says-- my kids actually learn something from being on vacation with us.
If they charged me--- I'd budget it into the vacation fund.:lmao: You know why it's happening that way? B/c schools are PAID for every student, for every day that they are there. It all comes down to the all mighty $$.
I'd be happy for all y'all to come to court with me if I have to go.
Just make sure you bring bail $$.:lmao:

Jo, I am totally with you on taking your kids out of school if that's what you want to do, and I was a teacher before being a SAHM. I refuse to allow anyone to tell me what I can and can't do with my own child! Ain't gonna happen. And I also refuse to travel in the summertime. I despise the summer heat and crowds and I just won't do it. We like to travel in the fall and gosh darn it, that's when we're going to do it! I don't even try to lie about it. I usually tell the teacher on open house night on the first day of school, so she has plenty of time to go ahead and get over it. I've never had a problem with DD's teachers though so I am fortunate. In fact, her school actually allows 5 days per school year for travel! (She's in a private school though.) DD will actually be missing more than 5 when we go this October, but oh well! I don't know if I will still feel this way when she is older and the work is harder to keep up with, but for now, at 7 years old, we are going whenever the heck we want to!

I hate the fact that schools CANNOT think outside the box anymore. Travel is an awesome way to learn things. Schools used to understand that, but now it's all about memorizing textbooks and passing worthless standardized tests! When I was a kid, we went on field trips... several a year actually. The schools around here don't do anything like that anymore. It's all test prep! What a waste! I could make a list a mile long of things that my DD is going to learn on our fall trip this year, and she is going to learn it first hand by actually doing it, seeing it, and tasting it! That's so much better than just looking at a picture in a book.

Sorry to ramble on, but I am very passionate about this subject. I think as a society we are being forced to institutionalize our children's education and that sucks!

Sorry Shelly that you have to hear this again (I posted this on my PTR a few weeks ago).... but I read a quote from Mark Twain that I just love... "I never let school interfere with my education." If only school administrators had so much wisdom!

Elephants....:lovestruc I want a pet one so I can drive him to the grocery store and park him outside.:goodvibes

That would be SO awesome! I tell DH all the time I want a baby elephant! He just rolls his eyes! Our zoo just had a baby born....can't wait to go see her!!!

It's really quite sad that it's come down to money with our schools. And because of this, I think the kids suffer. We have administrators making hundreds of thousand of dollars a year.... so frustrating. :confused3

Love this quote!

OMG Shelly....only 6 days. LESS THAN A WEEK!!! :cool1:

And Jo - only a few more days and you're doing the single digit dance!! :cool1:

Oh Lord...don't even get me going on the school situation!!! It's just plain ridiculous...we have a limited # of days here too- and they must be okayed/excused by the Princ or school board. The last year my older son was there, they told me (when he came back from having Strep Throat with the Scarlet Fever Rash!!!!!) that from now on, I was to send him- even if I 'thought' he could be sick and the nurse would check him later and determine if he had fever or looked sick. Then they make the call and you come back and get them. WHAT THE HECK!!?:scared1: Yeah, get a sick kid outta bed:sick:, drag them to school to sit in class or the nurses office till after 9 so they get state $$ And then turn around with a toddler and a newborn and go pick him up. Whatever. That was just one of the many reasons we started homeschooling the next year. I am just so surprised at how many people down here swallow all this bunk and don't think for themselves. Not many protest the idea of sending a sick kid to school... I totally don't get that!! Can you not tell at 7:30 your kids sick,...you have to wait for the nurse at 9?
Thanks for the repeat of the Rx for plane travel! I did it last year and it helped! I am like Shelly and usually spend the first night in the room in bed early with a migraine!Last year I didn't get one!
Shelly..can not believe you are so close!!!!!!!
Jo..wait to go getting those dresses out!!!

Wow that is so crazy to me!! We are not supposed to send our kids if they are sick!! :scared1: I sure hope the schools never come to that up here. But with all the budget cuts for education, I'm sure were headed that way. :sad2:

I forgot to ask you if the Rx helped you on arrival day last year. So glad to hear that it did. It's never fun to be down & out with a migraine when you get to WDW!!

Good morning everyone. What a crappy day here. Rain, rain, and more rain. We are on our 3rd round of thunderstorms since about 5:00 this morning. I sure hope they are not getting all this down in the city - PGH - after all the rain and flooding they had on Friday. :sad2:

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. IDK about the majority of people who love to send their kids in to school when they are sick.... but in my mind that constitutes child neglect and endangerment. Someone should bring that up to the parole officer when they come knocking. Dumb butts. And I'm sorry, I'm a nurse, I have the diploma and the test scores to prove it- and they could take my word for it that my kid was sick. No need to have another nurse look at them and say "you're sick." How much more dumbness can our country get into??

I'm glad that the Sudafed/Excedrin RX helped both you and Shelly last time. I swear they are life savers for me-- the migraines are just too much when I don't do it that way.
