Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Hi ladies :goodvibes

I heard about all of the weather concerns in FL right now and just wanted to stop by to wish you some pixie dust for safe travels and that it missed you all together!! :wizard:

We had crazy weather warnings when we were there last year and it was only really bad for one day. It was the night we did MNSSHP, we were on the fence as to whether we should cancel and try for another night, but we waited out the storm and it was awesome afterward! It kept everyone out of the parks and the lines were practically non existant.

So, hopefully it looks worse than it is and it will clear out the crowds for you if it does rain.

Safe travels!!!

Good Morning!!
The first hurricane of the year. . . Well isn't that my luck? Good grief. We don't need anymore unwelcome travelers with us!!!

I know. I was expecting hot and humid. I was prepared for that. And rain and thunderstorms. But NOT tropical storms & hurricanes!!

Yes, they really got onto him for saying his wife would cry b/c it has happened to them in the past and it ruined their vacation. It would ruin mine as well and yes, I'd cry!!
Hot and Humid is one thing. Hot Humid and Hurricane is totes Different!!!

Well I just read all those threads....Seems it's a bit too early to be concerned. But I am anyway!! :scared1: And yes - I will be crying too. Did people really get on that guy for saying that??? :sad2:

At this point I'm really worried about flight delays and cancellations. If we at least make it there safely and then it comes and we only lose a half day or so it will be okay I suppose. But as of now it looks like it could hit when we are scheduled to arrive.
If it could just hurry itself up and be finished with Orlando by the time you get there- it would be so nice!!
As long as it stays Cat 1, I think you'll be fine. They may delay you an hour in PGH, but the might not.

Mouse over a storm to see updated info

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

I've been using that too!
I had to pick myself up off the floor!!!! Jo ACTUALLY has clothing IN a bag????? :faint:

Here's hoping Irene stays out to sea! pixiedust: If not, I hope she at least stays as a mild tropical storm. We were hit by Tropical Storm Barry on our honeymoon in August 2001 and we made the best of it. We headed out with our ponchos and bought some overpriced but adorable Mickey umbrellas and made the best of it. At least the lines were short! ;)

Jo- 8 days is ridiculous but it could be worse...our school district allows only 5 days per quarter or your child fails that quarter. Absolute nonsense!!!!When DS was in K he missed 6 days for pneumonia and we had to have a meeting with the principal. I was livid and it was not a pleasant meeting. There was not a nice bone in my body that day. DH said if we go on vacation and our school district threatens to fail a straight A student we'll pull him and homeschool him. It's ridiculous and you're right- it all boils down to the almighty dollar.

YEP! Clothes are IN the bag! My box is ALMOST ready to ship!!:cool1:
I can't believe your school district is that bad. It's stupid all the rules they put on parents these days.
Why am I not surprised that you broke 100 pages with this thing?

Shelly - I have been counting the days until your trip (you go on my B-day so it's easy to remember :) )

Sorry about your DH's hernia (yes I'm a bit behind), I hope he's okay. My DH has one that bothers him "sometimes" and has not had surgery - yet.

repacking at this late date, huh? That must have been really hard for you!!!

And JO - WOW! Things are getting packed - ALREADY???? Shelly must be rubbing off on you.

Weather - well just hang in there - it's going to change. The forecast of rain will probably be there no matter what those dang storms do. There's always a chance of rain in FL! I do hope for your sake, that there isn't a big washout and you can at least arrive safely.

Don't EVEN get me started on the school absence garbage. We are told officially we can have 5 days unexcused. We pretty much always take them. The first time both girls were in school and we pulled them to go to WDW, I wrote the "official" letter telling them how educational it was going to be, and the teachers just said, oh, I wish I could come too. Have fun. The principal told me 5 days unexcused. (That was all we were missing). After that, I just tell them when we're going and don't worry about it.

PMS and angry going to court? Sounds like most of the women who come to court where I work!!

If I missed anything, Sorry - I just can't keep up with you when I have such a crazy work week!!! I'm sure it was all very funny, helpful and informative though!
Hope this week is better for you Sheree!
I did the official letter once for MC's school. It didn't go over too well. :rolleyes1
I'm tired of trying to come up with a way to spin it. It is what it is. they're my kids, I'm doing what the heck I want to with them.

Shelly try not to worry too much about the hurricane. Living in NC, I have seen more than my fair share of them and I can tell you that most of them turn out to be less impressive than what the weather channel tells you. In fact, I can only remember 2 hurricanes out of MANY that hit here that were really awful. Most of them dump some rain, have a little wind and move on out. I would think it would mess up one day of your trip at the most. Now the airport situation I'm not too sure about.

Speaking of weather.... we have had the worst storms today! For the third time this year, DD and I have had to get into the bathtub because things got so bad that I was afraid we were having a tornado. 3 times in six months!!! What the heck is going on this year!?! I have NEVER had to crawl into the tub like that until this year. Thankfully we were fine and only had minor wind damage in our yard. It just felt like the roof was going to come off and hail was going to break the windows! I'm so ready for this summer to be over!
Be safe! Growing up in Charleston SC I am used to hurricanes- rain, storms. Tornadoes are another matter all together!!! They scare the tinkle out of me!!
That's really ridiculous. I am getting worried about what will happen in a few years when I have kids in school. If the school gives me a hard time about pulling my kids for any reason, I'll probably home school. If my child is struggling, then I wouldn't pull them anyways, but I really think it should be my decision, and they should be able to do make up work.
UGH. Don't think about having to pull your child out yet. It's awfully stressful.
Shelly,you only have
4 Days left!!!!!!
How awesome is that?!!!!
And I agree with RTT...one day should be the only one that's bad..even when we had hurricane Rita..it was only that night and the next day that was bad weather.(it came on shore in the middle of the night here)...now,..ours was massive and we lost power...so we were not here for 2 weeks waiting to get Power restored..but you are not gonna have to deal with any of that with it being a Cat 1,...and with being in Disney. They are not gonna be without power..so you are good!

Jo...

10 DAYS!!!!

we are waiting for your Top 10!!!!! And have you gotten any relief up there from the heat or drought yet? We are stiiiiilll waiting down here--need a major rain and some relief in the heat! It was 85 degrees Fri after 11 o'clock at night! I mean really, do we live in the tropical jungle or what? At least if we did, we could count on a daily rain!
It has been cooler here! Thank goodness. I hope you guys catch a break soon. First all the snow----- What the heck was up with that? Then the storms and now the heat. It's strange.
Good Morning Jo, Shelly and Everyone Else-

Shelly -

It is only natural to worry about these darn storms especially when they might hit on a day your due to fly in or out. We get our fair share of storms here too but most times they do fizzle out before they get this far north.

Hi RF!
I have read that after a storm blows thru that the parks are empty. So I'm hoping that if we have to endure one, at least we'll get rewarded.

Your trip is coming up soon as well! Are you doing anything special during it?

Thanks Shawna!!:goodvibes I can't wait to get there! I'm so excited!:cool1:

Well, we have friends that are DVC members, so we'll be going with them this year. I'm excited because we've only ever gone with just the 2 of us so it will be nice to go with friends. And we'll be going to Saratoga Springs, which is our 1st stay at a Deluxe. :goodvibes

It's only going to be a 4 day trip, which is the shortest we've ever done and it's weird for me because we are making NO PLANS! (The TGMer in me is freaking out about that a little considering it's over Columbus Day weekend and it's only the 2nd weekend of the F&WF:scared1:) But since we'll be there with other people, we're just going to wing it. I definitely think it will be a totally different trip that we've ever done before. The guys are thinking about going to play golf and I really want a spa day, so I think we'll spend a LOT of time at Epcot for the F&WF, but then a lot of time at the resort just relaxing and swimming. I'm sure we'll go to the parks, but it's probably not going to be the focus this time.

Oh, and we only have 1 ADR! I booked a dinner at O'hana, so we can say thanks to our friends for using their DVC points for us to come down with them. Considering we just did the cruise and we booked another one for next May, there's NO WAY we would have been able to go down to WDW this year if we didn't stay with them. :thumbsup2

How nice of your friends to offer to let you guys stay with them! That's awesome! I will say I am a little terrified for you.... no plans, no ADR's! The TGMer in me is cringing.
:lmao:
How long will you be there?
I have heard wonderful things about the spa at SSR.:wizard:

Good Morning!!

I've been using that too!

Hi Sheila!!!!!:goodvibes How's your DH doing Post Op??

There is a lot of good info on that site if you are weather illerate like me

DH is doing great so great in fact he is wearing his glasses minus the lens on the side that he had the inplant done on and went for his 2nd followup visit last Thursday a week later and got the :thumbsup2
Now he is waiting for them to call about scheduleing the op for the other eye, he is hopeing they can do it before our trip, I keep thinking I should ask him if he wants to change our trip dates so he could go Disney worry free and be able to see, but I haven't been able to bring it up yet, only have a few more days, our 45 day mark is Sept 4th. I did mention changeing to November when FD came out but he said no cause of the flight change fees, so I doubt he would want to change anyhow.

Love your update all your pics were great, I love when you first walk out into the Florida sun, even when it is blazeing hot :goodvibes

Hello PTR friends

I've been out running around this morning. Did something a bit drastic. Well, drastic for me. I'll see who can guess it first.....I didn't even tell Jo yet!! She is probably going to kill me!!! But it doesn't have anything to do with our trips.

Congrats on 10 DAYS Jo!! :woohoo: Great Top Ten!! :cool1: Love all the pretty pics! :goodvibes It is going to be so awesome!!

And you are so lucky you are not going down until after Irene! I read that it might head east and up towards Charleston. I wish it would just go AWAY!! I am still very worried about our flight Friday morning. :scared:

4 DAYS!!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana:

I cannot believe you two wonderful ladies are so very close! I'll cross my fingers that any and all storms do not cross your paths. :)

I live in central Florida. I am trying not to get worked up, because the past has shown that things really can change at the last minute. So there's no point in worrying until the time is closer. I made it through the eye of all 4 hurricanes of 2004, so you'd think I'd be use to it. The news media keeps hyping it up, so I'm trying not to listen to it, because I lost sleep on Friday night worrying about this all.

I started getting clothing ready to pack this afternoon and have been watching movies on tv to stop thinking about it. Pre-ordered the photopass. And removed a Mickey from our countdown calendar. 5 days to go!!

I am trying not to freak out at this point. Tomorrow may be the day I flip though!! :scared1::laughing: I can deal with the rain. Can't do anything to change it. We will survive and we will be in WDW. :goodvibes It's our flight down that has me very concerned.
Yep!! We do need the rain!! I would try not to get too upset about it yet... you still have 5 days to see if it shifts or downgrades....remember the year you went and it was soooo windy? Was that in Nov? I couln't remember....maybe you will just get good wind to blow out the humid weather!!;) Wouldn't that be awesome!!!

Yep, there was a tropical storm that missed WDW in Nov 2009 and we got a ton of wind from it on our trip. Some cool breezes would be quite welcome this time I'm sure. :goodvibes
I had to pick myself up off the floor!!!! Jo ACTUALLY has clothing IN a bag????? :faint:

Here's hoping Irene stays out to sea! pixiedust: If not, I hope she at least stays as a mild tropical storm. It's ridiculous and you're right- it all boils down to the almighty dollar.

I think I am going to pick up a few more rain ponchos and umbrellas before we go.

That is so crazy!! How do they threaten to fail a student for being sick? :sad2:

I hope you are right and Irene is way less impressive than they are making it out to be!! :wizard:

Be safe! We had some nasty storms here over the weekend but nothing that we had to take cover from thankfully.

That's really ridiculous. I am getting worried about what will happen in a few years when I have kids in school. If the school gives me a hard time about pulling my kids for any reason, I'll probably home school. Shelly - 4 days!! WHOOHOO!!! You're forecast is looking a bit better. I think they put all that "rain" in the latter part of the forecast because they really don't have any concrete forecast to put in there! Here's hoping Irene fizzles out and you don't get a lot of wind/rain....bring a few extra ponchos and you're good to go!

And Jo - 10 days! YEAH! Loved that countdown.

Let's see...what drastic thing have you done? Cut your hair!?!?!

Sheree! :) Where have you been girl? I hope your DH's hernia does not get any worse and he can avoid surgery. DH's comes and goes. Unfortunately comes more than goes. He usually has about one good day a week, the rest are pretty rough.

Yes, hopefully the whole trip won't be a washout. I can deal with some rain. I'm just hoping to get there safely and on time at this point!
