3Aumillers said:Now that I think I have our dining all ironed out (hopefully) my next task is to figure out if we should go with a rental car or use Disney transportation. El Cheapo me says we should go with Disney's transportation ... but the Mom of an almost 4 year old side of me says having our own car would be a better option. What are the rest of you doing for transportation?????
I can equally argue for both. I've rented on lots of trips and after the first 2 times realized that I could rent from a company right at the airport. I would use mousesavers to find good codes and keep checking! I would check rates and when (and I often did) I found a cheaper rate I would book that and just cancel the old one. You may want to read up on National's Emerald Ilse service-I haven't used it since 2002 and I think they made changes. But it was great you just walk right out to the cars and pick one out from a special area and when you drive out you give your Credit card and verify your info at the booth-very quick. I couldn't use it in Jan 2004 because with 6 of us I needed a minivan which isn't always on the "Ilse". My DH found renting a car very stressful and we had to bring 3 carseats with us because we didn't want to trust the car rental seats. Driving to the parks wasn't much easier than using Disney transportation as you still need to use the parking lot tram though if you're there early you may be close enough to walk to entrance. And isn't a good option at MK since you park at TTC and then need to take monorail or ferry to MK-not fun getting back to your car at park closing.
Last trip we got a limo instead-cheaper than renting a minivan for the week and they provided carseats so we only had the 1 for the baby to use on the plane. They did a grocery stop which I really liked as I didn't have to navigate my way (um..DH's way) in the rental car-not that it is that hard to find. I wouldn't do a limo again-the kids didn't seem to get that big a kick out of it so I would just do a van from the limo company which is cheaper-we can't fit into a town car. I think I will still do the van rather than ME because I still want the grocery stop and I don't want to have to wait around for ME, my luggage or have a long a lead time when heading back to the airport.
I figure if something "happens" and I need to go to a drug store or something I can just take a cab. But I must admit when I go without DH I find it reassuring to have the car just in case.
