I've been away a few days ... and I see you've gotten a 28-135 IS! Woo HOOO... indeed! I am tickled PINK with mine!

I bought my Hoya SHMC UV filter for $32 on ebay from a supplier from China. It arrifved 5 days after I paid - HALF WAY AROUND THE WORLD! Saved near $50 versus B&H for the same 72mm filter. Plus I bought the hood from Canoga Camera locally for about $27 + tax. It's beautiful and handles very nicely - with aq decent carry around weight. Superb images too - of course. BUT I do notice less motion dampening then the 70-300... not sure if that is just because of the magnification difference - or not. Maybe it's just my imagination?

I bet you will like IS. I was skeptical (what a surprise) but it really works.

The 70-300IS has Canon's third generation IS system while the 28-135IS has the second gen IS system. Besides adding a panning mode (Mode 2) the new system is worth up to three stops of anti-shake. The second gen system will get you about two stops of shake correction.

What wide angle lenses have the third generation IS system? Sometimes it's hard to tell what versions lens have when I'm browsing around. At some point I was thinking of getting a wide angle with IS but I'm not sure which yet.

Caniswolfie, I think only the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS it as far as a wide angle goes. Not cheap.
