Who will join us Late December - January, Trip Reports

We left late and what was supposed to be 7 hours (plus 2 in Atlanta) to Valdosta ended up being 11.5 (inc. Atlanta) to tifton. We had a solid 3 hours south of Atlanta of heavy rain that kept us at around 40mph. Hoping to be setting up by 3 tomorrow.

AMCC, that's a bummer about the weather. Sounds like it was a rough drive but you got some place safely and that's what counts. Where did you over night?

Kris, glad you made it in.

I saw Eagles Roost as I drove down I75 today. It looks pretty nice - spanish moss hanging from lots of trees, looks close to the hwy exit, and there were lots of folks there. What does it run per night this time of year?

We drove in off/on mist to Atlanta then down I75. The rain on radar looked worse than what it was - not bad at all and the heaviest rain we got wasn't that heavy and didn't last long. Traffic was light until we got below Lake City and then it was solid. Got into Lake Louisa State Park just after the sun had set. I'm a supporter of state parks and try to use them wherever possible and Florida's system is generally pretty good. Travelling with DS22, DD18, and DW, I know to get a site near a comfort station for my ladies. This picture is just after we backed in while we had some remaining light.

If my stargazer advisor (my father) is correct, that is Mars up to the left of the crescent moon in the twilight:

A few mosquitos are out tonight but not bad at all. Lows tonight will be in the mid 60s and highs were mid 80s driving in today. The rain stopped around Valdosta and the clouds disappeared at the Florida state line (advertising pays I guess).

Check-in tomorrow and breakfast at Trails End. I'm ready!

Let me know how you like Lake Louisa, we have reservations there for 1/27-1/29. Thanks and enjoy.

My sister and her family will be there this week, so jealous. Yes, I know I just got home, but since I was sick most of the week, I think I deserve a do over.:p

View attachment 212991 Oh boy we are in over flow for the over flow. About to turn ourselves around so we are pointing out now. We did get 700 loop but people are still there. Hopefully get the text soon
Wow! I guess the holiday folks haven't quite cleared out. Hopefully the wait isn't too long.

And were you singing the Hokey Pokey? :duck:

j

Jim, funny we sing the hokey pokey a lot. Usually when we come home Mallory is never in the spot we left and she has turned herself around.:rolleyes1

We got here at 630am and had to wait for our site. #116 in loop 100 is our home. It's the site between the 2 cabins and the walkway to the Settlement Trading Post. Frank and Denise were just here visiting when they got their text assignment. I'll post setup pictures here in the next post.

Bama Ed

PS - hot and in the 80s today.

Okay.

Checked in at 630am in the dark. Had to wait as expected for my site but parked in the overflow (not slammed full) and decided to walk down to Trails End.

The exterior of the lobby was done up in lighted garland.

There was overflow parking in the field where the hitch/un-hitch loops were backing up to the cabin loops. Here is a picture in the dark:

Trails End opened at 730am. The Christmas tree is still up on the porch.

The weekend brunch was running today even if it was Monday. Good ol' Ken was our server - always so nice. They had some lunch food as well as breakfast food. The smoked salmon was good and the bread pudding with hot praline sauce hit the spot (I admit I scraped extra walnuts off the top of the serving pot and into my bowl). Shrimp for breakfast says I? Yes! with sausage please. It all goes great with a diet Coke and Chocolate Milk.

Things are really pretty here. The azaleas are out.

After breakfast we decided to ride the boat to the MK while waiting for our assignment text. Folks were fishing off the pier.

Aw man just missed the big boat. Had to wait for another.

While we were on the boat our assignment text came for #116. So we rode to the MK:

then we stayed on it and rode back.

More to come.

So the tree is still up outside the TE porch.

And Pioneer Hall is looking festive.

So here was our site before I backed into it. A cabin is to the left looking at it and the walkway to the Settlement Trading Post is to the right.

Mostly all set up now.

Kids are in the canvas tent on cots.

There is the Trails End porch out the back of our site. You can hear the golf carts going by as well as the music from the TE porch area. Plus boat whistles. It's a short walk to refill the old mug with coffee if I were a coffee drinker.

Gonna head to Target on 192 this afternoon to check out their Disney/Christmas stuff.

Bama Ed

Glad to hear you guys are getting in safe.

Ed, uh, just how do you have all that for breakfast and throw in a diet coke? Go for the real stuff man!

Thanks friendofeeyor. We are just about setup, still need to do the lights. We are in 730. It's a little narrow and holds some water so waiting for it to dry out to do the lights. However that could be an issue when it rains and with dogs. Going to get the rav from over flow now. See everyone soon

The 700 loop now has new recycling bins similar to the locking trash cans to keep raccoons out. The only issue is they have them labeled "glass, paper, and aluminum" no plastic, what is going on? Throw plastic in the trash?

Ed,

Great pics and you are making me really homesick with the 100 loop pics. We have had the site directly across the road from you and loved it. Sadly, I think the 100 loop days are over. Not sure 60+ ft of trailer and truck will navigate very well.

Nice to see the Christmas decorations are still up at TE. I've never been down over Christmas and these pics are great.

I saw that too, Kris. The old recycling receptacles are gone and the half-buried trash cans are covered over. I wondered the same thing about plastic.

Glad to hear you guys are getting in safe.

Believe it or not, tiggerdad, I like the taste of diet Coke best. But I did have whole chocolate milk (no 2% stuff).

Glad everyone made it safely. Loving all the pictures! Especially dog pictures and Christmas decorations!
The campground DH and I work in spring/summer up north has comingled recycle bins. Everything goes in one dumpster...paper, plastic, aluminum, glass.
