Just as long as it isn't Hilary

Amen. That happens and I move to Canada. Personally I like Obama, even though I'm a registered Republican.

Obama is an interesting option. The Clinton name is powerful though. Either one would be better than what we have now.

I'm guessing both... HC for Pres/BO for VP.

No poll choice for another stupid white man? That's probably who will win...

Condoleeza... uh NOT!!!!! And not because she's a puppet. She has ZERO appeal and believe me, she doesn't have universal support.

Obama would have a chance if his name was Steve Williams. The name game is a big one with me. It's why I named my child MICHAEL.

I don't think it'll happen soon but hope it happens during my son's life. Too much hate and too little unity in this generation.

Yes, but that wasn't what I meant in the question... I'm looking to find out who will bust that barrier first..... I figure it will be a white woman or a black man.

Now honestly, when one is National Security Advisor and then becomes Secretary of State for the administration, do you REALLY expect her to put forth her own personal views? She is doing her job.

Obviously I know that. Still, I think people see her as a puppet. But really, she seems to have lost her own ability to do anythng more than spit out his views. BTW, I know you are hard core republican, and supprt GW..... I just want to make sure you know I am not a GW hater, nor really a supporter. I think I am fairly unbiased in this instance.

I really don't know, and to an extent, don't care as long as it's for all the right reasons.

I would hate to see someone get elected simply because they're black, or a woman, or good-looking, or the poster boy or girl for a particular cause. Unfortunately, those seem to be the criteria all too often.

I haven't settled on any specific candidates yet. Of those I have some interest in, there is some variety in gender and ethnic background. I think it's more important than ever for us all to really scrutinize the candidates as well as their support teams. Maybe it's time to find some middle ground between the far right Republicans and the far left Democrats.

Let me start by saying that I am a registered Republican.....

Having said that - I am liking Obama's energy and enthusiasm. I like that he's a little green - that means to me - that he still has HIS opinions and hasn't been molded into what his party believes he should be (this goes for ANY party my own as well- I find that they all seems to becone "of one mind" after awhile)

I need to investigate him a bit more - really look into where he stands and of course compare him to the Repub front runners - but I could easily see myself voting for him even if we don't have the same thoughts and stances on some things. I personally am willing to comprimise a few of the things I believe in for a chance at forging forward with a "minority" President and again - that "youth" is really attracting me. You can tell he's just very excited to be who he is - it's addicting :)

As for Hillary - I really don't want to see her at all - not as the front runner or as the VP and to be quite honest if Obama and Hillary came as a package I can see the Repubs getting a very easy win over them. As much as I personally as a "white" woman would like to see a Minority AND a Woman as a package deal - I still believe that the vast majority of the country would completely balk at that for very narrow minded reasons. I really think the only way we can move forward is to take small steps :)

Everyone's responses are so interesting. I, too, think Sen. Obama has a better chance than Sen. Clinton of securing the democratic nomination. However, I am surprised that a few republicans seem to like him, as well. He definitely has the energy and charisma, he's a great public speaker. He's not really any more moderate than Sen. Clinton, though. Is it just that she's a Clinton?

I am sure that is why. They disliked her husband and so they dislike her. Of course, I feel the same way about everyone in the Bush administration. There is no way I would vote any of them into any office, anywhere. :)

Note - If anyone out there has trouble with Senator Clinton's first name, just spell it S-e-n-a-t-o-r C-l-i-n-t-o-n. Much easier that way. And if you are posting to say it would be horrible if she were elected president, I'd love to hear what would be so bad about her, other than she is a powerful woman who dares speak her mind.

Ummm...that she is a Liberal? No thank you.

You don't like the way she votes, don't vote for her. That I understand.

It's the folks who *hate* Clinton - the folks who find her significantly worse than any other mainstream Democrat - the ones who would move to Candana - those are the one's I'm curious about.

If you find Senator Clinton worse than other mainstream Democrats, why?

Sorry folks, I would be the first to vote for Hillary. :cool1:

WHY???? I'm from Arkansas and i can tell you first hand that she cares about NOTHING except power for power's sake. She doesn't give a rats patooty for the "little" person like so many believe. Why on Earth else would she move to NY to run for Senator instead of doing that back in her home state of Arkansas? Because a Senator from NY is much more influential than one from a little back woods state like Ark (she thinks) also she probably thought she had a better chance of winning there. She just scares me for that reason. I'm afraid of anyone that goes into politics merely for power and prestige. That's what she is allllllll about. Why else would she have stuck by Bill all these years (cause they really love each other???????) PAAAAA-LEEEEESSSSS. She is fascinated by power and Bill was her ticket to it.

Yea and show me ANY politician who is NOT interested in power. Give me a break. If someone was only interested in helping their fellow man and had no interest in power and influence for themselves, they would join a charity, they would NOT become a politician. Politicians are a special breed.

Republican here - I am also interested in Obama. I am not a fan of Hilary and don't see myself voting for her. However, I would like to learn more about Obama than what I have seen from his appearances on Oprah.

Put me on the Obama wagon.....

As some one else posted he's still "green". That's one of the most appealing things about him. As a Democrat I can't remember anyone as of late who has garnered so much interest from both parties as Obama has. He fits well with all types of persons, black, white, Republican, Democrat etc.

As for Ms. Clinton.....being a New Yorker I am not so easily impressed by her. She does her job and nothing more....no extended effort....no goingin beyond the lines. Just what she needs to do to get by. JMO.

Obama in 08.

I do not understand why people HATE Hillary so much. I think she is intelligent and capable. She would make a much better president than the monkey we currently have in the white house. I like Obama too. I would be very happy if the choice for president was between these two.

She has been a very close advisor to President Bush, even prior to the election. She doesn't just "spit out" his views, but I have no doubt, that she is instrumental in helping to formulate them as part of the team.

Why? I am not saying that someday he may make a good candidate, but what has he done besides serve 2 years in Congress, give a good speech and write a book? Being "green" also translates into a lack of experience. Governors have an easier time getting their party's nomination than those in Congress.

I don't trust Hilary. It has nothing to do with her politics. I think her past actions as an attorney jade my opinions, but I just don't feel she is an honest person. I am a Democrat.

I would love to see a woman president, but I would not love it to be Senator Clinton. I don't hate her, because I do not know her personally, but I do not trust her. I think she will go with any decision that will allow her to keep her power, much like any career politician. She seems to have done some good work as a Senator for NY, despite the rather cheesy way she got in. There was talk in NJ around the last Governor's race about having Rudy Guiliani "pull a Hillary" and move to NJ to run against Senator Corzine. I can just imagine the outrage if he'd done it.
As a conservative (not a Republican) I have to admit that I like what I've heard from Senator Obama. Despite his inexperience in politics, or maybe because of it, he seems to have good ideas and a willingness to work together with people. I do have concerns that he is a little too indecisive, which can be as bad as deciding too quickly. Seeing both sides of an issue is wonderful, but it can't paralyze you.
