I vote for "First Gentleman".
Look, I'm a huuuuge fan of Bill Clinton. But there is no way in heck anyone is going to refer to him as the First Gentleman.

Just to be clear - you are arguing that you know the Clinton's better than anyone because you watched them closely - when you were 4. You must have been one astute pre-K kid!

Funny how the voting age folks in Arkansas didn't feel the same way. The elected him governor, what, 6 times? They voted for him 53%-35% for President in '92 (53% being the highest percentage any candidate got in any state that year).

They must not have the insight you and your friends had from the nursery.

Same ole sarcastic digs, that's great. Pretty typical debate style with those of your ilk I've noticed, (when they disagree, just call 'em names, yeah that's the ticket) I was a teenager for most of the 80s for the record. And I didn't mean that I know more about them than EVERYONE, just peeps like you who think they hung the moon 'cause they profess to be liberal (I guess that's what it is, otherwise I have NO idea) If you could point to several things they did for you or your causes that would be one thing, but you can't cause it doesn't exist. Unless you are an attorney and support all the $$$$ they spent on attorney's fees. Or unless you have a friend that he pardoned in those oh so "important" last days of his presidency. What? Was your buddy Mark Rich, that Clinton pardoned for $$$$$ (Library contributions to be specific.)

And as for Uncle Remus, i was right to imply that you Clinton lovers can't name a SINGLE flappen thing they did WITHOUT googling it and diggin up some bill that he passed, like the designate 2000 acres in Utah for park land or something. Or the largest tax increase ever passed in history that he did in 93. But other than something like that you got butckuss.

Can you even articulate to me WHY you love them soooo much, or is just because they are dems and so are you? I would really really luvvvvv to hear it.

OK. I can see why.

You suggest something then, Remember it has to apply to all presidential husbands in the future, not just Bill.

Hmmm...okay, I'll take the bait. 3 things:

  • doubling the Earned Income Tax Credit for the poor
  • Family and Medical Leave Act
  • strong fiscal and monetary policy that allowed for a budget surplus and lower interest rates, as well as low unemployment
  • portability of medical insurance to be able to go from job to job without being penalized for pre-existing conditions

So, okay, that's 4. But no googling here.

Can we pass a law requiring this to be tattooed on the forehead of everyone elected to Congress?

I agree with you on that. If you feel that way I have a hard time understanding how you could be a huge supporter of the Clintons, the dems never saw a spending bill or new govt program that they didn't like, unless it was something for the Pentagon or CIA. (I'm not saying the rep are much better)

Because you are SUCH a friendly and pleasant debater. BTW, since when is lumping people into a pile and calling them names is any better than what you claim people are doing to you?

As for what did Clinton do for us? I would say his strongest legacy was he left us with a budget SURPLUS! Bush has run us into the ground, put us so far into debt that our children's children will still be paying for it and killed countless numbers of people over "faulty intelligence", not to mention ruining the good world relations that we had under Clinton. Bush is such a train-wreck that it will probably take a few more Presidents before we dig ourselves out from under the catastrophies he has created. But it is ok, because God told him to and Laura and his dog support him! :thumbsup2

:rotfl: Well, I don't know about that, aztegods. Remember Florida in the 2000 election? (See, I can be a democrat that you like: self-depracating and all...)

My point about the Clintons is not that I think Sen. Clinton should be president. She'd probably be a good president, but I think the democrats will lose if she is on the ticket in the general election. She is so polarizing, with people either loving her or hating her. Very little in between. She also lacks charisma. I read or heard somewhere...not sure I remember where...but there was an article or news piece a few years back that said that the more charismatic candidate has always won the presidency since way back when Nixon ran in 1968. Sen. Obama certainly has the charisma and the smarts.

I guess I can understand your dislike of the Clintons since you had them in Arkansas. Kind of like the way I feel about the Bushes, with Jeb as our governor and George as our president.

I have a hard time understanding how you could be a huge supporter of the Clintons,
Let's see. Clinton worked tirelessly over his 8-years to being down the Federal deficits - often taking huge political flack for doing so. He signed several laws requiring Congress to find the funds to pay for any new programs, and saw the massive Reagan/Bush deficits disappear and actually become surpluses. Was her perfect? No. But he did more as President to bring fiscal responsibility to the federal government than any president in memory.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Clinton in part because I'm a big fan of fiscal responsibility.

PS - Sorry about the age thing. You are 34+??? Could have sworn you were much younger. Still, it's an impressive incite you had as a 13-year old.

Well I'm not going to defend Bush, I do think they have done a good job on the war on terror, but that's about it. Other than that, I think he's been a very mediocre (me too big govt rep) His answer to everything has been a new govt. program, but that was also the case with the Clintons, especially their huge socialized medicine proposal that would have wrecked the economy.

I don't really credit Bill for the surplus. That was when a real conservative congress was in and they are the ones that got the budget under control. However as you say, Bush and this new crop of spend spend spend rep are turning the clock back on that.

And I wouldn't worry what the Europeans think of us via Bush. They are a bunch of un-grateful Euro-trash that wouldn't even exist as they do today without the good ole USA saving them from Nazism and Communism. If I were in charge I would totally pull out of Europe and leave Europe to the Europeans.

Sorry gotta laugh at that. The Clinton's original agenda was big time socialist expand government approach, before 94 when Newt Ging real conservative crowd took over. 2 good examples, huge tax and spending bill the "stimulus" package of 93 which was a huge pork bill laden with all kinds of spending projects for any and every congressmen coupled with the largest tax increase in history to that point. Then of course there was hillary care which would have put a 3rd world style socialized health care system in place destroying the best health care system in the world.

It was not until the rep got in in 94 and a threat to "shut down" the govt did Clinton go dragging and screaming to get spending in order. Giving him the credit for that is no different than giving Degault credit for beating the Germans in WWII in France in 1944-45. Yeah Degault was technically part of the war against the Germans but the USA and the Soviets in the East did the real work. (Sorry for the analogy.)

I agree that Bush II and this new crop of rep are turning the clock back on the spending and becoming as reckless spenders as ever since 01. That's why I'm no huge Bush fan.

As allies I take offence at this sort of comment, it is people with views and attitudes like yours that will alienate Americans from the rest of the World.
Americans are wonderful people, don't give the perception that you are A***e H***s

Maybe that 34 wasn't age but IQ.
Second thoughts, that would work for the 13 as well.

I don't know much about Obama, but I do like that both sides are interested. I have no idea where he stands on any issue, but I love reading that there may be someone out there who is going to run that just might close the political divide a little. I'm certainly all for that!!

Don't let people like that make you feel all Americans are of that mindset. I am an American and I take just as much offense to these sentiments as non-Americans do. I find it sad that there is so much xenophobia and nationalism here. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard people say that no non-american life is as valuable as an American one. I cringe every time I hear someone spew that idiotic rhetoric.

I just hope in 10 more years this question will become obsolete.

I concur with your comments it is, unfortunate though that it seems that it is the minority with extremist views who seem to win the day though, and that applies to every nation

Sorry I didn't mean you UKers, you guys have always been a friend to the USA and have never turned your back on us. I also don't really mean Euros ordinary peeps, its their governments.

And I never said that one life isn't as good as "an american one" not sure where that tripe came from. But to deny that France and Germany turned their back on the USA is to deny the facts.

Point being the story about the French officials taking cash from Saddam to take his side over the USAs. And I'm not going to waste time to google that.

And sorry again, I know I should not have lumped France and Germany in with other good, grateful, supportive Euros like Spain, Poland, UK and many others, I was referring solely to France and Germany, mainly France. I know Europe is much bigger than just France, they give the rest a bad name in my opinion.
